I'm very interested in this thread, I hope to take my Thai wife to live in the UK this year (visa permitting) and Wimbledon will be the closest temple to us. But I had to laugh at the highlighted bit, sounds like going to the zoo!
I was in stitches the first time I went.
Everyone turns up in their 'sunday best' with plates of food for the monks.
The monks file in, in solemn silence, give a blessing and eat their food.
As soon as the monks leave, WW2 broke out with everyone fighting for food in a really light hearted many. I noticed some people hiding plates of dessert in cupboards so that there would be some left after devouring their food mountain of main course.
Good fun, just like feeding time at the zoo

I never have any problems when living in Thailand and have a very high oppinion of the intellegence of Thais.
You are absolutely correct.
Some Thais are very clever and give excellent service.
We have an electronic repair man in our town who is a lot better than any I have met in UK
However the incompetent tradesmen always outnumber the good ones.
How would you feel if an electrician tried to NAIL some wiring onto a tiled wall in your house?
Should he have stopped to think when the first tile shattered or was he correct to continue and shatter EVERY tile.

And Makro usually have large (and relatively cheap per-kilo) blocks of Anchor cheddar,Makro are doing a special at the moment.
Buy one 2kg block and get a 2kg block of Gloucester FREE
Thats 4kg of chesse for 760 baht
The Gloucester is labelled as cheddar but looks and tastes like Gloucester.
When the Gloucester runs out the offer will end.

"Rote learning will be eradicated from the Thai education system "
Now repeat after me
"Rote learning will be eradicated from the Thai education system "
And one last time again
"Rote learning will be eradicated from the Thai education system "
There I think the ministers have got it now

I was going to boycott this thread as I find it too painful to think about it but as I appear to be in sympathetic company I will join in.
I used to have my own engineering company in UK with my own personal workshop which was equipped with any and every tool that I needed regardless of costs.
Most of my tools were SnapOn but even they didn't make every tool that I needed so I would search out tool makers that made all sorts of special tools. I probably had the biggest collection of bearing pullers in the UK, plus the precision stuff such as digital bore gauges and digital calipers. My set of Webster gauges alone cost over 1000 quid.
What happened you might ask (if you haven't fallen asleep already)
well I sold the business to a tool freak and he wouldn't buy unless I left him everything.
A tool freak, by the way, is someone who owns a set of SnapOn opened enders which have been double polished, laquered and engraved with your name in 18ct gold.
Never undone a nut, they hang on your bedroom wall.

Meanwhile, the Thai-Burmese Township Border Committee met on Wednesday in Mae Sai district to work out details of the establishment of a permanent border checkpoint and to draft measures on suppression of smuggling between the two countries after the bridge is opened.
So this meeting took place 4 days before the bridge is to be opened and is to DRAFT measures of smuggling supression.
The words horse, door and bolted spring to mind.

TP sounds like you are talking about 90day reporting which as Lopburi has said already, you can be up to 7 days late with no fine.
" I have my new visa" I presume you mean
"I have my new extension of stay"

I have been in LOS for 11 years so I cannot tell you what it is like today but I used to visit quite often when I was in UK.
You can expect a very warm welcome from some very nice people.
The head monk was always interested in me and when he found out what I did for a living he paid me a visit at work.
They have a big festival at SongGran which is worth a visit just for the food but I used to visit mid-week when it was quiet.
If you go on a Sunday at 11am you can feed the monks and then join in the free for all afterwards. Enjoy.

Obviously there is more to this story than we are told.
3 policemen caught driving impounded vehicles but the charge is not theft but evasion of tax.

So are we going to get something useful coming out of this thread ?
This is the third thread concerning the same subject.
Would the mods like to have a conflab and decide if they wish to enforce standard terms for words such as "visa" and "entry permit"
Not an easy decision to make or enforce, I grant you.
Axel's post was clear and easy to understand, there's a start.

Don't get over confident with TMB, I had to close my account with them.
First I got an international CC from them but it was not accepted in UK.
I complained but got nowhere.
Secondly I got an ATM card for my TMB asset management account only to find that the system was not online yet.

Thanks Noel, a very useful link

This rule about having to register your pre-paid sim-card to prevent bombing is a load of crap.
My wife has just bought a new sim-card but was given 7 days in which to register it. She can use it for seven days unregistered before it gets cut off.
So how will this help stop the bombing? TiT

Is it on the menu yet ?

I have had five Toyotas and one Isuzu since I moved to LOS.
Each Toyota battery would last 2 years but the Isuzu battery lasted 4 years. When I mentioned this to a mechanic he said yes that was right.
I still haven't figured it out. Any suggestions ?

I think the roads are a lot more slippery here in Thailand than Australia so the moment the computer senses the wheel slipping the ABS will cut in giving you maxim braking with out locking up so I think thats why it cuts in a lot earlier in Thailand and giving you the sense of less braking power
Or I could just be full of shit
No you are not full of shit, the road surfaces here feel as thou they are covered in sand compared to the UK ones.
My tyres last at least twice the mileage I used to get back home which would support your idea.

I would give up on the Connect4 if I were you.
You still haven't worked out nought & crosses yet

If you are serious about this then give INTJ a PM.
He swapped a 1JZ GTE into his Omega.
This links to a thread about it. (in English)

Yes both have Bangkok telephone numbers.
If you go to www.9yakyai.com
Click on STOCK and then scroll down to the picture of a 2JX GTE then it looks like the price is 65k baht.
I can't read thai so I am only guessing

Dialling in on 1222 works well with a TOT line but is much harder to connect using a TT&T line as there are much fewer lines available.
Also if you google around you will find another login/password for 1222 that enables to you stay connected unlimited

Sorry I don't know of any English sites.
Can you get someone to translate for you ?

OK, you will have to buy in the countryside.
Your best bet would be to visit every bank in town and ask to see the list of land/houses for sale and pick out one that suits you.
I strongly suggest you look for something with vacant possession
