  1. If you are Interested in flea market type things then you might want to check out the international school's end of year Garage/Yard Sales. I know CDSC had one last Saturday, Lanna International School has one this coming Saturday, and I believe the others all have them coming up too...

  2. Well, I glad to see that some of you liked it!

ThaiVisa is a really special place though... I don't know of any other forum populated by such a bunch of argumentative, bored, old buggers who would argue over just about anything!

Actually, lots of good people too, they just get drowned out by the grumpies. Such a shame really... This place needs proper moderating IMHO

  3. Don't get me wrong, I like Thai food. But, I eat it at least once most days and I do like some variety in my life too. Thais it seems, do not, at least where food is concerned. I am sick and tired of food courts with the same old menu of standard Thai dishes.

Having recently visited Malaysia and seen an Asian neighbour having wonderful food courts with food from all over the world, I have been hoping Thailand might move that way too... Well...

Yesterday evening I discovered a wonderful new outdoor food court just off the Night Bazaar road. It has been created with some style and creativity (no, honestly!), with food from all over the world, and even beer and cocktails too.

I can't remember all that is there, but for sure: Great Indian Food (Mama's Kitchen has relocated here), steaks/salad/fries, pizza, burgers, Japanese curries, other Japanese food, a squid place, gyoza place, a pad Thai place, other Thai food place, milk bar, smoothie bar, alcohol free mohitos bar, real cocktail bar...

It doesn't begin to open until about 6pm and the attached photos were taken then, with some places still closed - it is still Thailand after all!

If you enter Changklan from the Thai Phae end it is about 100m on the right. You can drive right in and part behind the back of the food court area. It is at Google Maps ref: 18.786641, 99.000658 (paste the numbers into the Google Maps search bar).

ENJOY - go support it. Don't risk losing it... thumbsup.gif

  4. Great help everyone, thank you so much! I will start with TopGear bike shop I think. They have also just been recommended to me via Facebook as having these taps. I hope they do.

I really don't want to mess up his little legs.... I know kids are adaptable, but I don't want odd leg adaptations due to long rides with oversized cranks. He's done well over 30km with me several times already; I want to give him the right length crank arms...

  5. Pedal Taps, or at least access to some wanted. I want to drill and tap the crank arms on a bike for my son, so that he can properly ride it now ( he's tall enough to sit on it, but pedal stroke is too long really).

I can buy the taps (one left hand thread one right) off eBay for 1500 Baht, then another 800 for a handle! Do any local shops do this? Anyone have a pair of 9/16" taps? A long shot I know....

    Any help very gratefully received.

  6. Oh to have taxis to reject us in the first place....

In Chiang Mai it appears that the tuk tuks and dirty old red buses have it all sown up. There are NO taxis to flag down in Chiang Mai. You can only get them by booking (and paying a call out fee). It is my understanding that were they to just pick people up on the street they would be in big trouble from THE BOYS!

...and they wonder why people drink and drive. We would love taxis with meters on the streets. I can even suffer the occasional rejection to avoid haggling ridiculous prices with tuk tuk drivers at 1 in the morning - regularly asking for 300 Baht for a journey that would be 70 Baht in a metered Bangkok taxi! B'stards....

Utterly ludicrous to base punishment on income !!

So work your arse off at school while everyone else is out on the lash and then whilst paying a disproportionate amount of tax owing to your own success, have to stump up more than lazy <deleted> for committing a minor offence !!

As for the argument there is a "I'm so rich I don't care if its a small fine" etc etc you can surely put those words into the poor guys mouth too as he knows the book isn't going to be thrown at him because he's done sod all to contribute to society !

Its the politics of envy !

Sorry Benroon but your post is BS, the concept of basing punishment on income is realistic and ensures a meaningful deterrent, as has been shown countless times over the ages what use is a few dollar fine to a multi millionaire?

The whole idea of a fine is nothing to do with how well educated someone is or how hard they work, it is about stopping people from repeating offences. I can see the point in minor misdemeanors eg. dropping chewing gum on the pavement or littering, as much as I dislike this kind of behavior it is not life threatening.

Speeding on the other hand can be as I can't remember any km/Hour speed limits on roads 1000km from any population centers, speed limits are usually there to protect the pedestrian population and to prevent accidents. If someone has to do without a new BMW or European holiday to make that happen then so be it...

