  1. If there is any ISC ( Internal Security Act ) in Thailand, I hope that the govenment will put that to good use.

Lock that sq skull headed up with any others that is causing trouble ! Maybe also throw away the keys!

Who's the loser who propose this?

Democracy wise thailand already wound back the clock by few decades. Now you are advocating detention without trial?

  2. I wonder what Sondhi hopefully will/would have to say about this.

    Abhisit open to amnesty

PM briefs diplomats on political situation

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva says an amnesty will be considered for banned politicians to try to promote reconciliation after months of political turmoil boiled over into street violence this week.

Abhishit could have just signed his own death warrant, no one likes a puppet with a mind of his own

  3. Well, I guess every soldier/weapon expert can confirm you will be certainly dead after receiving a 100 round shower from an AK-47...

Could that incident have been stage-managed? Not uncommon here in Thailand. I remember some cases with the dear leader involved years ago...

    Very plausible.

The fact that 100 rounds from automatic weapons(at close range)and failed to kill anyone.

    Suspicious.

Actually, my guess is that the PRESS called them "Automatic Assault Rifles" (as they call any rifle), but its much more plausible that the guys here could get a hand only on the single action version of those rifles.

Meaning, they needed to push the trigger 100 times to shoot 100 bullets.

In that case, its a little more difficult than just point and shoot (spray).

I'd also say, its *really* strange they didnt kill anyone. Hit all 4 tires and cant hit a head? ... or a body? The m16 WILL penetrate for sure any car unless its bulletproof against rifles. Also the distance, must have not been that far ... how large is a road here? ...

imho it is staged, or he's dead already. If not ... well, pretty lucky. might as well play with grenades, with such luck he'll come out unscathed.

    Staged????

He shot himself a bullet in the head to discredit Thaksin??? :o:D

The ex Taiwan President stahed his own assassination and that of his vice president to get sympathy votes too

  4. He is doing all the right things like a PM would in any other civilized democratic country.

Social and political change can only come with reforms and not by rioting like what the reds are doing.

Doing all the right things like a PM would in any other civilised democratic country would mean acting as caretaker PM and setting an election date. If he did that, the red shirts would have no excuse to cause trouble.

Agreed. He might have the support of the army but as PM he cannot go against the wishes of the Thai people. To have legitimacy and silence his critics he must call for elections

  5. All the political drama plays out like a low budget Thai TV Soap.....

This is their country (Thai people), while we as westerners may regard the political system here as a Banana Republic.... It is Thier country, and it is only our perception of "normal" that dirrers.

Maybe it is time to abbolish the elected governments and reurn to Absolute Monarchy Rule. :o

That's a great idea....Thaksin (ex thailand's richest man) gave it a shot......perhaps now it's the world richest man's turn to give it a shot
  6. i dont blame them.

they got samak for a cooking show.

they could give the children 10 years for blowing their noses if they wanted to

things are looking to get nasty.

    best to play it safe.

    MC2

This is by far the best post untill now, sums it all up.

Pity most posters here are inept to understand the powerstruggle that is the root cause.

    Go Thaksin.

    MBL

They are not inept, just blinded by their deep hatred for everything Thaksin

  8. 20 years seems unlikely,

but they guy HAS been pushing peoples buttons for some time.

Bound to get a overt reaction sooner or later.

He has had his dual nationality as an escape valve,

and I guess he just thought to go for it.

Personally I thought he could have been more effective

staying here and not going over the top and needing to split.

But he's made his bed now.

Only 10 if he pleads guilty!

He might get a pardon after 3 years

  9. Ex-PM's motive is to likely damage revered monarchy institution: Prem

Ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, declaring yesterday that the goal of his fighting is to remove bureaucratic polity from the country, denied allegations that he intended to sabotage the monarchy institution.

Earlier yesterday, Privy Council President Prem Tinsulanonda said that Thaksin's motive in attacking people who serve His Majesty the King was likely sabotage of the revered institution.

When pressed further to answer whether he believes Thaksin wants to sabotage the monarchy by attacking people who served the King, Prem said "probably''. And when asked how he could prevent that from happening, he said, "(Thaksin) should not say".

Is what Prem said constitute to lese majeste? Privy Council President not withstanding

No I don't think so.But it is fairly evident that his actions and comments may have been very damaging to the institution, sad really.

With more and more Privy council members speaking out, people might get the wrong ideas that they are speaking on behalf of the King. Perhaps that is their intention.

  11. Latest salvo by Sondhi seems to signal all is not well in the anti Thaksin camp.....what comes around goes around

Sondhi always represented or at least tried to represent a different constituency than the bureacracy with different aims. Look at the game class 7 are now playing too. Chamlong was in seven as was Manoonkrit iirc.

What is Chamlong fighting for? He is a supporter of the Santi Asoke sect, he is celibate, a vegetarian, and claims to have no worldly possessions.

  12. Even though there is no universally accepted definition of 'democracy', there are two principles that any definition of democracy includes. The first principle is that all members of the society (citizens) have equal access to power and the second that all members (citizens) enjoy universally recognized freedoms and liberties -from wiki

  13. I am not taking any sides here, but it does seem to me that its a strange type of democracy that when ever you don't agree with the results of an election you try and bring down the elected government! :o

Welcome to Thailand! To sum it up...

The PAD brought down successive elected government and even insisted on their choice of PM. The courts then disbanded the party in power and convicted most of its MPs banning them from politics. They then change the constitution to give an unfair advantage to the other side. The military then pressured MPs to switch side so that the side supported by them can form a coalition and be the govenment.
