  1. If she were to "man" up,1st she'd need a set of cojones on her and she isn't packing any.

Good old PTP use the cover of the floods to bring back Baig T. The red supports will be here soon telling us how great this will be for Thailand. Ying luck should man up and tell dear brother he is on his own and she being the PM will do what is best for Thailand.

  2. The "civil drug war" IS NOT affecting much of the nation.Only selected border states and a few interior states.I have lived in 3 places in Mexico the past 5 years and most recently in Cabo until Jul 1.The vast majority of Mexico is safe from waht you referred to.

I do agree with you about not liking that aspect of Thai culture though.

When I look back at when I was just a tourist considering my first visit to Thailand, I realize that your average first time or even repeat tourist probably doesn't care much about any of the local problems (cultural or otherwise).

I came here, and before I could even leave the airport, I was scammed by the approximate 100 USD BMW 7-series 'taxi'. You know, I should have been more cautious, but it didn't matter to me because I had money and it was 'part of the experience' of going to a third world country.

Now that I live here, I hate this aspect of the culture, but I doubt average tourists will be affected by this unless their safety is threatened in large enough numbers and, most importantly, unless major traditional and new media outlets report on it.

I mean, people from the US STILL goto Mexican resorts in fairly high numbers even with their civil drug war affecting much of that nation.

So, sadly, Thailand will probably not change much because the equation is not much affected by the many unscrupulous people here who prey on foreign tourists ...

  3. Obviously asanee (above) believes their bilge:

"you are reinforcing my opinion that expats seem unable to think logically. THAI also travel-even by plane. And Swampy is both international and domestic. And is in fact quite a big transit-port too-these pax also count as ARR + DEP. Sometimes I really wonder why I have to respond this way in explanation............. Or only used to Bahrain, with no domestic?

Like PT Barnum said,"there's a sucker born every minute".

Mr. Somchai obviously received the fax from the AOT, that requested that he quote arrivals at 100,000 per day, and 800 flights. Well, I have been through Suvarnabhumi lately, and it was a ghost town. Even the immigration clerk remarked that they had nothing to do. These blatant lies are one of the reasons Thailand is going backwards. The flooding is the least of their problems. The lack of transparency, and these continued fabrications, is one reason why Thailand is ranked 152, out of 178 countries, in the journalists without borders survey. They are ranked below Yemen, and Kazakhstan, when it comes to press freedom. So, of course these kinds of problems persist. There is no accountability within Thailand. Do or say anything, to accomplish an objective, is the government mantra. Unfortunately, those of us with eyes and ears know better. Do not believe the nonsense. It is only that.

  4. And just how high above water is BKK,without the floods?

In the end its just one hell of a lot of water and Bangkok is in the way

nature will always win... and you can't change the law of gravity...

even technologically sophisticated and relatively wealthy countries can't control nature... just look at the Mississippi flooding earlier this year and the Aussie floods...

Mississippi is practically a third world state in the U.S.

Yeah, and what's the population of Mississippi? Does its capital have 12 million residents? Did its capital city flood?

Not to say the US is free from critique - building so heavily on sinking marshland (New Orleans) was not our finest hour.

  5. MRO=Maintenances,Repair,Overhaul.

This could quite possibly be curtains for Honda..

They've been under massive financial struggles for the past 3 years. The new Civic has been universally panned in the US (a critical model for them in that market), the Jazz has been losing sales hand over fist in every global market, the City remains popular only in Thailand (where they can't sell any now). The Accord is dated and is bottom of it's segment in virtually every market.

Not to mention that with this announcement, they've just lost practically their entire sales force.

What are you babbling on about? Honda vehicles are regularly on the top 10 lists on Edmunds and other consumer polls. The company is certainly in no financial danger. It controls massive market share in the U.S.

Hahaha. I think you have no idea who you are taking on here. Let's hope MRO goes easy on you.

  6. Sure, let's pump MORE water into the area....LOL!:annoyed:

Strange story......What are the flood reservoirs now doing with 1 million m3 in them? So in essence if a massive flood comes, they are only able to use 75% of their capability to store water. If their pumps can truly pump out 1 million m3 per day, you would think AOT would be pumping right now so the reservoirs would be at zero...... So many of these stories do not make sense, I sometimes wonder if things are " lost in translation"....

  7. yes you are

Am I the only one who think this dutch expert sounds poorly informed about the actual situation? Apparently, he doesn't think the river will overflow much, nor that there are areas near the river much more prone for flooding - upto 2 meter according to another expert, who does sound a bit more knowledgeable about Bangkoks specialties.

  8. They multiplied by 5.

" the number of international visitors was now expected to drop by 15-20 per cent, or 750,000, to 1 million this quarter compared with the same time last year"

according to the above, doesn't matter, if bangkok will be heavy flooded, foreigners are already cancelling their trips in an anticipation of a bad situation.

"Tourism revenue would also dive by between Bt30 billion and Bt40 billion based on average spending of Bt28,000-Bt40,000 per foreign tourist per trip."

from where 50bln in the title came from?

  9. "But Thailand's defence minister, General Yutthasak Sasiprapa, indicated that authorities felt they were able to handle the situation themselves.

"We have not denied their assistance, but we have our own aircraft so we would rather use ours," he told reporters, adding however that he was unclear over the details of the US offer and needed to check with the air force chief.

That would be those same choppers that crash on a regulaer basis without the stress of complications I suppose.
