  1. ^pics? biggrin.gif

Sounds great. I've got a couple of tattoos and some piercings, but to me they're not really radical, more the norm I think at my age (26). I would love to have to nerve to get an undercut but I'm too chicken. Had my hair various colours- worst time was at school and I had dyed my hair a really dark greeny blue colour and some lads complained that I was allowed to keep my hair that colour when they had previously been expelled for bleaching their hair. I was told to change it or be expelled lol... it was in the middle of my exams so didn't really have a choice. Not being too experienced with colouring hair I decided to try and bleach out the colour and my hair turned bright green so had no option than to put a dark brown dye on it. sad.gif

A few years ago I started getting parts of it bleached and eventually moved onto a full head of almost white blond hair. Decided I wanted to try putting some dark blue lowlights, disaster. When I washed it out of my hair the blue dye basically ran into all my blond and turned turquoise. I was gutted. Only other dye I had was a plum colour so put that in but it was almost neon purple under light and as I washed it got lighter and lighter til it was a shade of lavender. Then got a more natural brown colour put on at the hairdresser. dry.gif

    Here's a couple of pics

this one when I started with some blond patches, loved this

  2. Now I know how expensive air conditioning is, Im a bit worried about the temperature and humidity indoors without it... its a bit worrying because when I was in Bangkok all the buildings were air conditioned.

I think you have to really experience the heat and humidity to get a grasp on how uncomfortable it can be... for me anyway. I've been in Chiang Mai for 3 months (leaving at Christmas back to UK) and although I feel I've gotten more used to the heat (don't need to use aircon now) I just don't like being hot all the time. I actually miss the cool/cold english weather (maybe the only person that does! still, see how I feel when I'm back in the middle of winter) and snuggling up with a blanket while it lashes down outside. I can't walk very far outside here without breaking into a full body sweat- can't imagine going to work everyday here either (unless in an aircon vehicle into an aircon office- never gonna happen). That's just me anyway.

Good luck with what you decide to do, but perhaps you'd be better coming out here with a friend if they're up for it. Definitely think you need to get a decent amount of savings behind you as well smile.gif

  3. I don't really like it cos it just wouldn't suit me... most of the clothes look like what you would dress a doll in which is ok if you're really small and babyfaced smile.gif At first glance some stuff looks ok but when I get closer it's got a load of 'extras' stitched on lol I think Thai girls and a lot of Thai women can pull it off but on the average farang woman I think it would look daft....

  4. It's quite common in the UK to not be allowed to take your own food/drinks into the screen. It's annoying but I can see their point. In future just stuff everything in your wife's bag :) Was the movie good?

  5. Thanks a lot guys I have been one week in Chiang mai so far, and I loved it, the refreshing weather, the people very friendly and the tours, finally ride an elephant jeje, just wanted to say thank you, I have only been in 3 places so far, bangkok, ayathuya and Chiang mai and Chiang mai has been my favorite

Where did you end up staying? smile.gif

  6. I'm hoping someone might be able to recommend an apartment building located just south of the city in the Hai ya area for under 5000b per month. Aircon, tv & fridge not essential. Would prefer a separate shower (either by a curtain or a wall- just not direct onto the toilet) but that would be overlooked if the apartment is otherwise great. Basically just looking for something clean (with a bit more space than you can swing a cat in) with security, parking, wifi & wardrobe.

    Any ideas?:)

  7. Does your Thai partner enjoy watching scary movies? My bf doesn't like anything scary and doesn't even like talking about creepy stuff, especially ghosts! I wasn't sure if it was a common thing amongst thais seeing as how superstitious they can be about things. I plan to rent as many scary movies as possible (oldies if I can get them) and see if I can change his mind. tongue.gif

  8. I've been unable to find anything on google or the chiang mai forum relating to the following apartment buildings, which all appear to be in the Haiya area just south of the city (where I would like to stay). If anyone could give me any info it would be very much appreciated :)

    Hanna Mansion

    H T Apartment

    Prathu Residence

    S&T Residence

    Sema Mansion

    Teraporn Court

  9. I got terribly itchy when I was there last October. Mainly all over my legs to the point where I could hardly sleep because of the itching. I used some powder that I got from a pharmacy (prickly heat powder maybe?) and it would help a bit. The really annoying thing was that areas on my legs where I'd broken the skin by itching took AGES to heal and itched on and off. Saying that my skin tends to be quite sensitive and itches easily anyway, but it seemed much worse in CM. Probably because of the heat?

