  1. Hi,

I just came back from a trip to Bangkok. I was called in by the police just after Ekamai and fined for not having registered the Carryboy installation.

The Carryboy was there when i bought my car, and they did not say anything about it when i renewed the registration last month; they just said that everything was in order.

What colour are your license plates? White or Green?

  2. I'm sure this has been discussed somewhere in this forum, but I can't find it--is anything being done about the limitiations on internet service in Thailand? Or is inadequate bandwidth for high-speed, reliable internet with the rest of the world going to be with us indefinitely?

For the first time in many years we had a major slow down yesterday with our ASDL provider (True). So I rang their call center and asked by my 4mbs line was down to 3600baud?

Within minutes the answer came "We have major problems at the moment with all our Dslam's across Bangkok". The outcome was they reset our port and all is back to normal within minutes. However I take it they are not going out of their way to fix the issues unless you call them.

  3. Whilst it would receive free-to-air channels these are few and far between. The 'free' channels on UBC still require a card and it's a different decoder to that used by Sky (UBC uses IRDETO II).

IMHO not worth bringing, give it away to a friend :o

    The encryption means nothing.

As the OP said free to view channels, and there are many out here on the Ku band, however your Sky box with the original electronics will get about 10 high band satellites depending on where you are located in Thailand and the sort of sky box you have.

You should get free to view channels from these satellites on a small 1.2m offset dish, but very limited content.

    Eutelsat W5

    ABS1

    Telstar 10

    Thaicom 5

ST1 (if you are in southern Thailand)

    Measat 3 (free radio only)

    NSS6

    Asiasat 2 (In northern Thailand)

    NSS11 (In northern Thailand)

    Thaicom 1 (limited feeds mostly)

    Telstar 18 (In northern Thailand)

    Intelsat 8 (In northern Thailand)

Check out Lyngsat for yourself to get a better idea.

If you are in Southern Thailand use your Sky box to subscribe to Astro on Measat 3 as they use a similar NDS encryption as Sky do there in the UK.

  4. If I notice slow speeds I reboot my router/gateway. Usually fixes the problem.

    How do you do that?

    If your modem router has a;

Power switch - turn the power switch off and then back on (rebooted)

No Power switch - pull the power cable out and plug it back in or turn the wall switch off then back on (rebooted)
