  1. Hi All,

I'm new here in Thailand and am looking to buy a bike. Sooner rather than later. And I've got a couple of questions that I hope you can help me with.

I've found a shop in Phuket town that has a couple of CBR 150R. The problem is they won't let me ride one to get a feel for it.

I am concerned that even though this is a relatively smaller bike than what I am used to riding in the states the riding conditions are much different here.

My first choice is the CBR150R and I wonder how it is for city riding? Do you find it easy to handle in city driving like in Phuket Town? Parking doesn't seem like it would be a problem or might it? People seem to park very differently here and I have had to squeeze through some pretty tight spaces to get my rented scooter out of a tangle of bikes that just seemed to appear after I had parked.

Also I just read that the CBR is to be upgraded soon to fuel injection model. Any idea when this might happen and when they will be in production? I need a bike now bt can also rent a scooter if it will be out in the next couple of months. Any idea how the price might compare to the current model?

Thanks much for any advice you can offer.

in - city riding and running errands (shopping, riding with GF) going to the beach, buy an airblade or other scooter.

For country roads, trips, pushing the limits of the street conditions and the traffic and bad drivers, flirting with danger, and wanting to play 'racer', get the CBR.

If you're not going to drive 'fast', the CBR is a waste - as a scooter will already exceed the speed limit and safe driving speeds easily and has tons of storage, you can drive with one hand, etc...

You could also get a Sonic which is an in-between bike, cheaper than the CBR, slower, but faster than a scooter, and has gears and a clutch, no storage.

Some places will rent you a CBR, have a look in Patong.

  2. Ok, tried to put xenon lights in my CBR 150, and found out they don't work as good as the factory lights. Too many amps. Any suggestions, as the factory lights just are not bright enough at night.

there's a thread somewhere on this forum about a guy who tried everything...and found the best bulbs to use...you can search for it ?

  3. Incorrect, ...at low-medium speeds the rc valve augments the exhaust so to provide stronger lowend by restricting the exhaust outlet.....

After saying 'incorrect', you repeated what I said: The RC valve helps low end.

An nsr without an rc valve is much slower at high speeds than an nsr with a working rc valve.

If you welded the rc valve in the High RPM position you'd have the same high RPM performance and worse low RPM performance.

I didn't mean to imply to remove the RC valve completely! that would not make sense at all.

My point -to reply the original post - was that the RC valve helps low end performance.

And Because of this, it also smooths the transition from low to high RPM.

Therefore, without it, there would be even more of a kick as the engine reaches 8K RPM.

Main point - The RC valve does not make the bike go faster at high RPM, and is not the cause of the typical 2-stroke engine 'kick'.

Anyway my bad, I forgot this is a CBR forum.

  4. My 2009 CBR is not even close to as fast os my 12 year old NSR. However, it has not left me stranded on the road either. As for the expensive grey book bigger bikes, where I ride mostly in traffic, you would be on the slow bike.

    Tim

I'll bet if you race them side by side and both are in good tune, they are closer than you think.

  5. You're not in Kansas any move. Before 2008, there were only legal bikes of over 200 cc, costing over half a million baht for sale.

what does this mean? In 2007 or earlier, legal bikes were 200cc or bigger and they cost 500,000 baht?

    In Thailand?

  6. Lovely bikes those CBRs but I was a little disapointed with the power output compared to my NSR.Maybe because I'm used to the RC valve on the 2 stroke opening at high RPMs and giving the bike a kick in the ass effect.

There is a brand new black CBR in the local Honda dealers and I must say,it looks great.

The NSR puts out 37bhp (apparently),so what about the CBRs power?

"kick in the ass effect" Come on you're talking about 150cc sewing machines here or at least thats what you'd call them in your home country. They'd be used by teenagers, 'r' drivers (UK ref) and most of you wouldn't be seen dead on one of these things.

I think the only "kick in the ass effect" would be from the guy on the 600 passing you at speed...

the kick in the ass isn't caused by the RC valve, it's because it's a 2 stroke and they have relatively poor power at low rpm that increases suddenly at a high RPM.

It's about 8000 RPM on an NSR.

any 4 stroke of the same engine displacement (or even smaller) can/will have better low end and more linear power.

the RC valve helps increase low RPM power by changing the size of the exhaust ports (making them smaller)

if you removed the RC valve you would have an even more noticeable kick.

Well, these are not exactly sewing machines - they can go 'fast enough' to hurt yourself pretty badly.

And there's enough acceleration to put a grin on your face.

And if you want to compare apples and oranges, why not suggest the guy passing you is on a 1000, either way the price you pay and what you get are totally different.

