  1. Ok, so I really went at the bike today. Found that it wouldn't start, and I had no brake light. Ok. So when I turn the key on, the neutral light would come on, all the directionals worked, but no brake light. When I hit the start button, I could hear a light pop and no start, all lights went dead. I started messing with the wiring. Finally, after tracing backwards from several wires, found that the "O" shaped connector had broken off the power lead to the battery, and when I hit the start button this would pop. So I fixed that and it starts right up. Also, when I was tracing electrical wires, I found that one of my fuel lines was pinched going to the carb so I fixed that.

Took it for a spin and I don't think it ever ran better! Tons of torque and good speed. I ran down Thonglor to Sukhumvit to OnNut and back and no problems at all, except..... I still have to brake light. Well, on the ride home, ALL my lights went out except the headlight, and then only on hi-beams. No directionals, no brake light, no low beam headlight, no neutral light. Just high beams.

Now what could that be? I checked all the fuses, switches. I re-taped all electrical tape. Cleaned contact points. Nothing. I guess I will just have to take it to someone smarter than me with electrical problems. I just don't like messing with electricity.

  2. Not sure it qualifies as "big" but I have a VFR400NC30 . . . nice little pocket rocket for nipping about on, not so great going to 7/11 tho lol

    Tats

I think anything from 400cc up is called big i LOS, you can go on your bike to different bike meetings and so on. But this is off course subject to personal preferences, Thai made bikes was app. 125-150cc before, so........

    Photos??

I would concur. 400cc+ in Thailand is considered "big". In the USA, that's considered small cc. Even the 600cc's are still considered "middleweights".

Any Japanese 400-600 cc bike will leave an 883, 1450, or 1550 Harley in the dust. this is the fallacy of ranking bikes by how big the engine is.

It's not how big yours is, it is how you use it.

  3. Ok, so on iPhone 3G and AIS, I could never get MMS to work, either receiving or sending. Now with iPhone 4, it is the same. I tried changing the carrier settings manually and with Unlockit.nz, but it didn't work on either phone. iPhone 4 doesn't allow me to manually change the settings anyway. Has anyone gotten it to work? I have tried 3rd party apps also through Cydia and no luck.

  4. FWIW: I made a special trip down to Rachaprasong today (really I needed to go to MBK to fix my mobile phone :o )!

Be that as it may; I stopped a while there and thought they were pretty peaceful (compared to when the soldiers went in and ran 'em out with bullets!).

I talked to many of the 'thais-on-the-street" meaning thais wearing either 'red' or 'black' t-shirts. Were there a LOT of 'em, hel_l yes! They were 'thick as ticks on a dogs back' but of course that is an American idiom, so no one understands it. !

For the most part they seemed like they didn't have a clue why they were there (at Rachaprasong).

Many of them told me 'in thai', "They told me to come so I came…"

You figure it out for yourself. .. . :D

Same exact situation as last time. No one knows or cares, they are being paid to be there, so they go.

And btw, how about "knee high to a grasshopper" as another silly American idiom? My dad used to refer to me that way.

  5. I have 2 custom Hondas, Phantom and Steed. They are big enough for me.

Photos don't do them justice by the looks. Both bikes look eye catching. I gather your black beasty would have quite a song to be heard with those pipes? :)

Thanks. Yeah, the black one is loud, almost too loud. I like a low rumble, but these sound a little "tinny" or higher pitched than I prefer. I have not had the time to shop around for a better set of pipes.

Buy a Harley, when I start mine: car alarms, dogs, infants goes off, lol ;)

Okay waiting for incoming flack. B)

I won't flame you. I am a believer in loud pipes save lives. But, I do prefer a less loud bike. I really like the rumble of a Harley, but without quite the volume. Actually, I would rather listen to a loud @ss bike bike like a Harley or v-twin Honda over a loud @ss modified racing scooter anyday.

  6. Did you try driving without the tape on the vent?

I haven't yet. I will give it a shot Saturday or Sunday when I can mess around with the bike. I am leaning towards waters or something in the tank. I will try to run it for awhile and see if I can burn it off. If that doesn't work, maybe I will drain the tank and fill it with fresh gas and see how that works.

Did it run well before you put the tape over the vent. ?

When you opened the petrolcap when it happened was there sucking sound ? http://en.allexperts...exExp_52174.htm

It has run well with the tape on there for 4 months straight. I have only had the tape off once, to change it. Anytime I have opened the cap, with or without the tape, there is never any sucking sound of pressure escaping.

