  1. In order to qualify for a gold card (it isn't a 30 Baht card anymore, it's free) you need to be resident on a blue tabien bahn. This means you need to have permanent residency. You do not need to be Thai.

Everyone in my family (except for me) has gold cards, and everything except for optional medications are covered at no cost as long as you go to your designated government hospital. The queues are long, and the care is basic, but it is free. There is no other requirement other than to be permanently living in Thailand to qualify.

you do not need to be a permanet residency you just need to have an address which is registed on the thai system to you ie yellow book

  3. Hope this is the right Forum Looking for house, town house or condo to rent for a year at Samut Sakon tried looking on the Internet can not find anything so anybody know of any accommodation

  4. I would rank Chiang Mai far above Uttaradit as place to live. Uttaradit compares extremely favorably to Chernobyl though.

this lot dont know anything about Uttaradit I have lived there for over a year and still do yes there are several bars in Uttaradit 2 golf courses, plenty to see and do. the locals are very friendly treat you with respect will not rip you off unlike chiang mia, the expat's they are a few which is the way I like it dont like the overrun tourist places like those up north.

  5. well wife got her tourist visa today only applied for a 3 month very very easy in on monday phone call ready to pick up wedensday wife just coming over for a look 3 weeks at xmas but she seems to have the visa bug now wants to apply for the marriage visa for her self and the stepdaughter oh well there goes my retirment plan to thailand might be a good idea to retire here send the wife out to work as the way the Dollar is against the baht that is hurting!!!!!!!

  6. Hey everyone

heading over to thailand november 8. got a one way ticket from perth (aus) to bkk. planning to stay for about 10 weeks, while my fiance's prospective marriage visa gets processed. Just filling out the form for the 2 month tourist visa (and then planning to extend it 30 days while im over there). On the form, do i put 2 months as my proposed stay, or 10 weeks; as a single tourist visa will not let me stay for 10 weeks only 60 days.

Also, I only have a one way ticket and no evidence of further travel or accomodation, i assume this is ok. Is this the best visa to get for my situation?

Also, what is the best way to submit the form for processing. My expat mate was telling me to submit it in person, but i can't find any embassy in perth, only eastern states.

Last question, when is the best time to submit it; because i realise that time starts ticking from the date of approval and not the date of entry. I heard 2 weeks before planned entry?

    Regards

    Nick

there is a consulate in perth open Tue and Thursdays only look in yellow pages Think your one way ticket will be a problem as the airline has a right to deny boarding with out an onward journy

  9. Hi guys

well bit background first live in uttaradit but work in OZ here at work now, wife has just phone and told me the TOT guy has finaly arrived to set up the Internet she tell me that we are on the Internet now ????? does TOT suppy the router??? as I bought one but not set up need to run install programe wife telss me that he did not need the disc ask about the price per month 590 baht, what package is that anybody know ask what our e-mail address was she has no idea will be back home in 3 weeks can i just phone up TOT to get the email address or should the TOT guy have left it with the paper work? think we are on satellite have no experence with the satellite what speeds can i expect is it ok sending and reciving e-mails (wife did not phone for long "want to play on computor") thanks for any info

TOT dont supply a router, but a modem. It will work just fine without an actual router on the one computer it is connected to.

It looks like you got a supercyber account from TOT.

I don't recall getting any email from TOT when subscribing to their service. I think your best bet is to just sign up for a free email address at one of the online sites that provide this.

The tech should have left a piece of paper with your username and password. Usually it is:

    Username: telephonenumber@supercyber

    Password: telephonenumber

Thanks so TOT dont have a mail server is that right ?????? will need to sign up to hotmail or the like's my phone bill has just gone up the wife is ringing me with allsorts now how do i do this how do i do that oh boy !!!!!!!!!

  12. I have a friend looking for about 50 - 100 rai to retire on somewhere in Thailand, preferably in the central plains. Went to Lopburi last week to check out a distressed asset at 36,000 baht per rai. Unfortunately, it was next to a teak farm, and the residents of the village made it known in no uncertain terms that the owner of the teak farm would not allow the asset management company to sell it, and if they did, life on that land would not be enjoyable.

Needless to say, he has decided not to make an offer. At a restaurant in a village a few kms down the road, he found someone wanting to sell about 50 rai, but at a 120k per rai instead of 36k, which is really outside of the affordable range.

He asked me for advice on where to go, and I don't really have an answer, so I thought I'd ask the group. Let's say you have about 5 million baht or so, and want to purchase 50 - 100 rai in an area with good, black soil, decent rain and water, then build a comfortable house, and retire in a nice community with good people, where in Thailand would you go? A chanote is required in this instance.

The land needs to be priced reasonably for farming, not for speculation. Off the beaten path away from main roads would be preferred. Just a typical Thai village with a wat.

    Anybody have any advice?

just bought 50 rai paid 1 mill going to farm it not sure what yet was a banna plantation has an old house on it, this is up in "thai plat Uttaradit" plenty of land for sale up that way

  16. Be careful 'MaD', drinking beer chang in a motorbike has been known to be harmful to health.

Why not try it in a glass like evryone else????? :o:D:D

  17. Ahhh, the famous tree bark, now I know what it is, the father-in-law offered me a sip a few years ago, god it was rough. It is supposedly therapeutic however I found it almost instant "puke".

Who can forget the Issan tree bark malt, matured in a glass jar for a fortnight.

Last time i tried it was about a couple of months ago just before the old man in the village next to the wife's sister ( visting sister) started killing 3 pigs at the same time we were drinking luckly had nothing to eat so was ok but can not drink it like the thai's do they sip it, noo nooo can not, has to go down in one, going back on my R&R on the 8th, we are moving into the new house we built on the 10th, wife has booked the monks for the morning, bloody 7am, and she is starting to get the party organized ,asked her if we are getting some thai w"hisky all i got was silence on the phone (wife does not drink) so think i will be drinking beer chang" but going to try it in the motorbike.
