  1. Having sex with a ladyboy is gay. I don't think who's pitching or whose catching is relevant. Also, two men having sex with one ladyboy, or one lady, is gay. I still can't believe this happened in Pattaya.

On the contrary - Pattaya is one of the few places in the world where no-one would bat an eyelid :o

  2. For their sakes...I sure hope the ayatollahs are not readers of Thai Visa or the Pattaya Gazette....

Otherwise.... I think it's stoning time.... What's the going rate (penalty) for sodomy in Iran????

Death for homosexuality in Iran, though they have specific rules about witnesses.

Surprising to learn Iran is rather liberal about trannies, second to Thailand in sex change operations! I still think these men will probably be OK because the sex was with third sex women, not men. It wouldn't surprise me if they have their passports taken though. Again, just guessing, but check this out:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/7259057.stm

I watched the original programme on the BBC. It was hugely depressing. The sex change thing is simply a way for gay men to avoid stigma and possible execution. Most of those on the programme didn't want the op but felt they had no choice.

  3. This is the most moderated site I've ever seen. It's so moderated it doesn't see where it's going.

Moderation is extremely tedious; it allows the weak to bully the strong.

As opposed to what? The strong bullying the weak?

Yup. It's the natural order of things.

Haven't you heard of Darwinism? It made quite a stir a while ago, you know.

That's why Thaivisa has moderators - so the bullies don't take over. If you think that only the strong are entitled to opinions there are other Thai-related forums available. They are uniformly far less pleasant than Thaivisa.

  5. I may be wrong but I suspect we may be answering the wrong question. Let me rephrase it:

Why does Thailand have a forum with 70,000 members when other expat-friendly countries have forums with far fewer members?

What is there about Thailand that encourages so much attention compared to other countries?

Why is there a Thaivisa but not a Philipinnesvisa? or a Mexicovisa or a CostaRicaVisa? or a Hondurasvisa?

  6. ....and if you have a UK state pension let them know that you have actually retired to the Phillippines.......

go over for the weekend and open up an a/c with the Bank of the Coconut Islands....and.... :o

Is the Philippines one of those countries that gets cost of living upgrades?

  7. :o
Americans :D:D:D . 30 years ago they inspected each and every sailors genetal if you wanted to go ashore.I usually get full of laugh when i hear americans bragging.

Let them have their illusions :D

Norway is the capital of Copenhagen!

    Cheers

Well, I was a sailor for 25 years and cleared customs hundreds of times in dozens of countries and something like that never happened even once. I think you don't have any idea what you're talking about. :D:DB)

25 years at sea and you have never heard about the famous "dickswing" :burp: infront of one US healthinspector???. I bet you are from the US since their citizens were extempt.Otherwise i dont know where you spent your time at sea :D

I was an American Merchant Marine officer.

I was a British Merchant Marine Officer and US INS treated the whole ship's crew like shit every time we berthed in the USA. Fortunately ordinary US folks were hugely welcoming and friendly which made up for the attitude of the immigration <deleted>.

  8. You hiding smth jingthing? :o BTW its random mate, not sure why you are getting your panties in a wad for? If you fit criteria, then be prepared for a little inconvenience. Flying is not a right, just remember that. :D

Nope. I don't even own a laptop. Are you British? How could you understand American's ideas of privacy rights?

As an aside Google is finding that the British idea of privacy rights is rather wider than they bargained for. Their 'Streetview' photography is causing a bit of a hoo-haa over here.

  9. Maybe not topic-relevant, but then again, maybe it is.

It came up in a thread on TESL-L regarding location of first and second languages in different parts of the brain.

<H1 class=story>Woman Aquires New Accent After Stroke</H1>ScienceDaily (July 6, 2008) — A woman in southern Ontario is one of the first cases in Canada of a rare neurological syndrome in which a person starts speaking with a different accent, McMaster University researchers report in the July issue of the Canadian Journal of Neurological Sciences.

The puzzling medical phenomenon known as foreign-accent syndrome (FAS) arises from neurological damage, and results in vocal distortions that typically sound like the speaker has a new, "foreign" accent. This particular case, however, is even more unusual because the English-speaking woman did not acquire an accent that sounds foreign but one that instead sounds like Maritime Canadian English.

There was a case in the UK a couple of years ago. A guy from London, who'd never been out of Britain, had a stroke and started speaking English with an Italian accent.

  10. Wow! :o

What a contentious issue! What a shame that this is the first thread I've read on this forum...... :D

I have to say that as a happily "married" English gay woman I was very much looking forward to moving to Thailand with my partner in the very near future. We were assuming that the Land of Smiles would be welcoming and understanding of our same sex relationship! How wrong we appear to have been!?

For a thread on a gay sub forum there seems to be an awful lot of anti-gay feelings!

I'm a woman "married" to another woman. I love my "wife" very much. If the use of those usually heterosexual terms offends anyone, well I don't give a dam_n.

We're happy and we're not hurting anyone else. :D

Tornado and KeviN, even for the bigots that you both are (OED definition of bigot: a person who is prejudiced in their views and intolerant of the opinions of others..) if I saw you on fire at the side of the road, I'd stop, put you out and take you to a hospital because whatever you may think, I'm a caring human being who would be happy if everybody else would just get on and not make judgements about things they know nothing about.