  7. The Yamaha Xmax 250cc is not build in the ASEAN region so it's not open for ZERO import TAX. Probably we can expect more lower then 250cc motorcycles from China... That for sure...

just read a news clip where 2 motoGP riders visit Thailand and introduced the new 150cc nuovo - but i can't find news about it anywhere else..

  8. You mean starting a thread where is only written what the readers like to hear.I thought the use of a forum was to start a discussion of the pro's and contra's fronm a certain subject.Clearly you are not from the same opinion.

You don't happen to be involved in some business regarding such a product do you. :)

No I don't mean that. No, forums are not ONLY for debates, and you can see examples all over thaivisa.com.

There's forums for help on where to rent, etc, but this one is degenerating into a name-calling debate.

Now you're questioning a motive for starting a more "helpful" thread - that's a first.

I don't have a business selling the stuff, why would I be asking questions?

    Cheers.

  9. Do you have any idea how ridiculous it is to list cancer and heart conditions as side effects of HRT. I don't think this requires too much elaboration. Just think about it.

HRT makes a lot of people feel better. The evidence is overwhelming....but as you say, they should be careful because they may die one day.

Maybe a good idea to read this link then.Of course you gonna say it is not true but maybe take notice that the url ends on .gov.Maybe a bit more credible then most of those juice selling sites.

can someone start a new thread for people who are interested in the positive effects of HRT and have useful questions/answers instead of a "fight club" thread?

Then the haters can continue on in this forum with their vast knowledge ....

  10. The front brake lever is on the right side. The clutch lever is on the left. It's not rocket surgery.

Rocket surgery? Maybe you mean rocket SCIENCE? :) I didn't know there were rocket surgeons.

Anyhow I'm glad you pointed this out. I think on my NSR it's the same way.

Have you changed your shift pattern to 1 up 5 down? That's great fun.

Race pattern. . .Just don't let anyone ride your bike.

  11. why would anyone want a d-tracker 125 when the 250 is the same size physically, and probably a similar price?

    Erm..

    3/4 size v full size..

    82k - 86k v 15xk ??

Ill try some of what your smoking..

I believe jbeck is trying to say 83,000 Baht + 40,000 Baht = 123,000 Baht

I don't know how much experience you have riding a motorcycle with 10 horspower, but I believe - especially if the bike looks a bit sporty like the two Kawasaki's - you quickly start to think about improving performance...

My Bad. I thought the bikes were basically identical except for engine size.

Does the 125 not have (standard) 17" wheels?

  12. You obviously know far too much about this Tropo. Rather than discussing the cost, tell the man what it does.

If you're going to play around with injectables for HRT, you can never know too much. Jessy nailed it in a post above. With HRT you're seeking to normalize dwindling testosterone production as you age...it's as simple as that.

I have no idea why anyone is asking about injectables for HRT. A much better and safer, although more expensive option is Andriol Testacaps. It's a very mild form of testosterone supplemenation delivered through the lymphatic system (bypasses the liver) which will have very little to no effect (depending on dose) on the HPTA (the bodies own testosterone production). What this means is that if a person discontinues using them, they still have all of their own natural production to fall back on. If a person injects testosterone (Sustanon etc), their own production will cease and the testicles will shrink due to non-use.

When using Andiol Testracaps there will also be no conversion of excess testerone to estrogen as is usually the case with injectables...mainly because the dose is so mild that there will not be any excess testosterone left in the system. When one injects 250 mg of testerone, there is an immediate surplus of testerone which will shut down the person's own production and start converting to estrogen. This will possibly lead to fat gain, gynecomastia (growth of breast tissue) and other feminizing characteristics.

These can be bought over the counter in Thailand and 1 or 2 caps per day is usually enough. The best price in Thailand is 13.3 baht per cap, so that would be 26.6 baht per day for an average dose. IMO this is the perfect solution to HRT and very safe.

What is a TYPICAL dose of Testoviron Depot for HRT? (no guessing please!)

How does a single injection of 1ml (250mg) compare to Andriol Testocaps : how many caps would be required for an equal raise in T blood serum level.

(again - no guessing!) If you don't know, that's okay!

And yes I will see dr oliver, but right now I am seeking specific info

    thanks

    thanks in advance

  13. So anyone know where I can get a 47T sproket?

My local bike shop, quite a big busy one, says than can order it no problem, dont have to pay ahead either.

which shop is that? Do you have to speak Thai? But remember, nothing is ever a problem here :)

    Cheers.

  14. I've avoided saying this for a long time, but I've had 'problems' with Asean moto.

Including waiting for months for parts, and not being refunded 2000 baht when the they sent me the wrong rearsets for my bike

Am having that very problem right now.

