  1. Yes! Love Don Muang.

There are numerous posts like this. I just don't understand why people harp on about the good old days with DM being a far better airport. How quickly people forget. It was a horrible, dreadful airport. Too far away, horrible parking facilities, no mass transit option (I'm not counting Don Muang railway station), dark and dingy, terrible food and beverage outlets. It was awful.

In every respect SVB is a far superior airport. Seriously, why the love for DMK? (I'm willing to bet that at least half the people on here who slate SVB and wish for the good old days of DMK used to slag the hell out of DMK when it was our sole airport).

I have many fond memories of DMK, that great bar on the 1st floor, they brewed their own beer, Swampy always feels threatening, with it's frighteningly designed stainless steal ceilings. I never slagged DMK off and used to travel too and from there for more than 15 years. I LOVE DMK!

  2. If the latest government figures are true???

26,000+ die on the roads each year in vehicle accidents, this was quoted as 9000+ to 16,000+by other government spokesmen.

drinking is the major cause of accidents/fatilities

Bingo I have found a potential winner on the BS circuit

Next scientific resurch will tell us, "dead men tell no tales", but they have been known to vote.

Iron Maiden CD comes out again. "The Number Of The Beast" album is great for a 7/11 pub crawl.

  3. Good news for Thailand, the current government and the Prime Minister.

It must really stick in the craw of the Yingluck haters that major ( and surprising ) foreign investment like this is happening.

The TV folks who decry this are probably the same ones who believed the minimum wage would cause all F.I. to flee and that the country would be instantly bankrupted................

    One can dream

  4. an app. excellent.

the Foreign and Commonwealth Office is surely worth all the tax money. good to see that they look after their citizens.

must be feel good to be british and have that app on the iphone. share it also with other tourists like Indians(who have probably been the coder who wrote that app)n and all the others.

really brilliant idea. thumbs up 3x.

You mean as opposed to doing sweet FA. If it saves one life then it will have been worth it.

And of course , it allows you to post some more of the negative racisit xenophobic comments you enjoy to entertain us. What does your government do to promote awareness of road safety?

    "FA"? "FA" stands for what?

i also dont get the point why you call my comment "negative racist and xenophobic".

what is your issue that i give this project a triple thumbs up? any kind of road safety awareness program should be welcomed.

    "FA?" "FA" stands for what?cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

  5. This article is convoluted. Is it talking about educating Brits on how to drive? Why not bring Thailand up to global standards. The Wai may be heralded and seen in public but put a Thai behind the wheel of any vehicle and look at the Jekyll and Hyde scenario happen. The statistics are staggering by why not report the numbers for 2012 or in fact, shows meaningful stats like how many involved tourists?

Educating Brits about the fact that flashing your lights going through a junction means you are coming through, will at least save a few Brits the odd heart attack.

Yes, I have to adjust to the British meaning when back in the UK each year. I wonder if I am the only motorcyclist here who actually finds riding in Bangkok rather relaxing? It's all about your approach to riding here. Just expect the unexpected and you can't go wrong. Keep your speed reasonable and don't forget that all important "Lifesaver" look over the shoulder. I often play a game of "I spy with my little eye the Thai rider who checks behind him before moving off." Big fat ZERO most days. 99% of bike riders here wouldn't know clutch control if it came up and bit them on the A**#. But I digress..

  6. "Now Mr Camaran, I know we are in disagreement on a few points as regards the economy and our differing views on solving our Nation's problems, but is there nothing we can do?" "Well there is one idea I'd like to float by you. Lets put 150 million quid into trying to come to an agreement and bury our differences." "Prime minister, what a wonderful idea, the electorate are sure to agree. Money well spent, plus, I can get that Bugatti I always promised myself!"

  7. Popping round to get the Tax and Insurance on my 17 year old Honda next month. I know there are a few things needing to be done, but all the bloke does is take the frame number, my Green book disappears for a day, after which I am presented with a nice new Tax disc and an Insurance certificate, all for the princly sum of roughly 600 Baht. I ride off with a big smile but, also feeling a bit of a fraud and wanting them to have demanded that I replace the rear tyre or the rear shock absorber. Oh well I will certainly get it sorted for next year....

  8. Cynical I may be, however this current situation has many of the hallmarks of the state of affairs leading up to the 1997 financial debacle.

Political influence on the Central Bank and the B.O.T. Vast sums of money flowing into the Thai banking system from abroad due to the current high interest rates tht are prevailing here in Thailand, Enormous construction projects being approved by parliament to pay back the assorted sponsors of political parties and ministers.

Banking system has admitted to a couple of troubled banks that are requiring help and the full account for the rice pledging scam scheme has yet to be presented, indeed a scary scenario.

Remember that right up until the state coffers funds were all but depleted and the country was technically bankrupt too that in 1997 those in power continued on insisting everything was coming up roses in the garden.