    Live and let live.

I am honestly just curious, are you both each others wives ?

You really must get over this preoccupation with who does what to who. Assuming that you are married or have a regular GF - is the only thing that's important about her to you her genitalia? Is she just a slab of meat with a hole in the middle? Or is your relationship based on more than shagging?

  11. northern rock are offering 6 %

    http://www.northernrock.co.uk/savings/onli...campaign=esaver

but not to sure who would trust there money with them :o

I would assume that now Northern Rock is nationalised they are as safe as the Bank of England? So surely the safest place to put money after National Savings?

They're still pulling tricks though. I opened an account with them which initially paid 6.3%. 6 weeks later it was down to 6% without any notification. When the BoE dropped the base rate by 0.25% a couple of weeks later they dropped their rate to 5.65%. They always been one for pulling stunts even before they went bust.

  12. Reminds me of the story of a coloured (sorry is that the current politically correct term?) American expatriate who lasted about 6 months in Thailand.

    His reason for leaving?

"I didn't come 10,000 miles to be called Khun..."

Supposed to be a true story

There was a black member of Thaivisa who used to complain bitterly about the use of the word 'boy' in Thailand. He simply wouldn't believe that it is a word in common use to describe young men and thought it was being used as a personal insult.

  13. Is there nobody in Thailand that gives a sh*t, or is Thailand just 50 years behind the times?
Thailand does not have a population of 'black' people that would see or even be aware of such a programme to offend.

The UK and US have become multicultural at the expense of their original cultures - the very thing to be prized as it attracted immigration from 'lesser' countries during the post war era.

I heard today that UK police dogs must now wear little booties when involved with Islamic houses so has not to offend, the UK police must love this - today of all days - third aniversary of the London bombings.

Not quite correct. ACPO (The Association of Chief Police Officers) has decided this. From yesterday's Sunday Times:

"Ibrahim Mogra, one of Britain’s leading imams, said the measures were unnecessary: “In Islamic law the dog is not regarded as impure, only its saliva is. Most Islamic schools of law agree on that. If security measures require to send a dog into a house, then it has to be done. I think Acpo needs to consult better and more widely. “I know in the Muslim community there is a hang-up against dogs, but this is cultural. Also, we know the British like dogs; we Muslims should do our bit to change our attitudes.”"

  14. Not really considering The Abbey Bank is offering 10% on deposit accounts with no risk.

10% on a regular saver account: Max 250 GBP per month: Just a con-trick by a Spanish bank.

Try a 7% One-Year Bond with Britannia International.

    www.britanniainternational.com

Yields a healthy monthly return of 1150 GBP for a comfortable Thailand lifestyle for just a 200K GBP deposit: Problem solved.

    That's 6.9%/year; what about the risks ?

What about inflation ? in the UK and/or Thailand ?

What about if the company goes under ? Up to what amount is your 200K GBP secured, according to UK laws ?

What about taxes over the 6.9%/year; No taxes to be paid ? :o

What about the risks GBP[ versus Baht ?

What happens after the 'one-year' bond ?

    Many questions.......

If the company goes under the first £15K is covered on the Isle of Man but in Brittania's T&Cs they say that the 'mother company' in the UK will cover their liabilites. The UK has a coverage of £35k. Their wording doesn't make it clear whether they'd cover to £35k or £15k.

If you're non-resident for tax purposes there's no tax to pay.

  15. Not really considering The Abbey Bank is offering 10% on deposit accounts with no risk.

It's not a simple deposit account - it's a regular savings account where you can't deposit more than £250 a month and it only runs for 12 months anyway. You also have to open a separate regular investment or Pension account and the interest drops to 0.1% for any month during which you make a withdrawal. Typical banking trickery.

  16. Today I went to carrefour pattaya for shopping and among the items I bought were some bananas wich were priced at 29 baht.At the check out however they charged 54 baht, which I noticed before the total was calculated and notified the cashier. After some discussion they agreed that they priced the item wrong and agreed to correct the price to 29 baht with which I was satisfied.Next a superior to the cashier made a recalled sales bill on which the bananas were charged 29 baht and I paid the grand total. While I was walking to the car I checked the bill again and noticed that instead of correcting the price on the bill they just added the 29 baht to the total. So at that time Carrefour was actually stealing 54 baht from me.I went back to the cashier who called that same superior again and they wanted to give me back 54 baht. However at that time I wasn't satisfied anymore with the practices and asked to speak with the manager. They lead me to the customer service where I spoke with another thai lady and who I aked to getthe item free this time but the only thing they offered was giving me back 54 baht.I told them that by charging me for an item I didn't buy (there were 2 times bananas on the bill ) they had stolen money from me.

They simply said it was a mistake and no further compensation would be made.

They were right. They made a mistake which they offered to correct. You refused to allow them to. They 'stole' nothing from you and you are not entitled to any compensation at all.

Read again befor you comment. They corrected a mistake with another mistake. How many mistakes are needed before it is considered no mistake anymore?

They offered to correct their second mistake. You refused to allow them to. You appear to want to pick a fight for the sake of picking a fight.
