  1. Good, might be a good opportunity to rid the country of these pests and hopefully it might cross to the canine population and also deplete or drastically reduce these pests at the same time.

What a small minded person you must be. If everybody would have a mindset like you we would soon have no people on this planet.

You act as if it is the fault of the cats that there are so many (some like dogs) here in Thailand. If the Thai authorities would spend a little of their time and a little of the taxpayers' money these problems could be dealt with easily. It’s the result of years of mismanaging this country and having priorities in the wrong place.

People like you certainly don't make a better world.

Please expand on your thesis between cats and dogs and no people on this planet, should make for an interesting discussion. You might also like to discuss the link between unchecked diseased cats and dogs running wild over most of Thailand and small minded people, and while you are at it, can you advise if small minded people are similar to those people who wear blinkers throughout their life.

I guess he means that the death of cats and dogs would be elimination of a key food source for Asia.

  2. Japan is one of the countries leading the region in justice? Stroll on, even if you did not commit the crime there, you could be liable to having your collar felt. That justice is swift there is all to do with nailing someone and looking good. No thanks. And Singapore; as clean and swish as it is, drop some litter or eat food on the MRT, then look out. No thanks. Australia, no thanks. rolleyes.gif

We all have opinions but I enjoy the cleanliness of Singapore smile.png And there are those well known "Litter Police" stings in Bangkok- drop a piece of trash and you are fined 2,000 baht.

In Pattaya I see the local government upgrading the storm sewers; however, they seem to quickly fill up and become blocked with trash.

Some enforcement/civil obedience is no more than consideration for others.Have you crossed the street at a pedestrian crossing (Zebra stripes) lately and have all the drivers yield to you? Yeah, I know the retort "I've lived here for 10+ years and never had a problem in Thailand..."

Yes but what is the most worrying thing? IMHO it is the abysmal civil justice score - couldn't really be much worse could it. Having attended a few cases involving foreigners in the past 12 months I can honestly say the courts are horrendously biased, corruption is endemic on the face of it if you cannot trust police to write a report correctly, take care of the case papers, not tip off the other side then who do you turn to? The lawyers are at the same game sacrificing your case for a small corruption payment and if you are foreign you are most unlikely to pick it up.. The police won't even make an arrest without a bribe even if you present the criminal with a valid court arrest warrant; I cannot see why any country would entice businesses to invest here when there is little to no chance of getting justice. How would you ever enforce a contract - the most basic of business transactions.

You would think the Embassies might be making some attempt at enlightening their businesses to avoid this place like the plaque. Plague being a good word - a plague of corruption and a civil justice system that has been abrogated to corrupt groups.

Most embassy staff have two goals:

    Today- collect a paycheck

    Tomorrow- collect a fat pension

Speaking of misjustice, there is a video of an Australian couple that were on a motorbike and hit from behind by a local motorbike driver. The lady died three hours later and the police tried to get the Australian man to admit that he was at fault... really sad!

    http://news.ninemsn.com.au/national/2012/11/27/17/27/thai-police-tried-to-blame-boyfriend-for-womans-death

PS- The Australian guy received his pass port back after six days, so hats off to the Oz government if they were the responsible for his release. The local that caused the accident was never brought to justice. Shameful!

Wow, I see stories like that and I say let the primate acting fools run their country into the ground. Perhaps they do deserve a civil war. Karma can be a butch and Thai fools are building plenty of that up.

I mainly go to Thailand because my wife is Russian and it is much better climate than Siberia for spending a month with the inlaws.

Russia is messed up because of the mafia, but stories like this lead me to believe that Thailand is worse than Russia because thus is the people designed to protect you. They are more despicable than the Russia mafia who at least has no pretenses as to what they do and are about.

  3. "Thailand earns high marks on absence of crime and effectiveness of the criminal justice system (ranking fifth globally and seventh among its income peers)"

    Is that even possible???

i was thinking the same thing,...maybe somebody has recieved a little brown envelope to put thailand up so high, i dont believe they could be so high on any list concerning justice and the law

Wouldn't income peer group be smaller than global group? How could you be 7th out of subset of global when your 5th if every country is counted?

