  1. I've watched pretty much all the major events (as well as most of the non-major ones), and I did watch the gymnastics.

What I can say is... He Kexin is an amazing athlete :o

I did know about this controversy too about her age. She probably is just 14, which makes her performances that bit better for me :D Great athlete.

and.. Beth Tweddle should have won a medal, I'm not a judge, but to me her performance was easily worth a gold medal, better than anyone I saw.

    no rants from me though.

    ps. from UK

You don't understand gymnastics if you say that, being underage gives an unfair advantage, they have more flexibility. What you admired was most likely a cheating performance. In Greece, the Americans had some underage probable gold medal winners and they followed the rules and didn't get those golds. Is China so special they get to make up their own rules?

No but they should be accorded the same rights that we crow about in the west. No-one has yet been found guilty of being underage. Until they are, they are entitled to be considered the winner.

  2. This brings us back to an old favorite topic you might wish to refer to here:

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Hear-Word-Fa...p;hl=derogatory

a troll-infested, multiple-deleted post mercifully closed thread is an "old favorite?"

Mercy.... please show mercy... :o 162 posts, 2500 views... This one has also achieved its sought-after cult classic status... to go down forever in eternity as an "old favorite"

    At least it's not a poll :D

  3. You might want to consider the MSI Wind (for those in the UK available as the Advent 4211 from PC Wolrd and £50 cheaper than the Wind). 10" screen, decent size keyboard, 1GB RAM, 80GB hard drive, XP Home, WiFi, Bluetooth, Webcam & Mic built in. A lovely bit of kit. Quick review here.

  4. I realize the audience for this movie is Thai people and Thai people can and will make any kinds of movies they want, and watch any kinds of movies they want. However, I have to ask, will movies like Hanuman create more hatred and violence against farangs from Thais?

Have you actually suffered any hatred and violence from Thais? Do you any other farangs who have (apart from those sufficiently drunk and/or stupid to bring it upon themselves)?

No, not violence but in some cases threats of violence, but alot of stupid stereotyping though and definitely surly unwelcome behavior. I can't know what people are thinking, so how to comment on the hatred question. Come to think of it, I have experienced what could be characterized as hatred (anti farang cursing) when I don't behave in the exact stereotypical way that the Thai person expects me to behave based on their stupid preconception about how every farang should behave. Anyway, what difference would it make anyway? One person?

What you have written is a description of the treatment of outsiders in practically every country in the world. The fact that many people react to the stereotypes that they've been fed isn't confined to Thailand.

You ask whether Hanuman will create more hatred and violence against farangs from Thais. Do you have any evidence that hatred and violence of farangs is widespread in Thailand now (apart from the idiotic tendency that I mentioned above)?

  6. I have an Advent 4211 (the UK version of the Wind and £50 cheaper!). It's an excellent machine. The 10" screen is just the right size and allows for a decent size keyboard. 80GB hard drive and XP Home. Battery life is a little poor but aftermarket batteries are being designed.Brilliant!

  7. What you could do to be 'awkward' is what some people did when we were looking to buy a property in the UK some years ago.

But he isn't looking to buy a property in the UK - he's trying to escape a rental in Thailand. Being 'awkward' in Thailand can have far more severe consequences than it can in the UK. The best thing he (and you) can do is to stop importing your western assumptions into Thailand. They don't work - they aren't relevant.
