  1. Yes, there are ways of dealing with noisy neighbours. I had some irritation the other day. Next door have a squeeking door and will insist on moving large pieces of furniture around making an awful noise on the tiles. I bought and gave them some 3 M felt and some oil, which has stopped the noise. Formyself, I only ever listen on headphones. My JVC infra red 1999 vintage are still going strong.

I think I'm over sensitive, something to do with the noise I guess when teaching in a thai classroom with 40 M2 students ,,,,,

  2. Put 8 stage filter on tap, just clean the ceramic part when flow deceases, always boil it as well. Always amazes me how much faith the Thais put in those 1 baht filter machines. Before I got the filter I just used to boil the tap water. What really worries me are the long term effects of what I do with the toilet jetwash when I'm constipated .....

  3. I wa out on Prahoyutin road this afternoon and they were showing the Yamaha R15, you could have a test run on it and they seemed to be selling them like hot cakes. 88,000 Baht OTR, was going back for a test run, but then the heavens opened, that, and the fact it only puts out 17BHP put me off. In 1982 I bought myself A Honda CB125 twin which made 16.5BHP, not a lot to show for 30 odd years of progress..post-62332-0-94473600-1403435990_thumb.j

  4. Egg, Garlic and Mangoe diet it is then ! I wonder what an omlette with these ingredients would taste like ???sick.gif

You should all try my special! Chuck spaghetti in the rice cooker, add assorted veg; meanwhile prepare a tin of sardines in a bowl, mix all sorts of stuff with this, Worcestershire sauce, peanut butter etc. Then dump your veg and spaghetti on top and cover for five minutes. Uncover and mix well. Enjoy. Yum Yum!

  5. Taking a pragmatic view, unless you are a very noisy person I'm not sure you need it.

The only time I've been disturbed by the condo above (lived in condos in Malaysia, India, Italy and Thailand) has been when they've been moving furniture about (at 3 AM in Bangalore!) and once someone (apparently large) in stilettos clip-clopping across the floor, most of the time you can't tell if anyone is home upstairs or not.

If you make a habit of moving the furniture why not install those felt pads to the bottom of the legs, that should reduce the noise. Don't wear your heels in the house.

You have hit the nail on the head. I have a problem with someone above me moving furniture at all hours. I have gone to the rooms armed with a note in Thai that my girlfriend wrote explaining the problem, but nobody will admit to it. I now have felt pads which I will give them. My next step is to sit on a chair on the above floor and try to isolate the source of the noise. Any other ideas, chaps?

  6. I understand khunbenq in that would b ur response as u r a local thai citizen and therefore are truly unable to c the big picture as it truly is. If u were to go to a country far away and watch and read the news from there u too would have a different view. Ur o ly angry coz this persons viewpoint doesnt agree with urs. Westerners will have a different view naturally. Our culture and upbringing and thinking is not the same as thais. If u go to a western country u too will find there are locals there that will response just as u do fornur home. But u as an outsoder will see things differently because ubr on the outside looking in and u as a thai have a different persective on certain things. But if u r unable to accept other peoples opnions no matter how right or wrong they may b then u urself will always remain in a constant state of blindness to the truth/reality of all the good/bad thjngs happening around. If u want peoole to respect ur opninions then u must do that for them also. It is called being mature

Jeez, any chance of that in English?

Seconded. Obviously been on the sauce...

  7. Hi, wonder if anyone is having this problem. I am running Expat TV box using the red, white and yellow AV cable through my trusty JVC cathode tube set 19 years old.Picture is perfect but every so often the sound "Hiccups" I have been told this is because I am using the AV connection and there is no problem when using the HDMI connection.Does anyone have any ideas about how to sort this out without going out and buying an LED TV?

  8. I have had the new set top box for 4 days now and am enjoying it's versatility, though I would say that when watching any program I notice it hanging and the speech missing a beat, so to speak, for a fraction of a second, now and again, though overall I am happy with it. I also have UKTV installed on my PC and I would say that it is indeed smoother than ThaiEXpat, you can also record from UKTV. It does seem odd that they haven't changed to the UKTV platform. For myself unless I chuck my 15 year old JVC TV away, I shall probably get BOTH UKTV and EXpat come renewal time.I must get out more...

  9. Well, had the new set top box for a couple of days and am extremely happy with it. Watch what you want when you want. By the way, I am running it on a 19 year old JVC TV, so if anybody is using an old TV let the company know so that adjustments can be made so that it will work as they are set up to run on the "new" LED HD TV's.I just can't throw things away!