  7. I have several times been unable to get out after getting into motorbike parking areas with a long chopper. Most of the time I just park with the cars and be damned to any person who says anything. But if I do get caught, I just start moving the other bikes and ask a security guard for help moving them. I have never had one refuse to help me. Once I backed up the incoming traffic because I couldn't get out, not on purpose. I soon found myself with 4 helpers who had jumped off their scooters.

I guess if I were you I would ask nicely again, and explain the situation. Maybe they will let you park in the motorcycle area, but in such a ways as to get out easily, like near their booth or near the exit. Or, I have also had to park in a jack@ss kind of way, taking up more than my fair share of space, know that it would be difficult getting out.

    Good luck.

  8. How can it be good news that the police are there? The Police ARE red shirts!!!

So true, but I am hoping that they at least stop them from burning the place down again. My office in Centralworld was spared luckily, but I don't want to take my chances a second time.

  9. I just spent the better part of an hour traveling from Chitlom to Ratchadamri on Sukhumvit because of another red shirt rally. They are in the streets and on the sidewalks. The sidewalks are crowded with food stalls and makeshift tents for them to sleep. It makes me sick to see them celebrating, singing and dancing, in front of Centralworld, where so many lives were thrown into turmoil and possibly ruin by the fires, where so much destruction is still clearly visible. This can't be happening again? What happened to sticking to a yearly protest? Who screwed up the schedule? The good news is that there is a huge police presence here. And the best part is that there are nearly a hundred police ready with riot shields. At least showing some sort of show of force is a better start than last time. Anyway, avoid Ratchaprasong. It is starting to look exactly like the last protest there.

  10. So run out of your house/condo/apartment/high rise. Where will you live? We are not in China, we haven't had any finished buildings collapse here that I know of. There have been 2 - during construction at the University in Chonburi, and the scaffolding at Centralworld a week or so ago. But none after finishing, that I know of.

Royal Plaza Hotel in Korat, 90 dead or thereabouts in the early 90's.

Edit, it was 127 dead. Heres a link you may find interesting.

    http://www.thaiengin...250&&id_cate=33

Interesting, but not isolated to Thailand. Nor is poor welding.

  11. We use anti-freeze/coolant. It is the same stuff. Good for 100,000 miles if it is a new vehicle. If it is a newer vehicle, check the owner's manual. You really don't need to flush it early, especially here with no winters. Don't use plain water, it boils too easily and it will introduce rust in the system.

  12. I have 2 custom Hondas, Phantom and Steed. They are big enough for me.

  13. or to live, work or even enter a building where the welders were being paid minimum wage

    what a country...

    Run!!!!!!

You are in one now. I ran a crew of only Thais at minimum wage, but some of the other sub-contractors were employing Burmese and Laos workers for 100 a day or less. Every job site I have been to or involved with has employed minimum wage welders, plumbers, brick layers, concrete guys, window installers, etc etc etc. I have been involved with everything from high rise condos to town houses to industrial and commercial buildings. It is all the same.

  14. It is a nice car, have seen them testing it for the past 6 months. I would buy it over the Altis for sure. I really like the LTZ version. It looks great and sounds great as well. The interior is sharp also.

If you like the Chevy trucks, stay tuned. You may be happily surprised this fall.

  15. Did you try driving without the tape on the vent?

  16. What fuel you using? Hope not gasohol.

No, very careful to only use 91 or 95 real gas, I never use gasohol. I always fill up at the same station. No changes there.

So this has all happened since it was not run for a week? It ran fine after you changed the plugs and had the carburettor cleaned? Is it stored inside or out?

If so it sounds like water in the fuel. Drain the carb if it has a drain plug and bung a bottle of fuel conditioner in to absorb the moisture.

It doesn't sound like a pinched fuel line otherwise when you slow down the carb would fill up again and it would ride fine until it got starved again. Same goes for blocked vent in the gas cap if there is one.

Check the choke mechanism also, it might be partially stuck .

If the symptoms persist and if you have time during your busy schedule. Let the bike stutter for a while then pull in the clutch and cut the ignition simultaneously, coast to a stop and check one of the plugs to see if it is too rich or too lean. That would give you and us a clue.

If moisture in the fuel, It might just go away on it's own after time.

Yes, this was all of a sudden after sitting for a week outside. It is always outside, in a covered parking garage. It hasn't rained once here in Bangkok where I am while it sat. I put a couple of thousand kilometers on it since the plug and filter change and the carb cleaning. I have never used the choke, not sure where it even is honestly.

This Sunday I can take it out and try to drive away any moisture. It has a vent in the gas cap, but I have had tape over it since I bought it with no problems. Tape is there to keep the gas from spraying me in the face after a fill up. Also, I can check for rich or lean.
