  1. How foolish, everybody knows you can only take out 20.000 baht at 1 time and Thai banks are charging 150 baht per transaction. They better had done the job somewhere were you can take out more.

Sorry mate, I took out 40,000 in two transactions one after the other. Kasikorn charge 15 baht, not 150.

No Thai will even look twice if you use your card twice in a row and that soon adds up.

There are limits stated by your bank. 20.000 bath for each withdrawel, usually 50.000 a day for thai ATM cards. Can be changed by yourself to 200.000 if wanted.

The 15 bath you talk about must be from a thai ATM card, any foreign card used in Thailand, has a 150 bath fee. I have also seen a 180 bath fee in fact.

It is only AEON bank (japanese) that does not have a foreign fee, they have no fee since they are not part of the thai banks. But you of course have to pay the fee from your own bank back home.

Ok... I see a lot of confusion here.

Firstly the card issuer sets a daily limit. That cannot be exceeded in any 24 hour period.

Second the ATM has a limit only in how much you can withdraw in one transaction. 20K or 25K depending on the bank.

In this case the daily limits are set by the overseas bank who issued the card, and likely not higher then 25K per day, in most cases a lot less.

So the fraudster will probably only get one withdrawal per day per card using a clone of a overseas card here in Thailand, if the limit is higher than 25K then he must make more than one transaction per day per card.. not difficult.

The reason they choose Thailand is because the ATM machines here use old magnetic stripe technology, in most western countries the card will not work unless a chip is present, but they retain a magnetic stripe so they are backwards compatible with old technology that is used here.

Some banks you can withdraw 30k/transaction. As being said before each bank have a default limit which can be easily changed, but I do think overseas banks would have a higher limit than 25k.

  2. The Thai staff at the restaurants he is known at shouldn't serve him ...

That's what I was thinking too. But as long as he find someone who pay for him and the restaurant get their money I guess nobody cares.
Yeah but someday he will fail to find a sucker. Irresponsible of restaurants to tolerate that.

Or he magically find his wallet..

  4. Could be a coincident BUT...

This first happened about a month ago when I had breakfast down at beachroad. The next table, an old foreigner just finish his meal and was about to pay when he realized that he forgot his wallet. He came over to my table and said he was so stupid to forget his wallet and that he lived fare away on the dark side. I pity him and i offered to pay for his meal which he really appreciated. Never thought anything more about that until yesterday.

I was in the same restaurant when I hear someone start complain he forgot his wallet, when I look up I see its the same guy that I helped a month ago. He did the same thing went over to the next table, told his story but they wasn't happy to help. He moved on to another table with no luck, then an older guy at another table offered to pay for him and he was so happy and thankful. At the same time I hear the Thai staff at the restaurant gossip him saying " this old man always forgot his wallet" and laugh at him, obviously they had no idea what he was up to.

  5. Hmmm Lebu chulia ugh!!

if you want to stay a bit upmarket away from the "great unwashed" my mate Arthur at Mingood hotel ( I suppose its about 800 THB ish) a night in jalan argyle is a great chap he will sort everything swiftly in style as they say in Allo Allo

I have never stayed at mingood but I am sure it's not an upmarket hotel. Well, if u compare with as u say "great unwashed" I would agree its upmarket. Lol. Anyway, the staff are very friendly and the visa service is great. Highly recommended.

  6. all i need is find cheap hotel :) if anyone knows some

If the price of hotel is a mayor concern choose K.L, cheaper than Singapore unless u stay far away. But KL hotels is some of the worse, if they say 3 stay it would be more like 1 star in Thailand.

There is a lot of things to do in KL, do the towers or even better radio tower with nice view and also offer dinner with nice view. Traders hotel got nice view of the towers, go for a drink. If u have time, genting highlands nice view and funpark and casino. They also got a fun park in KL it's called sunway and is good for a day trip. If u want to go to the beach, port Dickson is not too far with taxi.

  7. "Accommodation owners should check the foreigner’s passport photo matches the person’s face, because sometimes there are issues with a person using a fake passport, Capt Angkarn said. Also required in the reporting form is the type and number of the visa, their arrival date to Thailand, the issue date and expiry date of the visa, and the number of entries to the country available (single or multiple)."

I thought that was immigrations job to do when people first arrive?
