  1. Another website has been able to get a response. Due to forum rules I cannot supply a link but if you put the quote below into Google you should find it.

    quote

An explaination. Friend had managed (after much effort) to contact someone 'at the top' of CMULI and was told that 'Thai Immigration had a suspicion that CMU was selling ED-visas to farangs not attending the courses and stopped all visas to students from CMU, not only language students. Many existing students have now illegal residence permit status as their visa could not be extended. It was a mess. Besides that there was a relevant change in administration staff at CMULI and the new employees are just not yet familiar with the daily business. Up to now they have a backlog of some 200-300 students waiting for their visa paperwork so the staff is completely overstrained. This might be why I got not answers to my emails.

Now there was a inspection at CMULI by Thai Immigration and they agreed that all documentation is correct and Visa will be issued again starting next Wednesday, 8. September.'

Friend was 'guaranteed that the course in November will be running and I will get the visa papers by end of next week (he would put my name somewhere on the top of the backlog). And of course I get a full refund if my Visa is refused.'

All of this may not be the most comforting news, but it is good to know what exactly is going on...just incase I have to change tack. CMULI is still advertising their four Thai Language courses as including a one year visa.

  2. I've enrolled and paid my deposit from abroad, due to start in November. I'm REALLY interested to find out what's going on.

My advice to you, IF indeed you're in your home country and have documentation from CMU for their year long thai language course is:

Apply for a Multi Entry Year Long Non-Immigrant Type-ED Visa. Even students with documentation from private thai language schools (which is quite different from real university's paperwork) can usually secure that type of visa at their home country's Thai Embassy or Consulate.

With that type of visa you don't need to extend it in country every 90 days. Every 90 days you just cross any border, and re-enter, getting another 90 days automatically. Plus if you do it one last time before the visa expires, you get another 90 days, making your stay here almost 15 months.

I'd seriously check into that option if I were you (which I'm not, but just saying. ;) .)

As an aside, I tried that number for CMU's Thai Language Study Program a coupla more times today but no one answered. Sadly no one 'returned my call, despite the guys assurance someone would, go figure. :( ..

Thanks for your suggestions. I am indeed still in my home country but leave in 7 weeks. I don't have any documentation as yet, other than a receipt for my deposit which was paid quite some time ago. CMULI advised from the beginning that my Visa docs will get underway in early September...so fingers crossed. I'm keeping my eyes glued to this forum.

If you are in Australia I suggest you contact your state's consumer protection body. As the transaction occured as a result of a website viewed in Australia it is covered by state consumer protection laws. They will want you to write to them with a complaint and they will contact CMU eventually. You may have difficulty recovering the money in Australia however CMU may begin to realizwe the international ramefications of their apparent actions (or inaction)

In the context of this topic it is acceptable to mention the name of the director of the Thai Language Institute of Chiang Mai University. It is most likely public information anyway.

P.S. I did a Google search and found this but do not know if the information is current:

    Dr. Matthew John Kay

    Director

    International Programs

    Language Institute

    Chiang Mai University

    Source: http://www.teflcmu.com/aboutus.html

The Australian company/individual which/who was marketing the CMU LI programs is still selling CMU LI programs with a 1-year ED visa through its/his website:

    http://www.teflcmu.com/select-tefl-package.html

Is this company/individual still associated with CMU LI?

Nowhere on ay website, document rceipt or any other official idication does it indicate people are dealigwith a company. Everything idicates that they are dealing with CMU directy and i fact are students of CMU. CMU may have contracted with a company to run these programs but as far as the student is concerned they are dealing with CMU. I elieve with the Language institure there may be two or possibly three diferent companies, One handling the TEFL and short Thai Courses and another handling the One year Thai programs and possibly a third dealing with te Volunteer program. To the student however he/she is still dealig with CMU.

  4. I had a lot of respect for the Beginner and Intermediate Thai Courses I did at CMULI. I had some concerns about the running but not the teaching of the One year thai course I did there. I however under no circumstances would consider the new conditions that have swuddenly appeared on their revised website. I would not enter any contract under these conditions and condider that in most contries they would not be legal. CMU is/was a reputable organisation please return to that.

    j. The Chiang Mai University Language Institute reserves the right to

Change/alter the syllabus/curriculum as deemed necessary at anytime

    Change/alter the schedule/timetable

    Cancel the program

Withdraw discount/free offers at the discretion of the Course Director

    Change/alter final certificate completion

Without recourse from the enrolled student.

  5. As the parent of 3 single children, may I suggest that you both consider a second child in the not too distant future. Kids love to have company.

Is it possible to have Double children ;) or just that you have never had twins.