The trouble was though those roses were not bearing blooms but as we very soon found out those roses were indeed a thorny bunch which did much harm to Thailand and its peoples. Debts from that time were moved around but they're still there today and payments are still being made today..

    ..

1997 was a crisis of wrong lending of forex to exploit an interest differential.

This is not the same situation as 1997

When the UK pound is falling through the floor, couldn't you have allowed the dream to have lasted a little longer?

  9. how can they see any of these offenses when setting up checkpoints ??

    Idiots !

I see police concentrate on motorbikes and when a car without light on at night time drive by, they not do anything !!

A bunch od complete idiots !!

Is it just me, or does anyone elses heart rate increase when you see this c**p? I ride a motorbike daily and I know I am stating the obvious, but the way of thinking here does not allow for any good to come out of crack downs. On my 20 km ride today I saw truck speeding past police motorbike, merc.. oh why bother, lets just say in excess of 40 traffic violations. Why can't the police do their job 24/7? If they did the country would be better off, not just a few individuals.
  10. Cancer – Did you know?

Did you know, that a major cause of ovarian cancer in women and young women in Thailand is the obsession with using copious amounts of talcum powder. It is also a cause of lung cancer and other respiratory diseases. Talcum powder is very similar to the asbestos series of particles. In all Thai schools, especially with young children, they insist on slapping talcum powder on the kids faces before the kids leave school. Tell them to stop doing it to your child and to stop doing it at all if possible. If the Director of the school does not listen then print off one of the many internet articles available on this subject and place it firmly in there hands.

Just done a quick search and there does seem to be a lot of evidence on the harmful effects of talc. Oh well, chucked the salt down the toilet after seeing a program on the increase of blood pressure if we take salt, but more to the point, the fact that if you take too much salt from a young age it will cause high blood pressure problems to start earlier.
  11. Be cruel to be kind, is what I think. Put the poor animals down. They serve no use to either man nor beast. Why oh why can't there be a gradual change in the attitudes towards animals here? From the soi dogs to owned dogs, they just don't get looked after as they should. I only have admiration for what they are trying to do here, but to what end? The end result will b a load of animals, flee bitten and wandering round in some area of Bangkok.

  12. I felt strangely angry when I read this. Odd, maybe it's due to the fact that in my 20 years in Thailand, nothing changes on Thailand's roads, I have only seen it get worse.S#d the crackdowns, let's see the powers that be uphold the law and take a long term view on this. Take a look at the UK with it's educating of it's people on road safety, if I just say "Clunk click" we can all finish that sentence. If this government really cared, we would see more information programs on the TV. In fact, replacing one of those wooden soap operas with a weekly program on safety on the roads would save millions of lives, but then they don't really care, do they?

  13. saw a CBR250 today whilst stopped in traffic that had a set of hard pannier boxes along with rack/frame and a top box

I couldnt get near him due to the congestion to ask him where he got it and how much it was

I did see the box he had on has NAD on it and by the look of it all its probably made by this company

anybody know where to get it and how much?

Wonder what he would have said if you had stopped him and commented that he had a nice set of nads?

nads being British slang for balls

    .................short for gonads.

Otherwise known as "goolies"We could go on and on.
  14. My little 17 year old Honda Tena 110cc 2 stroke pulls to an indicated 125kph with me bolt upright in my florescent bib, which is the reason I have decided to keep it even though I have bought a new Yamaha Spark.

    The power of 2 stroke!

Not so economical though, burns around 3 times more petrol per km then an injected wave!

Sent from my GT-I9001 using Thaivisa Connect App

Agreed. I keep a check on my Tena and she gets 30-32 kms to the litre. My Park might get double that, but I would fall asleep with boredom. I am just amazed how good the little Tena still is, compared with my poor handling "new" Yamaha Spark.
  15. My Yamaha Mio125GTX does an indicated 105, 110 down hill

A Click 125I i rode last week hit 110 on a flat and that was it's maximum, never going to hit 120kmh on it like mentioned on the previous page.

Even cruising at 80kmh you really will want to upgrade the Suspension, tyres and brakes if you're carrying some extra bulk, like me.... biggrin.png

The biggest mistake Thai's will make is to over inflate your front tyres, this is great for reducing friction/drag of the tyres, but if you need to grab the front brake, you may as well have marble tyres fitted.

Talking of which, why is it that Thais aren't accurate with their tyre pressures? I carry a British tyre gauge with me all the time and have checked peoples tyres for them, amazingly, I hve seen pressures of OVER 50psi on Waves and such like, when going by the recommended pressures for my Spark, they should be 33 rear 29 front. No wonder we see so many stupid accidents here. Oh I forgot, motorbikes are only bicycles with an engine...blink.png
