  1. I really want to know the Thai expression for this. I don't even know the British expression for this.
  2. Is he a rentee? A co-rentee? A lodger? A licensee? It sounds like he is the latter. So if Thai law is like English law, then an oral agreement of reasonable notice (a week?), and then the police will come and remove him.
  3. He appears to be suffering from a hoarding disorder . This is a sign of a serious mental issue and it might well be owing to depression or schizophrenia and so on. The best route ahead will probably involve SSRIs and cognitive behavioural therapy. But you need to get him to a doctor.
  4. Your friend chose Thailand's most expensive hospital. Soi 1 is Bumrumgrad; its name generates shivers in insurance conpany boardrooms. Clearly he did not simply sleep for three nights. He must have been in intensive care and a very difficult and challenging case. I would like to hear the breakdown of that price tag. But still... why that much? Is your friend Arab-looking?
  5. By reading other reports it's apparent that this newspaper report is probably wrong on several important parts of the story. It looks like the accident happened on one of the islands, and that he ended up in the hospital chain called "Bangkok Hospitals". It's also clear from other newspaper reports that the insurance company has not only refused to pay the repatriation costs but also all the surgery costs. This is significant as the grounds for refusing repatriation costs are much more extensive than the grounds for refusing the surgery costs. Most travel insurance will not cover scooter accidents. These reasons will vary from him not having a motorcycle licence, to riding a motorcycle being classed as a dangerous activity and not covered by standard travel insurance, to not wearing a helmet. Reading other reports I'm not convinced the reason for refusal is the failure to wear a helmet. As usual, it is important to take the information in these reports with a giant grain of salt.
  6. I've used it dozens of times, and they've never stamped me out. But they do allow you to partially cut the queue so that there should be no more than 5 or 6 people ahead of you. I think it's better to pay the service charge because I've noticed that if you do it yourself, then at the 'consideration'/ processing area they take slightly longer. In any event, shouldn't take less than 5 minutes, and more than 25 minutes.
  7. * Off topic comments regarding wearing a hiqab edited out * I invite you to think of the consequences. What are the consequences for social solidarity when you can't see the other person? Do we need social solidarity? Do we need society? Can't we just sit in our rooms alone, munching cheetos and date AI chatbots? Why do we even need to communicate with other humans? Why not upload ourselves and escape our meat bodies? Why not become Skygods?... In other words, your dismissive "what's the problem?" is exactly the problem. There is always a problem.
  8. 1. Get your prescription from the best eye hospital in your city. Make sure this includes the pupillary distance (PD) as that is often forgotten but is necessary for an order over the internet 2. Order the glasses over the internet with Zenni, using their convenient App 3. Express surprise and delight at the high quality, the speed of delivery and the incredible cheapness of the product, next time you use the Thaivisa forum
  9. We actually need to see less military production nationalism. As an example, the current problem in Western Europe is that the countries are unwilling to purchase/research new tanks unless they are domestically made/designed tanks. Poland has ruthlessly, in contrast, chosen to purchase an enormous quantity of Korean tanks. And Ukraine is attempting to get a German manufacturer to stick a new factory in Ukraine. Meanwhile, France, Germany, and the UK are struggling to produce enough tanks for their future needs. BAE working together with other countries' companies with similar values, is a good thing. Aircraft research and production is simply too expensive for one country.
  10. I didn't know this, but according to an announcement (in tiny writing and in Thai) on the SmartQueue DLT App, so long as you have completed the e-learning course, and you are simply seeking to renew the licence, there is no requirement to book a Q number; you can walk straight in. I should also point out that no proof of address is required if you have a work permit.
  11. Another ypdate: It seems the deal in the very last minute has collapsed. V Ventures failed to pay its expected loan to Zipmex. What is odd is it seems they are not telling Zipmex why they haven't paid it. There might still be a devilish twist in this tale. But as things stand, Zipmex will be forced into bankruptcy within weeks.
  12. Thai courts are not bound by decisions of the Supreme Court since it is not a common law system. A freak decision is always possible but I strongly suspect that the legal decision is not what you think it is. You have a vague memory of a chat from years ago. Obviously, if you live with somebody for a long time then there will be lots of legal arguments over co-owned assets. Clearly an extravagant event may be used to infer intent to give the other person co-ownership of your assets.
  13. That's quite interesting. A charity for the homeless writes this:
  14. Has anyone gone to the immigration police office at Chengwatanna recently? I'm doing my counting on the back of an envelope, but it seems to me that all Region 1 immigration police are currently under arrest and unavailable to do any work...
  15. Update time. As announced a couple of weeks ago the creditors have approved the recovery plan for Zipmex to be purchased by V Ventures. And Zipmex announced yesterday that they are putting in an application to the Singapore Supreme Court to approve and go ahead with the plan as of 30th of March. So in a piece of rather unlikely crypto news, it appears the creditors (aka those with cryptocurrencies locked within Zipmex) will get them all back, in the next two or three weeks.
  16. There are half-measure solutions (such as Standard Bank in Isle of Man or Shipton in Jersey) but for crucial matters such as large deposits from law firms/government departments etc. you can guarantee that they will require a UK bank account with a real UK bank, not WISE etc., because it will be required in law. This problem has been ongoing for many years and even been raised in parliament. And it just gets worse. I had a huge problem with HSBC Bank around 7 years ago, but by flying to the Hong Kong branch (!), I somehow saved my account. Part of the problem is they won't tell you what the solution is. The reason for this is security. They don't want the criminals to "case the joint". So you have to offer up solutions to the vague problem they present. The problem is never simply that you live in Thailand. That is simply what they tell you is the general policy of the bank. You have to dig to find out how flexible they are.
  17. The first extension and only the first restarts the 90 day clock. But let's check with @ubonjoe .
  18. I hope Deborah is not a Nigerian princess....
  19. I think you're wasting time with the app. It did work pretty well for about 1 year, but since the improvement in the website you should use the website version. If the website version does not work then try a different browser system such as Opera or Firefox etc.
  20. There are many "health supplement" products laced with Viagra and Cialis on Lazada. We know this because various foreign countries' food safety agencies have stated it. The most notorious example is "Chu", but you can easily find others because the names are a pun on Viagra, or else they have a man holding a floppy banana. There are posts on ThaiVisa with members attesting to the presence of Viagra etc in these various supplements.
  21. Yes, a couple of days ago... from "Deborah".
  22. Companies of a similar mode to Wise are TorFX and OFX.
  23. Ex-lawyer here. You need to think about the speciality of the lawyer. Is it a family dispute, a commercial dispute, a property dispute? You shouldn't hire a property lawyer to fight a traffic law violation... A one-man band is a non-specialist and not the way to achieving a win.
  24. It means Sophie will no longer have to curtsy to Ms Markle. And that's a win in anyone's book.
  25. There is terrible dramatic irony that his job a year back was selling funeral planning, and he also had his own life insurance company for 1 year registered at the UK's Company House. It's not quite as ironic as the fire station burning down... but it's pretty close.