    3 kids, 3 wives, the 2nd of 4 didn't get pregnant.

It is good they took after their mothers isn't it. :ermm:

  6. Brian, I am sorry you found the forum members upsetting. You had a friend who you cared about and having met him I know he was worth caring for. Yes this forum , and much of the world unfortunately has the attitude that people get what they deserve and express it strongly. Some of them do not share this opinion. I agree your not being a native english speaker sometimes makes it a little easy for misunderstandings to occur. Your housewarming seems to have been a ig disapointment. Sadly I was unable to arrange a trip from CM with just two days notice and I am sure that this applied to many there who also had pre-existing commitments including the hash. I would like to have a cup of coffee with you sometime but I do not know when I will be able to. When I come to CR I have family commitments too. I think you should just take it as it comes. The one person on this forum who I had thought I did not want to meet because of among other things what he said to you in the forum (Limbo) but I have been assured by others he is not really like that and I see that you also seem toaccept he is OK.

I do hope to meet you and others in CM over the next few years but it will be a slow process and that is not just because I am not moving there for a while but just visit every month or so.

  7. A black and white 1963 movie being shown on a flight/ What a cheep airline.:whistling:

Well they may have shown it on the plane shown in the film but nowhere does the OP say the film was shown in a plane that he was in.

  8. Kukrit the ex Thai Prime Minister also featured in this film.

Here is an extract from his Encyclopedia entry.

Thai politician, writer, and actor (b. April 20, 1911, Phitsanulok, Thailand--d. Oct. 9, 1995, Bangkok, Thailand), saw life imitate art when he became prime minister of Thailand several years after portraying the leader of a fictitious Southeast Asian country in the Marlon Brando film The Ugly American (1963). The son of a prince, Kukrit had the title Mom Rajawong. He was educated in Thailand and England and graduated from Queens College, Oxford, with a degree in politics, philosophy, and economics. When he returned to Thailand, he worked in the Finance Ministry and the

Interestingly it was Kukrit who oversaw the departure of American forces from Thailand after the Vietnam war.

  9. It is sad CMU has let this happen. Too much emphasis on marketing. They did have an excellent product with their TEFL and short Thai Courses but had to jump on the visa bandwagon. Strangely CMU does not only teach Thai at its Language Institute, Education also teaches it but is less well known. CMU has many good points but it has allowed the profit at all costs to affect it.

  10. Kandahar-Samsung Model C139STF is a Microwave Oven that converts easily to a conventional oven.

I can not say enough good things about this oven as it not only does regular things that both oven and micro do but it has grill and convection modes as well.

The 4 pieces that need to be changed to use the oven and or microwave are easily interchangeable in 10 seconds.

Yes the thermostat works wonderfully from 100c to 240c at 20c increments.

Very nice stainless steel housing and the implements are also of top quality.

    It has :

    Digital display with clock

    Standing time setting button

    Auto defrost

    Junior/snack mode

    Auto reset feature mode

    Auto cook feature mode

    Preheat selection mode

    Stop/cancel button

Language mode selection (yes Thai and English)

Full 47 page instruction book in both English and Thai.

All modes are easily done with one nob that is backlit by led

    Dimensions: 56cm wide - 32cm high - 46cm deep (Large enough for a 10kg bird)

We purchased it 3 years ago at Siam TV in CM for 10,000 tb and it has never given us any trouble just keeps on cooking.

If you would like to look at it here are a few pictures.

if you would like top come by the next time in town for a closer look PM me and I can send you directions to our home

Sorry about the double posts gentlemen ...I have tried UNSUCCESSFULLY to delete one. Next time I will not be so hasty !

Just for that you will have to tell us when you next have a large roast cooking so we can all come.

  11. You will need a letter from your language school as well stating that you ended your language course because your visa is related to Education.

for the rest, follow Lopburi 3's instructions.

    WG

I do not think this is correct. You are permited to study on a Retirement extension however working is not permited.

  12. next question, what happens now?

also when they were about to install this technology they said that it could only detect the vehicle not the driver so be sure you don't lend your vehicle to anyone. being innocent is no defence it seems so i am interested to know what happens in your case.

    all the best.

    al

:cheesy: Pretty much sums up local law enforcement

It is the same in most countries where parking tickets , speed cameras or red light cameras exist. The owner of the vehicle is charged unless he can produce the driver who must admit he/she was driving.

  13. Glass is way better. But those little bottles of Coke zero thry sell in Macro are way to heavy to carry upstairs. I generally have to settle for drinking the plastic bottle stuff in a glass glass. Improves the taste a bit.
