  1. I went to the True business located at Big C in Mukdahan asking about getting a True Air Card. They asked me if I had a work permit. I told them no, that I am retired and have been living in Thailand for the past 8 years. They said sorry, no work permit no air card. I can get True satellite, Internet from the the satellite or I could also get a True SIMs card but no air card.

Does this make sense? Did I talk to an employee that maybe did not understand? If some one who as been here for a month on a work permit is able to get the air card why some one who lives here can not?

Is there anyone out there that has a True Air Card that was not purchased through their wife or girl friend?

I know many things are different here but this one makes no sense.

  2. Na has added Mashed Potato's to the menu and they are delicious. Also the steaks are thicker. She also added free WiFi so you can surf the web and enjoy a cold one while sitting outside or inside. It just keeps getting better.

  3. I know this isn't in Thailand but it's close.

I have been looking on the internet for information on the golf course in Savannakhet but nothing comes up. Has anyone golfed there? Is there a web address? What's the cost?

    Any information will be appreciated.

    Thanks

  4. I was recently at Na's restaurant and she gave me a sample of some mashed potato's that she made from scratch. No box stuff. They were just as good if not better then what I had in the states. I always liked mine with a few lumps of potato in them and they were there. Na said she is thinking about adding them to her menu. If you ask, she will include them in place of fries. I can't say if they will cost more then the fries but even if it does it will be worth it. So I can highly recommend asking for the mashed potato's. You will not be disappointed.

  5. I'm about to hours from Mukdhan but I get up there twice a week for two days at time. This restaurant is the nicest one I have found in a long time. I have ordered off both the Thai and Western menue. Excellant. The place is clean, comfortable and friendly.

Na, the owner, is one nice lady. Her english is quite good and she makes you feel that she is glad that you are there.

I highly recommend you try this restaurant when you're in Mukdahan.

  6. I'm not an "ex PGA golf pro" and I bet you aren't either......Tucked in shirts, slacks and belts are the appropriate dress for any golf pro I've ever seen.

Well if you are so sure that im not a ex PGA pro then do you fancy challenging me to a game, you name the stakes, I live in Pattaya so I course close to here would suit me fine

For being an "EX-Pro" you probably golfed all over the world. Now I am not a Pro but I have golfed at a few courses. What I learned is that each course have their own standards. In their own way they seem to be trying to keep some kind of standard. Where I play I usually wear shorts or even jeans and had no problem but I have noticed that the Thai golfers, at this course, allways seem to wear casual pants.

    Call first.

  7. Like Dave111223 said, China Airlines based on price. They always fly through Taipei as the only stopover. The last trip the layover was 1 hour (which is really cutting it) going back to LA.

    www.china-airlines.com

I have used them for all my four trips over the last year and a half and they always come up the cheapest. Booking directly on their website will save you a few more dollars than over the best price you can find anywhere else.

Don't know anything at all about saving through an agent as I never use them anymore.

If you go to www.airsafe.com you will see why you should avoid China Air along with Peoples Republic of China Airlines and Indian Air.

Eva Air has had no fatel accidents since it sterted flying in 1991

  8. I think I have installed what you are looking for. The local Independent Thai "Pump and tool" shop called it a "Pressure Tank" and it is available in various sizes. We have a SWK brand 500 liter 2mm pressure tank with a Square D brand controller switch model 9012 FSG-2. There is information on this Square D product that is made in Italy on the internet. I could not find information on the SWK tank via a quick Google search.

Once this "pressure tank" was installed by the shop technicians the Hitachi Inverter pump was activate FAR less. In my opinion it saves NOISE, ELECTRICAL USAGE and wear and tear on the Hitachi water pump. We immediately had significant water pressure in the second floor bathrooms to activate the Stiebel Eltron under counter multiple point water heaters.

WARNING: About two days after the first usage of the pressure tank we had some leaks in the bathroom plumbing near the sinks and/or toilets. The builder came and promptly fixed this situation and I noticed they used CHANG brand glue on the PVC pipes for this repair. They have not leaked since and I was told the water pressure became far higher in our pipes than "normal" Thai construction once the pressure tank was activated. The SYLER pipes did not have problems, only the PVC thick walled pipes.

I was given a one year "parts and labor" guarantee by the local Pump Shop in Buriram. Handy since the Square D 9012 FSG-2 had to be replaced and twice they have made adjustments to the pressure tank. Seems to me there might be an adjustment switch on top of the Square D switch. But WITHOUT this "pressure tank" we would have to have the water pump operate 100% of the time we use water in our home.

There must be a scientific formula for how much water pressure you obtain via gravity and a water tank installed high. In our case we did not want a "tank in the sky" and I was told by the builder and pump shop that for water to be sufficient pressure on the 2nd floor of our home we could A) use the pump only or :o have the pressure tank to minimize the pump usage. From our experience the pressure tank was well worth the money.

yes thisis where you are looking for.have many shops selling this equipment.

I believe that is what I'm looking for. Thanks for the pictures. I went to the local Home Hub in Ubon and the salesmen had no clue what I was talking about. I'll show him the pictures.

    Thanks

  9. Hello,

Does anyone know if bladder type water tanks are sold here? I know about the storage tanks but can't find bladder tanks.

    Thanks

Hello do you mean a hydrophore type tank.

    TJAN

Don't know if thats what their called. The bladder tank as I know it is a tank with a rubber diaphram that sits near the top of the tank with an air charge in it. It helps prevent the water pump from cycling too often.

  10. I am a US citizen, 64 years old, have been doing visa runs for a while, also getting 60 day tourist visas then 30 day extentions, etc. A friend told me it's not so difficult to get the retirement visa so i dont have to bother with visa runs.

Will i have to leave thailand to get this visa? Is there another type of visa I have to get first before i get the retirement visa? Is it more or less complicated for US citizens to get retirement visa here? Can i do the paperwork on my own or is it better to use a visa service place? If i use a visa service, what's the fair price to pay?

    Thanks !

Just a heads up. If your going to Immigration at Phibun, they might require a translation to Thai of the document the US Embassy gives you. I had mine done last year and they (immigration) wanted the translation even though the embassy and immigration agreed the english version would be accepted. They said the "boss" wanted it.

I was also told by the embassy that they were going to start taking appointments for this. Just might want to check before ou go.

  11. My retirement visa is up for renewal in May. the 7th time. A friend recently told me that the letter I have from the B/embassy, is valid only for 3 years now. true ore false ?

I just yesterday obtained a retirement visa it Phibun. I used the monthly income statement from the US Embassy. It had to be at least Bt60,000. Take note, they (Thai Immigration) wanted the confirmation of income statement from the embassy to be translated into Thai. This was a surprise because the embassy and Thai Immigration (told to me by the embassy) have an agreement that the English copy would suffice. Once I got that, the form 7 an ATM slip showing that I withdrew money (that was a new one). He did ask for my ATM card to copy but no way was that going to happen, a picture and my passport I had my visa.

I did e-mail the US Embassy and told them about the translation and they were supprised to hear it.

    Good Luck

  12. I recently visited the American Embassy to get my letter confirming my income, which is one option for the retirement visa. While there I asked if I needed a Thai translation copy. They told me that the embassy and Thai Immigration has an agreement that the English copy will be all thats required.

When I got to Phibun they wanted a Thai translation. I explained what the embassy told me. The individual told me he understood but his boss required it. I did not have to have this translation the last time I got the retirement visa.

I wrote the embassy telling them this and they said it was the fist time they have heard of such a thing.

So, if your headed to Phibun for your retirement visa, and you use your an income statement, be sure to have a copy of yor confirmation of income statement transfered to Thai.