  10. I'd much rather see a bloke with a bald head than a bloke desperately trying to cling onto the hair he has left :) I don't think there's many haircuts that are worse than bald patch/super receding hairline and hair around the back and sides (thinking George Costanza).

An ex of mine started losing his hair late teens/early twenties and it looked ridiculous unless he bic'd it. Did look a bit thuggish but better than looking 50+ years old.

  11. I don't really understand why some Western men think that Western women have chips on their shoulders while in Thailand. Surely (like the majority of blokes here) they have chosen to stay here?

And a lot are in relationships with Thai men (much cuter overall than Western guys IMO) so why would they care what Western dudes are doing??

Also some posters seem to prefer the idea of a woman not working and just keeping house, tending to their partners 24/7. I would have thought that in the Western world it's pretty obvious that most families couldn't afford to have just one income. And why wouldn't you want your partner to have independence? I don't get it, but then again I am a woman :)

  12. Hehe who are you people trying to convince with your blatant lies? Or are you guys really that daft? TATTOOS = HOOKER in THAILAND. I actually like tattoos! But Im so glad I didnt get any since I decided to move here, Thai people are very judgemental about looks and the generalise you every second they can.

You didn't want to be mistaken as a hooker?

    understandable.

No I didn't want to be perceived as a scummy dirt bag sex tourist alcoholic. That's what all you tattoo covered sleeveless shirt shorts and sandal wearing beer bellied ignoramasus' are arent you? :D Because even if you aren't, that is EXACTLY what you look like to every Thai person you encounter. If you didn't know this you people truly are as stupid as you look. Back in our home countries of course, this would not be the stigma attached with your appearance, but this is Thailand, and to deny it and argue against it is complete and wanton wishful thinking and denial of reality.

That topic you started in the ladies forum a while ago, you mentioned something about having no real friends. Maybe that's because you come across as judgmental and narrowminded :)

Other posters have already pointed out that NOT ALL thai women with tattoos are looked upon as being 'hookers' & plenty have never even stepped into a bar! Have a look on Hi5 or something, there's a LOT of young 'respectable' women showing their tattoos with many positive comments from would you believe, other thai people!

this kind of attitude makes me :D

  13. I just asked my bf about this again and he actually surprised me by saying if I want to get another tattoo it's up to me and he doesn't mind if I don't discuss it with him first. And this is from a bloke who says he doesn't like tattoos. Guess he loves me regardless :)

I think a lot of it depends on if it's done well (by a good artist!). I think most people would be able to appreciate good art when they see it.

  14. I've got a couple of tattoos (got them prior to being in my current relationship) and I'm always thinking about getting more, I just can't afford to right now. My current bf (thai) doesn't like tattoos very much. He doesn't mind that I have some (nothing he can do about it!) and knows that I want more. I would definitely speak to him about what I was planning when the time comes and ask his opinion which would probably be "up to you". I don't think I would just go and get one without mentioning it because I'd like him to know.

If I had enough money I would probably have my whole left arm covered in tattoos (I have a tattoo which takes up about half of the inside of my forearm), but that's more to do with the fact that I have a lot of scarring (due to self-harm in the past) and it's a bit of a toss up but I think tattoos would be judged less harshly than a load of scars. I try to cover up when in LOS despite the heat as I'm not 100% comfortable being 'on show' even though my bf says he doesn't care.

What would it mean if you knew he did not like tattoos and you got one without talking to him about it?

He would probably think I didn't care about his feelings. But like someone else mentioned before some Thai people might not think it's too big a deal to discuss something first.