  4. "The victim lost his head and suffered deep cuts..."

Am I the only one who finds this turn of phrase very unfortunate?

I think it means he acted irrationally.

He sees a huge Tiger and instead of thinking 'I need to change my underwear as soon as I get in' he contemplates supper and a pair of tiger skin flip flops.

Then, and this is where the irrationality comes in, he started making the Thai equivalent of 'here kitty, kitty, kitty' at which the tiger warned him with a few scratches. Followed by the deep cuts.

Then again I could be wrong.

You see, there's the 'american' english to consider. Whereby, 'head' would take on a completely different meaning. For example, the man could have been installing a toilet, which the tiger made off with. hence, losing his 'head.' Or, and there is another possibility although on this family forum, especially in family orientated Pattaya, I don't really like to broach the meaning of 'head' in a sexual reference.

But there you go. that's life. Or, in this case death by tiger. Not an uncommon fact for many bar dwellers in Pattaya.

At least no animals were harmed in the slaying of one thai man whose family no doubt embrace it being his time.

Personally, I think it's about time we had another man bites dog story.

Dang, I want some if what your smoking. On second though, I actually don't.

  5. Yeah, that sucks. I think the 44 people poached per day by whacked out SA homeboys is more news worthy. These animals recently beat a father with golf clubs and machetes, two attackers raped his wife, they then shot both and decided to torture their twelve year old boy by blooming him in hot water until he died. I think the SA homeboys have one upped the Chinese poachers as far as reprehensible people.

  6. Do these politicians not realize how silly they look? Of course, the majority of the world could care less about what they're doing, and pay no attention to them whatsoever. But still, don't these people realize how their actions are perceived as utterly silly and, as such, incompetent, they appear to the world at large? Of course, they think they are important, but to the world at large, they rank very low, yet they haven't a clue about how they are perceived by the world at large. Driven by egos, they overestimate their importance. It's not only on the national level, but even on the local level. One very close friend of mine was paid $80 USD to vote for one local government candidate this week. They told me they were going to vote for that candidate anyhow, but since they were offered money, they took it. I would too! That persons neighbor, who is running for the opposition local government, is another corrupt individual who is in it for the money. When the second to the PM (don't know what this is called in Thailand, but akin to being a Vice President???) came to my neighborhood during the elections of 2011, this neighbor flat out told him, "How much will you pay me? I'll get you votes." I heard this myself, and was verified by my friend who was also on site. It's entertaining to watch as a foreigner, but also sadly tragic to witness. I wish, hope and pray that Thailand one day will actually have a government that truly represents the people, a government by the people, for the people, of the people. As it is now, well........

Small town red neck issues. I know several judges, politicians and local business men recently got convicted in Kentucky for vote buying.

  7. The sooner these law-makers stop trying to impeach each other and start trying to govern and improve the country and its political system the better...

The longer these Muppet's (both sides) keep playing childish play-ground tit-for-tat games like this the longer this wonderful country will suffer and the deeper is will spiral down the pit of oblivion!

Been thinking same. The only people wasting more time living in the problem than the politicians are the posters on here. If Abihist spent like 20 percent of the time he spends on his witch hunt crusade doing his job . . . . Thai politics cannot address any real issues or agendas because they spend so much time focusing on discrediting the other side.

  8. The chinese have been working on this for years. This is great news for them. It means they can actually deploy an aircraft carrier now.

US and GB has had aircraft carriers for how long? Not like China will be able to position theirs in any place that could be considered tactically advantageous. The key now is technology of weaponry systems. US, Great Britian and Israel could take J-15s down miles before their weapons are within range of our planes. US could also take their carrier out before they even get a launch of their planes fully underway.

As mentioned, carriers are good for conflicts with small countries like Iran, Iraq, and Syria. Carrier great for national pride I suppose.

