Vientiane looks attractive except one thing...

Requirements say

For the purpose of accompanying spouse/family members, documents required are

1. Copy of marriage certificate

2. Copy of spouse’s ID card (in Thai)

3. Copy of house registration book (in Thailand)

4. Copy of bank statement (in Thailand)

5. Other relevant document for example copy of child’s birth certificate / ID card

Are they strict about #4?

I don't have a Thai Bank account as I get paid from Canada via direct deposit to a Canadian bank & live via my debit card.

I have proof of over 60,000 baht income via letter from employer + paystubs + online bank statement printouts.

First of all what on earth did they think they would find in the go-go bar ?

But anyway. The noodle shop next door to me sells 2 dishes, they make over 100k B per month.

My friend I go cycling with, only sells pad seeow and is sending his daughter through university in London.

One or two months decent earnings would pay for the start up costs on a food trolley to sell these or Som tam etc. etc. Don't tell me there is a Esarn girl anywhere that doesn't know how to make som tam.

The girls who worked in bars I used to drink in, as said before would openly talk to me knowing I'm not interested in what was on offer, most had many sponsors (which is easy to tell anyway by the passing around of 'English love phrases' book and the amount of not cheap phones they have ) while they sat around drinking with their mates everynight. This is what most girls are looking for. Sure as hell they didn't like what they were there for, but once they had their sponsors they picked and choose their customers. Young guys or guys gulliable enough to make promises to them.

There sure are many girls feeding families. Many do have self esteem problems. Some are working this at night so they can look after their kid in the day while a family member does at night . Some are working this way plus a day job to pay for schooling and some of the girls I knew left to get real jobs and some respect- self and from other people, but many are there as they don't want to work or are just plain party girls. To believe they are all there due to no choice is naive. There are other job opportunities and better paying ones if they are willing to reinvest the money and work,(That as well as keeping the money away from the drunk layabout boyfriend/mother/father etc or just away from the parents who won't give up the idea of being land owning farmers and get a paying job), but as many guys who have set girls up in businesses find out there are many who really aren't prepared to work and that is why they are there.

Just because someone says they are making x amount in Thailand selling noodles does not make it true. You will find those who are really making 100k selling noodles won't want to advertise it. Like anywhere, running a successful restaurant, even a food stall is hard work. competition is heavy. I will not go to the same place twice if the food is not superb. also, many of these people may own the property and not have to pay rent which is the big expense.

Suggesting that everyone can just become a noodle vendor and make 100k is silly. Most farang are not even making that amount in their profession.

I really have no comment to make about any of this. I don't care. I find it boring. The thing I find most annoying about Thailand and farang is their obsession with prostitutes. For people who claim to love the country so much they seem to have very little to say about it or even any hobbies related to it. it is just an endless conversation of dating and relationships and prostitutes. Yawn.

Look at the way the young guys and girls were behaving outside the go-go earlier.

Hookers are hookers mainly because they are too lazy to work in a respectable job.

Easy money without much effort is the name of the game.

I have lived here off and on for the last 17 years. Looks like sound advise to me. I would add:

Never entirely give up everything in your home country as there is a good chance you may need to return.

Remember that the family is the most important thing in your Thai girlfriend's life.

And.........Never make a bar girl your girlfriend or wife.

I got mine at our local Amphur office in Lamphun province. Brought my passport (with 1 year extension based on marriage), my wife, and the local head of our village. The employees at the Amphur office were friendly and helpful. They filled out the forms, the head of the village signed a paper verifying I lived at our house in our village, and about 45 minutes later -- Bob's your uncle -- I had my Yellow House Book. That easy!

Very similar to mine. I got married at the local Amphur office today and the they processed my yellow book after the marriage certificate was issued. I had the following documents:

Copy of passport of photo page and visa

Copy of wifes blue book

Copy her ID

Copy of brand new marriage certificate

Two witnesses and copies of their IDs

Three photos

The local officer filled out all the documents including the letters that the witneses had to sign.

The whole process including marriage certificate and yellow book took 3 hours.

The Amphur office was Phayao.

Very friendly staff.

I have been pursuing a yellow Tabien Baan for a month with four visits to the local Amphure.The 1st visit I had two copies of everything that you have listed and was told by a very nice lady that everything is in order and to go home and wait for a phone call to nominate a interview appiontment.Two weeks later,no phone call so went in again and were told she isn't in.A week later went back and spoke to her and she made an appiontment for 10am today and to bring along two more copies of the passport pages,Phuyai Baan and another witness who has known me for a long time.The lady didn't arrive until 11.15 and then told my wife that everything had to translated into Thai,then to come back.That was when without raising my voice said to her that I am not happy with the way that this is turning out to be a never ending process and to give me the papers back and I will not pursue it any further.

She gave me the papers which I picked up, thanked her and then walked out.I don't see any reason for trying any further to get messed around for something that has limited value.Not impressed at all.

Only Savannakhet is locally currently known to issue without bank account for a multi entry - but you really only need a single entry and during the last 30 days extend for a year using Thai wife reason and the Embassy income paperwork if you want. Single entry will be issued anywhere with normal marriage certificate/copy of wife id card and home register.

Thank you. I'm interpreting this as go to Savannakhet and apply for Multi, but if end up with single - no problem.

Just back from Savannakhet 5000 baht for Multi Non O, Savannakhet not Interested in money paperwork, I did the Savan Vegas Hotel & Casino that is advertised on TV big mistake lost my passport not once but twice service was crap will not use them again

The PP embassy page on MFA website indicates 13/14 May are public holidays in Cambodia, but you could travel and apply for new visa before then. The only report I have seen of someone obtaining another tourist visa within the immediate region with the Vientiane red stamp was at PP. Since the end of last year Penang has become difficult again in issuing tourist visas, so personally would not take the chance there. Issue at other embassies/consulates may be a lottery as the outcome cannot be guaged. Believe PP is your best option, unless you travel to Perth and obtain multiple entry Non-O visa on basis of visiting friends - consulate will require signed copy of ID card/passport of Thai friend, plus suggest taking short note from friend requesting visa issue.

Where Khun was a title bestowed at our respect to either sex, though more commonly used to show respect to a male.

It is a polite way of saying "you": khun ja pai nai (where are you going)

It can be very formal or polite meaning like Sir: Khun Tun (Respected Sir; Tun is a polite word indicating social superiority)

The least Respected Any farang who refers to themselves as either "Khun" or Arjan should be deported for being mentally unstable or is it a case their self-esteem is that low ?

But hiring others for personal tasks, (with no return) should be ok.

Just to give you a bit of background, my wife lent out money to a so called good friend (THAI) wife of a Brit I got to know the Brit ChrXXis BXXXXXX lived in Uttaradit wife lived the high life money not a problem wife 32 he 69 any how things going great untill i found out that his bussnies falled in uk his wife sutXX took all the money out of his credit cards also had borrowed 12 mil baht from different friends me 400 thousand now sold house and took 8 mil and now some where in thailand waiting to get visa to go back to uk have been onto lawyer waiting for warrent have found out she owes 1.7 mil to a policemans wife he has contact immagration so will wait see what happens
