  1. Strongly recommend you bring a copy of your "fully loaded" hard disk, backed up with the appropriate software, in order to restore your PC. You must be self-sufficient here if you are a Mac user.

This is close to my suggestion, which would be to remove and hand carry the hard drive, of course having done a comprehensive backup before travel. As implied, plan to bring a copy of your OS and other software in on CD.

Would it be ok to take the motherboard and hard drives and graphic card out of the case and just bring them. Buying a case and power supply locally should be a lot cheaper than the excess baggage.

  2. Maybe I should clarify this ....and it is why I did not post in the Real Estate forum. I am not asking about individual condos but general advice about which condo buildings may be suitible.

I would also like it if anyone with any experience of wheelchairs in CM could help. Best answer may get a beer when I get there....after all it is not my pockets that aee so long or my arms too short just my leg:)

  3. I use a wheelchair and am considering moving to CM soon. If anyone could post a list of condos which can be accessed by wheelchair I would appreciate it.

By accessible I mean that I can get from street/carpark to the lift. I do not need full facilities. I am interested in long term however any advice about temporary suitible accomodation would help too.

  4. not wearing bike helmets when its law to do so.

smoking in bars and restaurants when its now law not to.

Turning into one way streets( top end of soi green mango comes to mind)

Riding motor bike against the flow of traffic for convenience sake.

These are just a few that comes to mind, can you list some more.Personally i love this quirkyness, does n't bother me at all but i could see it might anoy others.

How good is the new ghost road?I know not part of topic but i went down there the other night quick fast(without helmet!)far cry from a year ago when it looked like a WW1 battle field.

THis sounds a lot like Perth./

  5. I presume these were the wheelchair accessible busses anounced a couple of years ago by the mayor to which i refered to in a previous post requesting information.

I guess this was "vapor ware" which is a pity as it would have expanded my options.

A Thai teenager incensed that he could not afford to play the violent computer game Grand Theft Auto has robbed and stabbed dead a taxi driver.

The 18-year-old high school student, whose name was withheld, was arrested on Sunday after police found the bloody body of a 50-year-old Bangkok taxi driver slumped in his car.

"He confessed that he committed the crime because he had copied it from the game he played," said Bangkok police Captain Veerarit Pipatanasak.

The teenager was charged with robbery and possession of a weapon, and could face the death penalty or life imprisonment if convicted, Veerarit said.

"He wanted money to play the game. His parents, who work as civil servants, did not have enough money to give him," he added.

Instead, the teenager spent his 500 baht ($A16) allowance on two knives.

The Grand Theft Auto computer game series, which has sold about 70 million copies, has come under fire for its graphic depiction of casual violence, drug dealing and prostitution.

  7. As someone who has been away from Thailand for many years although planning to return in a few months to retire this has been an interesting topic to read through.

It sure has changed my thoughts of buying a condo, I will have to rent for sure.

I must say that stopvt is someone I admire, a real bulldog who fights for what he wants.

Of course it may all be in vain as City Hall is planning the embankment for the road along the coast in front of vt7 to be raised so that the building hight will only be 14m. of course this wilol enable the height of the building to be raised so more condos can be sold. Pity that they wont have a view either.

  9. I will be retiring to Chiang Mai soon and will need an automatic van or mpv as I am a left leg amputee. Scooters in Perth are even more dangerous than there :o .

As I need an electric wheelchair ( I know they are of limited use there ) a van is esential. It must also be automatic.

I have checked the websites and know most of what is available and will probably be toyota or MU-7.

I notice there are few comments about vans on the forum. Are there any more dificulties for foreigners for them than for cars.

Also I see there are waiting lists can anyone tell me how long .

If anyone has any knowledge of hoists or ramps there let me know please.

    Regards

    Harry

  10. I saw on a website the statement that a bus in Pattaya caters for people with wheelchairs. Is this true. Any other advice on travelling with a wheelchair (electric) or a standard wheelchair appreciated.

  11. If you are talking about passport running without the owner those days of official indifference ended some years ago and any such activity these days is not something done in the open or without consequences.

No never did agree with that. I mean a proper legal kind of agent who would provide things like translation services, provide people to go with you to assist in beuraucracies and handle needs like guarantees etc. I think the one I used was mainly used by Japanese comanies however I know it was well repected by immigration and other departments.

  12. Some 30 years ago I used to live in Bangkok and my visa and other administrative problems were handled by a company in the Nippon Paint office. The gentleman was Mr Iso. As I am hoping to return shortly on a Retirement visa could anyone tell me if they still exist and if possible their contact details.

Hope to see some of you in person soon