  9. . . . or one could say, that relasing them without fformal charges was a good faith gesture on the part of Yingluck to circumvent further devisiveness. No need to create more martyr-like issues resulting from prosecution of these guys. The fact that all were let go supports the intuitive forward thinking explanation. Otherwise, they could charge some or all of the protesters regardless of their actions in an effort to save face. A small group of you guys are going to complain, criticize or condemn whether they were charged or let go irregardless of the circumstances.

Are you suggesting that politicians have influence over judicial proceedings here?

And your suggesting they don't. Shall I provide examples.

The point of the quoted text was to demonstrate other posibilities in response to Manic. The reality is that we are all speculating as to why they were released. Those such as Bucholz, Baerbox and yourself are apparently only able to acknowledge or believe a version that provides you with another reason to complain or criticize.

  10. Haha, that's old news. I worked for Courts 15 to 17 years ago.

I thought the summary would be intersting tid bits about how things work at a Supreme Court level given his statement.

I am also always happy to show off or bragg about my hot wife .

    Blimey...

Haha, well said and to the point.

  11. No worries. Think what you like. I guess if you don't believe that I am a lawyer you definitely won't believe that beautiful blonde in my avatar is my hot young Russian wife and she us sitting in HER car I gave her . . .

I actually also did a year clerkship with intermediate court of appeals before being offered a clerkship with the Justice.

    .....

For a "Lawyer" you've sure been suckered into giving your life story away online....

Have a care pal. There are lot of jealous oddballs on here...

  12. Haha, there he goes again with the barb wire made us do it excuse. Yep those protesters saw that barb wire and were driven to the brink of insanity causing them to get violent, cut the barb wire and charge the police. Yeah, I agree that if the cops did not bring the barb wire the protesters would have not felt the need to cut through it and charge the police.

Now the number of police present made the protesters act like thugs and try to incite violence. I agree that if there were only 10 cops there the protesters would have been in their best behaviour and would have never attempted to over run 10 cops.

So your lesson to the government is that you guys cannot have peaceful protests if there is barb wire present and a lot of cops there. You guys see barb wire and cops everywhere will lose it and act like thugs.

I am sure if they promise to act nice next time Yingluck will use paper machette barricades and assign the 10 hottest female traffic cops as the security.

I sincerely hope you are not a Teacher?

Haha, way more educated than that. I did teach Legal Methods, a legal writing course as an adjunct professor in 95 and 96. Nit my day job though. That was writing opinions for a stare supreme court justice at that time.

iPhones just make me sound smarter than I is.

Let me say as nicely as possible,I am extremely underwhelmed,at even the remotest possibility of such an infinitesimal unlikelihood of your claims to fame, given by one such as yourself, of such limited, writing and cognisance abilities.

Keep up your Supreme Court Justice writing opinions, which is where I feel your best improvement can be made.

But don't be disheartened, opinions are not what they used to be!

Oh! by the way, why: doesn't the "Supreme Court Justice" form it's own opinions???

The Supreme Court in that state has 5 Justices. Each justice has a staff attorney and a clerk. The staff attorney is supposed to be a more permanent position and the clerk is to rotate every year. I was hired as a Staff Attorney assigned to a Justice.

There are also maybe 5 other staff attorneys not assigned to Justices. They primarily review Rule 11 applications for permission to appeal. The then draft a bench brief or memo on it with their recommendations as to whether to grant. Tales two justices voting to grant for court to hear case. The exception is death penalty cases are all mandatory review.

There are several other staff attorneys that are the death penalty experts. They compose the majority of the death penalty opinions and then the opinions are circulated to the justices. There is communication during drafting between us assigned to the justices and the death penalty staff attorneys during drafting to see if agreement, concurring or dissenting opinions will be necessary.

I composed all opinions, separate concurring opinions and dissents for my Justice. Obviously, the justice would read and make changes or revisions deemed appropriate before circulating. Cases were assigned after oral argument and spread around to areas of expertise or interst on a pro rata or equal distribution basis.