Ordered an exhaust system and when I called he said " yeah its done, but its red" <deleted>? A red carbon fiber exhaust.

No thank you sir, my bike is black and silver please get me the one that is in the pic on your website. A month later now and he says he's waiting for a call from the company when they get new stock of carbon fiber.

What a headache, one that I have already paid for..

yeah I waited about 3 months for (and never got) a rear sprocket...all kinds of "just one more week" promises. Waiting for factory. Of course you have to pay first.

Ordered a Suzuki Raider rearsets and got (I think) a cbr one...returned it, NEVER got a refund, 2000 baht, begged for 3+ months and gave up.

My biggest expense, a complete engine kit for 26,000 baht - I had to bite my nails for 3 months after being promised 2 weeks. Finally got it.

However, some other stuff I did get...rather reasonably compared to the above.

So sometimes buying used stuff isn't that bad if you don't have to deal with this....

  15. Does we have any more options on spare parts then this 2 shops here in BKK

    http://www.faddybike.com/static/cbr150.htm

    http://aseanmoto.com/

    -

At the moment iam looing for a set of Aluminum alloy pedle set.

And this 2 shops are insane expanse on them..., 3500++ THB . . ,

Maybe the Sonic Aluminum alloy pedle set are the same? .,

Most going to get this pedle set cheaper? ., Any idé...

    -

And i still have my NMF Carbon exhaust system for sale ., almost new .. 3000 THB . ,, its loud but its very good looking.

I've avoided saying this for a long time, but I've had 'problems' with Asean moto.

Including waiting for months for parts, and not being refunded 2000 baht when the they sent me the wrong rearsets for my bike.

    Buyer beware.

    Akunar.com is an alternative.

I too am interested if there are more than these three, especially if they speak English.

  16. Jbeck. At least Powerband and tachi gave some constructive advice. If you dont like getting the emails turn off the email alert.

The Cbr150 is a learner style bike in as much as it may be the 1st clutched bike they have ridden, so if people ask for advice its good that more experienced riders give that advice.

Hey Thaicbr, Thanks for the idea, but I don't want to turn off email alerts.

And I believe the CBR forum is for CBR stuff. Sure there's a gray area.

But learning how to ride a bike?

Anyway he only asked if he could hop on and ride it home, he didn't ask for advice.

"At Least" I specifically answered his question so I guess you could say I did give constructive advice also.

Anyway, not important. Thaivisa is full of threads that stray off topic rather quickly.

I though this was one of those times. . .

    Cheers mate.

  17. you really don't want someone who's new on a bike to use alot of front braking on a wet road or loose sand..heck ive been riding for more than 15 years and make it a point to avoid too much front brake in both those situations.

Isnt that part of the learning curve. Practice and learn on many surfaces, where its safe to do so.

Part of the learning curve is to be able to drive within your limits of experience.....meaning speed and where u drive.

I know that when I first got om my CBR 4 years ago I wouldnt dare doing what I do now!! But I believe (maybe mistakenly, but i dont think so) That I am safer on the bike riding like I do now, than 4 years ago.

I also try and read as much into other drivers intentions and possible manourves as possible......But that doesnt account for the other drivers stupidity!! doing what u least expect!! :)

uh..I keep getting email telling me there's new posts on the "CBR150" forum - we don't need to tell each other how to ride in this forum!

  18. Would I likely be able to drive a CBR off the lot?

No. And it's not fair to 'learn' while putting the other drivers at risk.

Sure you 'might' be able to pull it off.

Statistically, about 90% or more bike accidents are new drivers - meaning the first few days of driving a bike.

And most of these are first-time drivers (I read this - it's not just an opinion).

Why would you not care enough (about others at least) to learn in an empty parking lot first ?

Everyone on the road is counting on each other to know what they're doing - what if you shift down instead of up, or pull the clutch instead of the front brake?

These are the kinds of reasons for those statistics.

    Cheers mate.

  19. I know in BKK there is some big market for bikes that supposedly has all kinds of things for CBR150s as well. Anybody been there?

Nope, never heard of it. Would like to though.

it's called poonsub - a 40 minute taxi ride from sukhumvit skytrain station

mostly stuff for fino, mio, sonic, click

a lot of dress up parts, some engine parts...

    only a little English spoken

probably hundreds of shops,,,even salvage parts and newly painted sets of bodywork.

I went there looking for Airblade and Raider parts and could not find any....

I did not see any shop specializing in CBR 150 stuff but that doesn't mean it wasn't there..I would bring a thai person with me if I went again.
