  1. There may be flooding, but I doubt it will be worse today than flooding that has been experienced in Bangkok in the past. I remember hearing stories of swimming on Sukhumwit!

I've always somehow avoided them (knock on wood), but I agree with LaoPo that it is a "when", not "if", scenario. Every year we talk about how they should expand the city sewer system, manage the khlongs better, and stop people from clogging up the sewers with their garbage and cooking refuse (all those street stalls pouring hot fat, etc down the sewers). Every year, nothing gets done.

I still think that Thailand would be smart to follow Malaysia, and create a new capital somewhere that won't sink and is on higher ground. At least infrastructure can be maintained where it will be needed to coordinate a response if everywhere else goes down.

If not,the Red Shirts will simply wear floatation devices for their next "rally".

  2. Court Rules NTC Does Not Have Authority to Auction 3G

The Supreme Administrtive Court has ruled, standing by an earlier decision by the Administrtive Court that the National Telecommunications Commission or NTC does not have the authority to auction off 3G licensing.

"The Supreme Administrative Court added that the country's development would not be disrupted without 3G or third generation wireless data service".

Now that's what call a forward thinking Supreme Court!

    LOL at them!;)

  3. ok, never to destinations I wanted, its not a deal if you have no plans on going there.

It's a deal whether you use it or not.I booked 4 trips with them when I lived here last year.

Some of their offer are obviously better than others and they have offers to every destination at least once a year.

  4. You can use it up to and including the day of expiration - I wouldn't trust a 23:50 landing on the 16th though that would just be too close - there may be a line at passport control or the flight may be delayed. I would choose the 15th at the latest. I would leave nothing to chance or the whim of the guy at P.C.

I arrived on the same Delta flight from Narita and we arrived early and there was no line at immigration,I was 2nd in line,so I got the current (correct) date stamped.

  5. How many have closed because they should not have opened in the first place.Too many people jump on the band-wagon without first doing their homework. Some will open a bar, restaurant or guest house because their neighbour is doing it and has a few customers. Those customers won't just multiply overnight - they will spread themselves over all the available establishments and everyone loses out. To be sure the recent protests by all colours have not helped tourism, but neither they not the government can be blamed for all the tourism ills. There is just over-supply, through lack of planning. The government should not bail everyone out.

Fianlly, the voice of reason in a reply in this thread.

  6. Seems Thai are having particular problems on the BKK Chaing Mai route.

Here's a link to one of TV's own members topic on a flight there only last Wednesday. Remarkably similar.

Two major engine problems in two days?

An hour later the passengers in flight, in another aircraft. Amazing. In the States, that would be unheard of

Totally incorrect-especially when it's in the home base of a carrier.Carriers always have spare acft of most types just for this "occasion".Stick to something you're familiar with.

I am a retired airline employee w/32 years experience.

  7. My family and I have just returned from Phuket and Kho Phe Phe.

It was a vacation from hel_l.

The tuk tuks and taxis are driven by thugs and the two-tired pricing is insulting. These low lifes have turned a paradise into a hel_l hole. It is not just the world economic situation that has harmed tourism to Thailand, it is the thugs who have taken over, intimidating tourists, charging extorinate prices, using firearms to milk tourists of their money and other felonious activities, which all contribute to the visitor swearing never to return.

We shall never set foot on Phuket and Phe Phe again.

The inmates have taken over the asylum! They need to be rounded up and dumped onto Devil's Island.

The guy who attacked the French family should be taken into a public place and beaten senseless. :D

    Once again,consider the source!

When people stop coming, maybe the will turn on each other-I can only hope. :)
