  1. When I look a the QUALITY of property available I find it hard to regard it as value for money.......it's CHEAP ... yes....but the quality is SOOO low....most of it (houses) look as if they'll last for 25 years at most. Concrete construction is abysmal. THe condos are verging on "jerry-build" too...if collapses occur during construction, what on earth is going to happen after a decade or two of wear and tear?

My last house in UK was 100 years old when I bought it and my house in Australia was 90 years old....and THAT one is made of wood....but both have a great life expectancy and even preservation assistance from local govt....can't see myself getting a deal like that in Thailand.

the more I look at real estate here the less I'm impressed

  2. I dug this old site up...but unfortunately no photos....

    WASPS in Thailand

    http://web.archive.org/web/20010729014003/...spine/photo.htm

All true wasps, along with ants and bees, are classified to a group of hymenoptera insects that possessing fully developed stings. The majority of them are solitary and inoffensive. The fully social behavior is the family Vespidae, and the most advance social organization is found in the subfamily Vespinae, which comprising the yellowjackets and hornets.

The term yellowjacket, though seems to be of American origin, properly refer to all wasps in the genera Vespula Thomson and Dolichovespula Rohwer ; whereas the term hornet is frequently used for the much larger, but closely related, old world wasps in the genus Vespa Linnaeus. They generally are called several named such as To-Hua-Sua, To-Lum, To-Luang, To-Rung, and To-Khuat, but here the are specificially, called "vespine wasps".

Acting of vespine wasps in the enviroment cause some problems not only to man but also other animals. They cause some nuisances by entering our houses and spoiling our food. The campers and foresters often get accidentally disturbing the wasps nest which abounds in the ground and in the shrubs and trees. Vespa spp. are very important pest to apiculture by invading the hives and killing great numbers of honey bees. They are of some hazardous to mankind by the fatal effect of their stings.

Despite their role as pest, they are of substantial importance as beneficial insects with efficient searching and capturing abilities. They hunt many flies, aphids, caterpillars for nourishing their youngs. They are themselves acting as pollinators from the flower-frequenting habit. In Thailand, the wasp larvae are used as human food and as baits for fishing.

It should be now recognized, from those mentioned above, that the vespine wasps play dual roles in human environment thus warranting intensive studies conducted on them. First of all, their taxonomic status are still remained in chaos, and the literature on this aspect are exceedingly rare in this country. So the purpose of obtaining baseline data to clearify such problematic condition should be urgently done prior to the thorough studies on their biology and ecology, which can be further utilized for proper management and control.

The main purpose of the present study is to conduct a thorough taxonomic study of Thai vespine wasps, together with their respective information on the biology, ecology, distribution, nest building and general behaviour observed in the field.

  3. The price of a vehicle is usually easy enough to find...but frankly I think the agression and insults Ive got from this post means that I won't get an answer. Way to late now.

I CAN get one by chatting away to dealers, my thai is not that good but it will suffice...i simply hoped that there was someone on this site who knew what they were talking about, rather than tell me what kind of car I SHOULD buy....as if the have the first idea what their talking about.

Thanks but no thanks....now how do I unsubscribe?

  5. what is the tax and insurance like on these? "

The tax and insurance could be 1000 baht more on one of the cars oooh.

In order to save 1000 baht on insurance you will buy

a car that is costs retail 50.000 more?

A normal person would testdrive the cars and see which

    one suit him best.

You will buy a car depending on the insurance?

I still dont think you really want to buy a car, you just want somebody to talk silly stuff online with you.

Like someone said it takes 2min to check that yearly insurance info yourself instead of going to a forum and spam questions.

Very obsure...what on earth are you talking about?

I've drivien most of these vehicles and know what I want, I have just found that a Discovery is 10 kper year.....A vigo is 6.4K??

the vehicles will cost is really no relevant ot me they need to be able to do what I want them to do.

the truth is that no-one can actually answer the question.

  6. It's all very well being shown the parts, but you still have to be sure they are yours!

I notice many garages are very keen you shown get a bag full of the parts they have replaced.....it actually makes me a little suspicious at times.

If you want to be really sure about things like filters and brakes, MARK them before you go in. This is sometinmes awkard and messy but it will give you a definite answer....especially if the y show you a set of worn out pads that weren't off your car.

I had to have a quick repair done in Chonburi the other day, and apart from not carrying out the repair they replaced several items that didn't need replacing...they are now explaining to their boss why they weren't paid!

  7. Hello,

I am planning a trip to Koh Chang this weekend and have a few questions. Should I bring my car over for transport? (I'd rather use songtiaws if they run regularly) It is an old Nissan Sunny running on propane. Are there any LPG stations on the island? The car is tough but it sounds like the roads are bad, especially with all the rain. Is the ferry ride very choppy? My friends tell me that if it rains anymore this week, the ferry ride would be dangerous and the trip would be a bad idea. I have enjoyed reading posts about the island; it sounds like a truly amazing place.

    Thanks

The very idea of being on KC without a vehicle makes me shudder.... unless you stay in your hotel 24/7, everything you want to do there requires some form of motor transport to get there...and repeatedly having to arrange transpport and wait for it........oh my !!!

The roads are steep and windy and have been VERY wet lately. THe ferry crossonngs are only cancelled in bad seas...not rain.......and you'll use is the same ferry whether you have a car or not. (Avoid th Centre point ferry - take the Thamachat one).

Don't go all the way to Trat, turn off at the Laem Gnob traffic lights just after the military checkpoint on the main road.

As for LPG - I don't know, but if you can fill up on the mainland, I would doubt very much you'd need more than a tankful in a week-end.

PS -0 there are no tuks-tuks on KC - only Song Taews with a great monopoly, which is especially apparent when you want to get back to your hotel late at night..........and motorbike and car hire

  8. I LOVED his first two films - Kickboxer was set in Thaland.

He was handsome and charming and a decent martial artist. His main mistake was trying avoid being typecast as a Karate Star.

If he had stayed with the martial arts films - instead of trying to switch over to action star - but selected his scripts more carefully, he might be up there with Bruce Lee!

    You mean Dead ??

    :o

Judging by his acting abilities, how would they tell?

  9. "I haven't seen any Stones/Beatles/Who/Doors/whateverband impersonators"

well that is an extremely blinkered observation.

Many individuals and bands all over the world make good livings out of impersonating other famous bands....notably

    ABBA

    The Doors

    Beatles

    Tina Turner

there was even a series on UK TV - (was it "Stars in their Eyes??)

personally I think it is all quite dreadful....but tat doesn't mean there isn't a lot of it.

THe more I hear his music and see his image ,the more I'm convinced Elvis must be of Asian blood though....why else would so many of his impersonators come from Indian or S.E. Asian stock?

  10. over-tinting your widows is dangerous...it limits the amount of light getting through and thus the detail of vision. By night this can prove highly dangerous.

often you think you can see quite well, but you are unaware of the extent of detail you have lost.
