  1. Just got this in an email from the UK Consulate

Regarding a current visa in your new passport. When you receive a new passport in Bangkok you can visit our office in Chiang Mai between 0900-1130 hrs, Monday to Friday (or you can visit our Embassy in Bangkok – opening hours can be checked from:www.gov.uk/world/thailand ) for a Performa letter about details of your old and new passport and visa type. You will be completed the information and we will stamp for you. There is NO cost involved for this. The immigration require a Performa letter and they can then transfer a stamp from your old passport to the new passport. After that they can sort out an overstay and visa extension for you.

    Is it really necessary?

Wont they just sort it all out at the airport?

I don't want to visit embassies etc if I don't have to, it's another big waste of time effort and expense, but I don't want to get turned back at the airport and miss my flight.

Is there an Immigration Helpline I can ring to be 100% on this?

I want to book a flight asap before they're sold out

You do not need to go to immigration. You can just go to the airport and they will handle the stamps and overstay.

I hope the Embassy will confirm that for me

cos I just got this from them

"As far as we understand you require a Performa letter

from our Embassy. You can get it if you are in Bangkok"

  3. You apparently were on a 30 day visa exempt entry not a visa on arrival. A visa on arrival only gives a 15 day entry and you pay 1000 baht for it..

You can pay the overstay on departure from the country at the airport.

As I recollect, the OP is on overstay due to late arrival of a UK replacement passport where the original was so full that no further extension stamps cold be physically added.

OP had a series of medical extensions on an original 30 day visa exempt.

OP is travelling to BKK to collect the new passport from Chiang Mai and wants to directly leave Thailand/pay overstay and not return to Chiang Mai first to transfer stamps.

    Thats correct.

I would like to be sure before I leave chiang mai, that I can just go from trendy to the airport and pay overstay and fly out

What days/hours would overstay office be open at Don Muang/swampy airports?

And I guess trendy is not open saturdays to collect the passport?

  4. So when/if your new UK passport finally arrives, what do you have to do. if you are on overstay?

Can you just roll up to the overstay dept at Swampy airport with your old and new passports, pay the overstay and hop on a plane out of the country?

Or do you have to go to Immigration, get your old expired entry stamps etc transferred to your new passport first?

And do you need a letter from the embassy or any place else to do this?

  5. Just got the phone call.

Can I fly to Bangkok without a visa(ie on old passport on overstay?)

Or do I have to wait until monday and bus there from chiang mai?

I dont know anyone in BKK to collect for me

And if I can get it tomorrow Friday, how do I stop the overstay? Just leave the country? without a visa?

Or do I have to go back to immigration and reapply there on Monday?

Can I just hop on a plane out of the country and pay overstay on the way, or is it more complicated than that?

    Good (you got the 'call')

I guess you should be able to use your expired passport for ID on an internal flight to BKK.

Overstay, you should get your extension/entry stamps transferred your new passport at Thai Immigration.

But it may complicate issues plus it will take you time to get the authorization document from British Embassy Consular Services, they close at 11:00 am weekdays for applications!! (neither HMPO or trendy can be bothered to provide this document). The authorization letter can be done via email/EMS, but allow 5 days + fro this route.

However, you were on a medical extension, so maybe you could swing it at Thai Immigration, worth a try.

Worst case, book your flight and bowl up at least an hour earlier than required for your flight, with the right cash.

You mean I cant just collect my new blank passport from Trendy then off to the airport and pay the overstay there on my way out of the country?

Do I really need to get my thai entry stamp and "expired extension to exemption of visa"stamp/s transferred to my new passport , from immigration, before I leave the cuntry?

I have been dealing with Chiang Mai Immigration, so would I have to return to ChiangMai immigration and Consulate before I can fly out?

It would be so much simpler/quicker/cheaper if I can take my old passport to Swampy to pay the overstay, and get an exit stamp on my new passport.

Like I said, there is absolutely no more room in my old passport for a single stamp(unless it's a small regular one)

  7. Can anyone here that's had a call from Trendy, put the number on here so I can call them?

More importantly have you first contacted DHL and where is your shipment?

    DHelL?

would love them to ship to chiang mai for me( unless theyre trying to screw me for extra charges, import duty, tax tax etc again)

Should I call them now to see if they have something for me? I dont wanna go to Bangkok again if it can be avoided

Use their original Ref number, or my HMPO ref number?

    Any phone numbers much appreciated

  8. I got a reply today, "I can confirm that your application is awaiting examination" and a Reference number

This will cost me 500quid in overstay

Sorry to disappoint, but your passport goes to the status 'awaiting examination' the day they debit your account for payment,

What the HMPO are telling you is that nothing has happened yet and that you are still in a very long and ever expanding queue.

All this means is that your application is sitting in an orange box, amongst may other orange boxes, getting lonely in a no longer used conference room at HMPO Liverpool.

Don't stand for an HMPO enforced overstay, the British Government has put you in a position where you could be detained, arrested and deported from Thailand - do you think that is reasonable?.

No delay, phone the British Consular Facility in BKK (not the Embassy) today and ask for their help.

Make an appointment, go to there and tell them that you are travelling to wherever and get an ETD - take this document to immigration and get an extension, if not then do the travel and get an entry stamp (I know this would be despite your medical issues).

Can you present any rational reason why you should not do this (other than that the British Embassy told you 'The computer says no')?

Or do you want to risk getting arrested and deported on overstay (btw you would have to pay for an ETD first to then get deported)?

    I do have a reason or two,however

"No delay, phone the British Consular Facility in BKK (not the Embassy) today and ask for their help."

Is that the same number as the Embassy? I can see no other number listed

It's the same number as the Embassy, listen carefully to the menu choices, you need British Consular Services.

It took me a couple of calls to figure it out, but you can work your way through the dial menus to speak to the BKK Consular facility.

I called them, John there said there was nothing else I could do, go to bangkok for Emergency passport or overstay,

  10. It being a month since my application at Trendy, I yesterday called HMPO hotline in UK, where Chloe could not give me a Reference number for my passport, but promised that she would email the relevant department who would email me the Reference number

I got an email yesterday from hmpo.gsi.gov.uk asking my complete details, so perhaps they will send me a Ref. No now, or progress report

I managed to get a ref number off them on the phone once they put me through the 'progress team' lol..

You're only a month in so may have a ways to go yet..

Thats good, she told me there was noone they could phone nor put me through to

  13. British Consulate informed me that an Emergency Passport is only for travelling, so I have to go onto overstay.(until my new passport arrives)

Despite CM immigration telling me that consulate can issue me with something so I can get a visa extension, and British Embassy advising me on phone last week that I can get an Emergency Passport in Chiang Mai same day if necessary.

So it looks like 15,000bt in overstay fines coming up

And all because CM Immigration used up all the remaining space in my passport with their previous stamps with wrong date, giving me 2weeks instead of 30 days, corrections, scribbling and otherwise using as much space as possible.

  14. Watso

, I was in Chiang Mai Immigration yesterday for another extension to my Visa Exemption, with a doctor's note, but there is no room on my passport for another stamp.

My previous visits there they had filled the last page and a half with their stamps, corrections for wrong date, and other scribbling and left no room.

They were not prepared to squeeze another stamp in anywhere while I await my new passport, so I have to go to British Consulate today for an Emergency Passport.

    Today my visa expires
