Usually when I give ID, or visit Thai parks or attractions, I use the Pink Card and avoid any Falang pricing. So basically I like having it, it helps prove residency and separates you from the Tourists. Its not the end-all-be-all of existence, but I like having as much working in my favor as possible. So to each their own, but I like having it, and its not all that hard to get, so why not?

No, it doesn't. It's state that you are not a thai citizen on it, therefore it's up to them anyway. In chiang mai does not works out

You might check that your UK photo card license is still valid, if you want to drive in the UK. Apparently the first 2 year Thai licence is temporary and not a valid document in the UK, a bit like a provisional licence.

once you get it for one year and expires, then you can renew it for 5. when you old a 5 years thai driving licence you can apply for a international driving licence fron thailand

any benefits come with the card ?

I consider my Passport as my official ID.

No benefits. the only things that can come out of that is maybe getting thai price at national parks, as I found out recently they don't applies thai price anymore when you show only the driving licence...wonder when I will have enough of this "country" an looks for some place better for stay, that at least threat people that brings money here and dn't cause any problem, with some respect

Actually they do serve the same purpose, its just that the antiquated, and ridiculous system here is pathetic in this modern age of computers. The central government (Customs)should have one computer system with info on all tourist and long-term guest, that database should be accessed, and updated by relevant agencies, with time/user stamps, and receipt verification. How in this world of computers that can't be accomplished, is beyond me, and I work with computers/programming/databases. Either this is the most inept government in history, or their computer geniuses are complete morons. Instead we are fed ten million useless/repetitive pieces of paper/forms, that who knows what they are doing with it, and can't seem to handle. Hey Thailand, Join the modern age!!!!

    They join more our money...

  5. This just only confirm my opinion. Years ago happened to me as well, I have been told by the claim office in Rome:"Thailand, what you expect...bangkok airport is thirld world". Howhever, as my opinion on Thai is not negative as of Italian people from Rome I have been always been in doubt about the episode: this video cleared my mind.

    Howhever, please note:

-I only had 1 flight throught Rome and this scam happened.

-In more than 10 years of flight throught Milan it never happened (i believe that happen also in there, but less often)

-people from this video speaks with a strong accent from Rome...

i give you 1 advice, because these scams does not happen only in Italy, (even if ITALIANS DO IT BETTERtongue.png !): There is a packing service in bangkok and in Milan as well and I think in mostly of the airports...use it! It's only few bucks!

AS AN ITALIAN, ONLY THING CAN SAY IS SORRY TO WHAT HAPPENED...HOPE THESE SCAMMERS WILL ONE DAY PARACHUTED IN IRAQ OR BURKINA FASO WITHOUT CLOTHES, MONEY (and even parachute!blink.png )

  6. did she want her name made public ?

What is really bad about Thailand's image is the costant exposure of their "prostitution hub" destination, the new nok air calendar, women showing their boobs during songkran, Katoey festival and tv program pretending to teach thai language and making a mock of thai culture...Who care about a lonely foreign drunk woman walking late at night? She was looking for that, same as all the other before her.

She could also have been the daughter of some these full mouthed thai minister. Unfortunately...she is not!

  7. Went to Mamma mia few times. So far much cheaper than mostly Italian restaurant downton. Food is also over average and there's a selection of thai food, which suits my thai wife tastes. The only Italian managed restaurant that I found in San Sai / Mae jo area. We Will surely go back again

  8. And then disadvantages to both caravans as well as the (baby)motorhome: When you use it outside or January in the North, you'll be running the engine all night to power the air conditioner.

Ever heard of a generator?? They can also include those in the package if requested as I recall..

Engine, generator.. either way you're burning gas all night. Don't know why that's better than a cheap but decent aircon hotel or resort.

A cheapo option for the winter months would just be having a tent cover and mosquito net over the bed of a pick-up truck, with a mattress in there. That'd be like camping without having to deal with spiders. I hate spiders.

Nice one! Is the way I am enjoing the nature for 10 years, and with a 4wd pick you can really reach nice spots. If you need all the comforts why bother with a 2,000,000 baht camper here. renting an hotel room is a wiser option...