I repeat Its the Politics of Envy - its amazing how many times 'BMW' works its way into conversations when success bashing is the subject!

You can repeat all you like; it doesn't stop it being BS. Fines are intended to hurt - small fines don't hurt rich people, hence the logical need for them to be proportionate to wealth...

And, do you really believe all rich people worked hard and deserve the cash? No such thing as spoiled rich brats then?

My only change would be to base it on wealth, not last year's earnings - to make sure we catch the lazy rich!

  8. Wingnut, I get what you say about the 250 compared to a bigger bike, but it is only a single cylinder 250, so we can't expect miracles – it is no performance bike… Nevertheless, with the 13T sprocket the bike is indeed transformed into something much better. It is more what I hoped the bike would be like. It almost “surges” through the gears (even with my 85kgs on board), and even reminds me somewhat of the fun to be had on my little NSR 150. It even sounds different - much more revvy, in a good way.
Another thing that I have noticed is much more willingness to pull at slow speeds in traffic, even when in a slightly too high gear - so actually more flexible, relaxing and LESS gear changing in some ways. True, on hard acceleration you get through the gears more quickly, but that feels good too.
It is hard to imagine going back to a 14T on the front. I can only think that Honda put the 14T on the front thinking of very light riders, for relaxed low rev commuting, or just to get better fuel economy figures. 13T seems much the better choicer if a sportier feel is the goal...
I bought my steel 13T sprocket from Saengchai Honda spares on Kaew Nawarat Road in Chiang Mai for a few hundred Baht. It's sold as standard fitment for the older Honda AX-1 250 (and is actually also available with various different numbers of teeth).

  9. Two important points on power. Note, I don't have the CBR300R, but the CBR250R. But I looked up the specs and both bikes are single cylinder and the 300 only has about 2-3HP more than the 250. So I assume performance will be nearly the same on both. What I can tell you is the power band where you've got some decent torque doesn't really kick in until you hit about 7,000 rpm. This means off the line that these bikes are relatively slow and at a stoplight for example you will probably find these small 125-150cc bikes, like the one that you have now, are much faster initially when the light turns green. The other thing I noticed is when you have a passenger on the back that the power drops tremendously. So if you are planning on riding with a passenger on the back much of the time then you might find the bike's performance is a lot less than you expected. I hope that helps.

If you want to transform your CBR250 from pedestrian to a revvy little mini-beast change the front sprocket from 14T to 13T. I still don't get near the red line in 6th gear, BUT it is now in the fun revvy range so much more of the time. I've had mine like this for 6 months and love it... See a discussion on the cbr250 forum: http://www.cbr250.net/forum/cbr250-performance/5571-anyone-using-13t-front.html

I can only think that it comes with a 14T front for commuters looking for very high mpg and relaxed revving (or so Honda can sell it quoting a very high mpg!)

  10. Thank you all for the info. I got my iPad 4 screen replaced by the guy in the KSK shop. It was only 2,500 Baht and 1 hour turn around. Lovely! I had been thinking this would cost a lot more...

  11. The Pirellis in Thailand for the CBR250 are Sport Dragons, not Sport Demons as mentioned earlier - at least that's all I am aware of, and are what I fitted on mine. I am very happy with them; much stickier than the stock rubbish! I paid 3,900 for mine in Chiang Mai at Piston Shop, including fitting and balancing.

  12. I buy all of my kids games online via Steam. Very reputable, great prices and super easy - download and play...

It also retains all game ownership within your account, su future reinstalls equally simple. All legal, very fairly priced, and work perfectly online.

You can even create a wish list and receive an email when any game on it comes online. I think it is a great service; good enough that I never pirate games for the kids anymore...

  13. There is an old archived thread that suggests Union chemical supplies on Suthep road as a source. I have been there and they do sell them, but by the kilo only, for about 1600 Baht - I'd need a hell of a cold to get through them!

The old thread also suggested Warorot market as a good source; hopefully for lesser quantities. This makes sense to me, BUT, does anyone have any idea where in that maze I should be looking?

OR, if a few folks want to split a kilo I am happy to sort that out... I never thought I would end up supplying crystal menth, but there you go, lol!
