Being in Thailand or in L.A. or anywhere else, I don't understand how some consider fathering a child that would most probably never know them more than a few years.
The money issue is lagging far behind the responsibility you have as a father to be there for your kids. How "privileged" they would be financially will never compensate the lack of personal interaction
For that reason I do too consider it selfish indeed

May I suggest instead:
"Pol Maj-Gen S. Y. (...), said that the incident was even more serious as the victims are underaged."

I was living in a modern house in Sansai when a earthquake hit the area around 2008. It was very local but pretty strong too (I guess it means happening at reduced depth; the underground noise was impressive) and everyone in the moobaan rushed out of their homes. After the minute or so it lasted I checked the entire house for damages and - at my surprise - couldn't find a single crack.
It seems that the concrete skeleton design Thais adopt to build such modern houses is quite efficient in such situation.

Unfortunately, the academic circles are suffering the same flaws as most institutions here: merit comes second to preserving the structures and the positions.
I have been explained some selection processes that I wouldn't describe here since I would instantly be labelled as a Thai basher; but it was hardly believable (although from a reliable source) and totally antinomic with the very purpose of an academic institution.
No. It's not the kind of environment I would recommend for a serious learning experience.

Really no information that could be gathered from him alive?
I mean if the point is to dismantle a supply trail, he'll be now of no help for any progress

Ok. Get it. Thx
From the transcription, I read "naklua beach" as " น่ากลัว" (the "scary beach")
(I would write it rather as "Na Kleua" then, but that's personal)
RIP to the man

Naklua?
That's really how this beach is called?
.. fits sadly in the news

They had a big "scam" a few years back with the new scanners didn't they? Some kick back, bribery, few worked or few worked shortly after installation. As far as being safe, well, I believe that is very unproven. yes they are not supposed to use x-rays, but I recall an article stating that they were NOT required to be UL approved. So there is little oversight on how they should be set up, used, maintained and monitored, etc. Basically there are no safety checks or reviews.
If I'm right, the scandal was about bomb detectors (luggage screening) and not passengers scanners

The criteria for applicants includes:
- Over 50 years of age
- Monthly salary of 100,000 baht or 3 million baht in the bank, which cannot be withdrawn within the first year of receiving new visa
- Health insurance that covers hospital stays and provides at least USD$10,000 in annual coverage
While no date of when the new visa will be implemented has been announced, officials hope it will help to promote Thailand as a hub for medical tourism.
and soon an extra requirement?:

if it serves the underlying milking purpose..

Adhesion of Turkey, even without Erdogan, is a suicidal dream of technocrats who lost touch with reality.
The EU has already lost UK.
Should Turkey join, you would see countries like France (that is already today on the brink of electing openly xenophobic and separatist candidates) or Finland... start leaving the same way
Simply the end of the EU
It is frightening to see how these bureaucrats can't see further than numbers. The EU project needs some basic human homogeneity. It's not just about summing GDP's and workforce. People need to feel some real sense of belonging.
Including Turkey - except in wishful thinking utopias - would definitely ruin an already fragile balance and disintegrate the Union.
Now, put Erdogan on top of that
What's next? calls to Putin? (the populated area of Russia is also on the European continent, after all)

Last time I bought a reusable bag at Big C, the cashier didn't really understand why I opposed her wrapping it in... a plastic bag.
Still a loooong way to go
But, as said before, the hope lies in teaching the next generation
We're swimming against the tide here but, like any tide, with time it's supposed to reverse

I am not a big fan of this Govt, but if they have the stones to reform the police from top to bottom, they will be remembered as the most efficient government Thailand has ever had..

Sure. Keep them.
They so greatly contribute to the glorious RTP image

The first was of a Bang Na (eastern Bangkok) policeman asking for and taking a bribe. He said that the officer concerned had been dismissed from the force after the incident in 2013.
Dismissed?
Or jailed as this is the only effective way to deal with a rogue officer whose duty is precisely to enforce the law?

The fuse would most likely never have blown. The purpose of a fuse is not to prevent electrocution. You need a RCD/ Earth leakage safety switch for that.
Given the extend of the injuries ("...They had burns all over their bodies..."), I expected the implied current would blow the fuse, even if too late to save the first one.
But I may as well be wrong in my guess.

As typically anything above 70mA is fatal, presuming you have enough voltage to push the current through the body, I dont think an 8 A or 15 A fuse would offer much protection.
Maybe not for the first contact but could have saved the 2 other guys (unless they were holding hands)

I do agree totally. But I would say that most of a city like Rio can turn dangerous at certain hours
I had small accidents (with no serious consequences; those being good warnings) while staying long periods too.
An amazing country (that one well deserves the adjective) but, remain on your guard.
