Q. I have been out of the country [OZ ] for a few years, but still have a house [ rented ] a bank account, drivers lic, PO box, etc. and am still traveling on my NZ passport, but I am a OZ citizen, If I apply for my OZ passport 1 or 2 years before I apply for my OAP, and my new OZ pp shows say , just one 7 day trip abroad because I am still using a NZ pp. Do you think C/L would be wise to the real facts. Assuming I forgot [ lie] when I apply for the pension, about trips o/s
and I use my new OZ pp for one of the documents needed when applying?
Australia likes jailing houswives for not declaring a few dollars income....they call it Social Security fraud. You could always try your luck....free board and loging and you can probably live better in an Australian jail than in Australia on a pension.

I am sorry to hear this as although I too am not a pub person and have only been there on the night of the TV party I could see that they had worked hard and had succeeded in providing a great environment andbase for the people of ChiangMai.
Both of them are real proffesionals in their business and I am sorry all their good work has not been able to be sold but sadly I think this may be becauise they have been too good.....few could live up to the standard they set.
I wish them well for the future.

If Matthew was shouting he must have been very very angry. Matthew is a person who I have really respected and knows how to interact with Thais better than most. It is sad CMU or a section of it has done this. This will filter back to overseas Unis as many of the students are ex university students in their own countries and may affect CMUs ability to have exchanges. I wish Matt well and hope he can get things going with the new university. He deserves respect CMU is another issue.

If this is the case and the arabgement with FEU does not work out it may be time for people to lodge a payment dispute with the credit card company. THis may at least force some action from CMU.

Look into the customs situation in Thailand regarding the trains. It may prove non viable.

I am very familiar with the supermarket in question, and from what I can tell from the packaging. this looks like a product that wasn't manufactured by the supermarket at all, but came from an outside supplier. So why is this supermarket being held accountable for the bad practices of an outside supplier? I could understand it if this posting targeted the supplier. That would make sense. But this seems a way of taking a cheap shot at a company that has extraordinarily high standards. It's one of the best supermarkets I've been to anywhere in the world. I know for a fact they they have high level staff constantly on patrol checking for quality. Still, is it reasonable to expect them to examine each and every package that comes into the store?
Also, on a few occasions when I have detected a problem, I contacted the manager who very graciously received the info and acted immediately to correct the problem. I wouldn't even know where to find the manager of rival supermarkets. I don't understand why the person who started this thread didn't notify the management of the supermarket but instead chose to publicize it to all and sundry. I am sure that, had they been notified, the management would have dealt very severely with whoever it is that manufactures this product.
The seller of e product is responsible forthe goods in his shop. It is up him to take it up with his supply chain.

Thanks harry, but I have been dealing with IUS, the company Matthew works (ed) for - I heard he quit a week or so ago.
Contact him at FEU...There has been a lot of misinformation given by CMU here.

I just got back from the IUS office at CMU with rather disappointing news.
I was stuck in a limbo state for a few weeks, where after my first 90days on my ED visa had expired, I was unable to renew it because the director at CMU would not sign the necessary letter. I was informed by IUS staff not to worry because we would have our visas processed through FEU. I was told to overstay my visa for a few days until everything with FEU was sorted out and filled out the necessary paper work for the application to FEU. After a week, I was told to go to CM immigration, where I applied for a 7 day extension and payed 5400 baht (2k ext + 3.4k overstay) and was told I would be reimbursed for those expenses. I then went to the IUS office at CMU and gave a staff member there my passport, which she said she was going to bring to immigration the next day. 4 days later, on Sunday, I stopped into the IUS office again and was told that everything should be ready Wednesday. When I asked if my visa would be affected because my 7 day extension expired on Wednesday, I was told that it wouldn't. Well I went in today and was informed that my visa could not be renewed. The staff at IUS said they had been on the phone with CM immigration all morning to try to figure out why our visas weren't accepted, but they kept getting the run around and were eventually told it had something to do with a letter of approval which the IUS staff claimed was bogus. They said they suspect CMU played a major role in immigration not issuing our visas. I was also informed that the classes would be dismantled at that all the IUS staff had been fired. When I asked whether or not I would be reimbursed the 6mo left I had remaining in the course, I was told I would not. The reason given was that IUS claimed they have ran out of money from the course and that CMU took 60% of the revenue from the course and isn't reimbursing IUS with any of it. The IUS staff did inform me that they would try to reimburse me for the 5.4k of the initial expenses they promised to cover. But given how this has played out so far, I'm not holding my breath.
I presume you have been dealing with CMU.
I suggest you get in touch with Mathew Kay at the number given on a previous post as he claims to have gone to outstanding effort to recover the mess caused by CMU cancelling all programs. He has aparently moved everything to FEU so it is worth contactting him and advising us of your results here.