The other clerk primarily proofed my stuff and wrote or proofed workers compensation panel opinions. Those panels were comprised of one Justice and two special judges, generally trial judges or senior status judges.

I have probably drafted about 50 appellate court and Supreme Court opinions that are in publication in print. Most of them have very little revisions to what I originally wrote. Bug difference in time u spend typing post on iPhone and something I do for work. I only go back and edit when typos or autocorrects are so bad I have no idea what I am saying.

  13. What a nice picture for our friend Buscholtz who were asking yesterday if we had any proof that it was actually the protestors who were responsible for the violence during the demonstration.

    What a thoughtless statement.

It was the protesters fault had nothing to do with the fact that they were protesting against the government.

The big question for some who are slow is why did the police send so many anti riot police to the demonstration and try to box them in to a small area with barb wire, They came prepared to provoke it.

Have they ever used any where near these tactics on the red shirt demonstrators. Of course not they did not want to turn them into violent situations.

It dosen't take a rocket scientist to figure that out. First the Government whips up fear of violence by claiming plans to kill there leader then they discover plans to kidnap Yingluck and others.

Some times I wonder if other countries have the same low standard of education as Thailand their posts would indicate it.

Haha, there he goes again with the barb wire made us do it excuse. 14. no need to shout, i have good vision and can read.

i guess you're missing the point of my comment, what i meant is, it took longer than a day for the red protests to turn violent.

My highlighting was for emphasis, that whatever cooked up charges had been applied by the Police, was not enough to get a conviction,in other words trivial, and not worth the risk of being shown up in Court as nonsense charges!

Come on Nerofiend! you are a long term poster on Thai Visa, and you know very well the Red Shirts were Terrorists, that held Bangkok and Thailand to Ramsom for 2 months + . So there is no comparison with yesterdays protest march, which was severely hampered by Police that would not lift a finger to stop the Red Shirts burning Bangkok, and all they did was Buddy up to the Thugs in Red in 2010,a fact that you and ttelise conveniently ignore to suit your flimsy arguments.

Come on Nerofiend! you are a long term poster on Thai Visa, and you know very well the Red Shirts were Terrorists

no actually i don't think that, and you spelt my name wrong.

i don't know what flimsy argument i'm supposed to making here, i'm just telling it like it is, i can't be blamed if you read a lot more into my words than are actually there, or conjur up arguments that i'm making that actually exist in your head, not mine.

Something about leading a camel to water . . . comes to mind. Blinded by passion, prejudice or something I cannot put my finger on unless shills for a propoganda agenda. No reasoning with whatsoever.

  15. Aah now we have strict law enforcement AND over the top police action. Over a hundred arrests within a few hours after the rally kicked of. If the rally would have prolonged for let's say 2 weeks, how many people would have been arrested 10,000? 20,000? All?

Nobody sees any double standards here?

It seems like the arrests by the Police were just token gestures on trivial offences, otherwise why did the police let 137 free, without charging them?

. . . or one could say, that relasing them without fformal charges was a good faith gesture on the part of Yingluck to circumvent further devisiveness.

I'm not complaining that they were let go,merely that they were probably let go in the first place, because of a triviality, you can bet your life if this government had some evidence against these protesters they would have been delighted to see some prosecutions.

i.e probably lack or real solid evidence,or anything of real legal importance! and please don't give me the Bleeding Heart stuff about "good faith gestures".

Next you will be telling me Thaksin is going to give back all the money he Thieved from the Thai people,as a good will gesture.

Therein lies the problem. When presented with competing alternative plausible explanations, many here will reject the explanation inconsistent with their agenda even if such rejection is predicated purely upon speculation. You may want the reason to be lack of evidence to support conviction, but the reality is neither you nor I know why they were released.

But alas, the explanatin you chose to accept does provide you with a basis to support your complaints or criticisms. Your complaints clearly emanate from your assumption that peaceful protesters were arrested absent commission of any crimes.