I don't like racism but I love the way Thailand is completely non PC, in the UK they band golliwog's which to me had no racist intent whatsoever.
Thailand would doubtfully ban such a toy.
Probably England does not want their girls taking a black doll to bed.

So Harry you told me in an earlier post they "can't spend a single day out of the country", but then you go onto say they can go out of the country so long as they have spent the previous two years in Australia, is that the previous two years prior to applying or the first two years after applying.
Just trying to clarify
cheers
As far as I have been able to determine it is a full two years after receiving the pension or you can leave straight away if you were in Australia for 2 years before applying. THe Centrelink site www.centrelink.gov.au gives information under the international tab. Of special interest is the newsletter for australian penioners overseas downloadable from the site. One of them in the last few months gave a good coverage of this.

Monk faces defrocking over allegations
By The Nation
Phra Pramote Pramocho will be defrocked if investigation proves that he has been having intimate relations with his wife who is now a nun, Bangkok monastic chief inspector Phra Rattana Methee said yesterday.
Phra Rattana said if women set up residence in the area secluded for monks, then they were both in automatic violation of the celibacy code and were subject to disciplinary action on three levels - lightest, medium punishment and the ultimate penalty - defrocking.
"We need to launch an immediate investigation before we can tell if there is any violation of the code. Phra Pramote living close to his wife [turned nun] is regarded as 'extremely inappropriate' and I recommend an immediate scrutiny," the chief inspector said.

Are we talking here of people who leave on a "holiday", shortly after being granted the OAP, or those who pack their bags and set off for good?
I'm fairly sure I've known of people who retire @ 65, get the OAP and then take an O/S trip, without any penalty other than the pension being stopped whilst they are away O/S.
If they spend LESS than 13 weeks away, they (I think) then need to simply re-apply for the pension to re start. If they spend MORE than 13 weeks away, the re-application is a tad more complicated but the pension is reinstated shortly afterward.
Those on Centrelink "Newstart" who go overseas come under this same less than or more than 13 week rule, thus a fairly simple re application on return for less than 13 weeks, or more complicated re application if away for more than 13 weeks, even one day over!
I'm certainly no expert on this and Harry, you seem to have distinct knowledge of the subject. But if what you say in the few posts above is true, it's without doubt a real and definite denial of normal human rights, even allowing for the fact that Centrelink is involved.
If they have been in Australia constantly for the two years before they apply they may leave otherwise they have to wait 2 full years..restarting at each break.

Thanks tod_d..... From what I've seen posted recently I do believe you do really know what your talking about in these matters.
I'm not currently in that crowd, but as the Bible says," Those that have eyes, let them see; and they that have ears, let them hear.". Having both of those facilities myself, I can predict that it is very likely that in a short while the requiremwnts for ED visa will be strictly scrutinised, and followed to the letter by immigration. Did all of you scuba people down in Phuket "studying" for your PADI cetificate on ED visa in Thailnd hear that warning?
Probably not, don't think they read TV that much....but maybe one or two do.
Hopefully, that's a 'word to the wise'.
One or two of them are CMULI students
-
However, all their marketing and advertising (including their banner link on this website) directs customers to their CMU LI website. People believe they are buying a CMU LI product but they are not. They will actually be buying an ISU product run from rooms at Far Eastern University. Why isn't this made clear to 'customers' before they pay their money?
I think this a transitional move and the websites have yet to be updated fully. I am sure in future it will say FEU. It seems Matthew has been rather busy lately so the website hiccups are understandable.
As far as it being a ISU product it has always been this but with the CMU name. I took it that CMU had contracted them to run the program when I found out and felt that I was doing CMU courses probably only half true but it is the same situation.
Again Matthew deserves congratulations on his efforts to keep the program alive and take responsibility for his students...Something CMU apparently did not do.

just like in the high priced joints where you select your own fish, just taken to a new dimension
Less customers higher prices.....get them to catch their own food....and then cook it themselves.
