  1. He's probably taken the dog gambling to Macau and staying at his favourite hotel. Eithe rthat or he's working on a new super airconditioning (of my own design as he would say) for his slipppers?

  2. I recenlty had one of our customers in one of our rooms fall seriously ill (life and death) a relative came over and he was flown back to his country of origin and on the trip he was escorted by a Thai nurse who had dual nationality for his particular country, so I think they would need dual nationality to do it easily or you will have to go down the work permit in your own country for her to do it??

  3. Actually, Thailand needs more retirement homes for expats. We are here and all getting older, the services on offer for the expat elderly are actually quite thin on the ground. Think business opportunity.

    I think you are right.

I'm about to fire an email off to the manufacturer's of adult disposable diapers to see if I can collar the Franchise for Thailand - Can you think of any other 'Age' business oportunities?

Electric buggies ...........all the rage for the elderly in the UK

  4. KOh Kood (Trat) or Chumphon beaches way passed Hua Hin both nice photo attached of Ran ka chio (spelling) island in Chumphon, unspoilt.....so far, just ask a local fisherman to take you there, no tourist boats go there.

1st photo taken off Captain Hook Resort Koh Kood about 3 years ago it was lovely then but now????

  5. More worrying than the portrayal of attempted rapes, which at least are representative of the experience many Thai women suffer, is the common story line where the woman is stalked or worse still imprisoned by a guy who she detests but eventually comes round to falling in love with him - What kind of message is that meant to send I wonder.

    Thai hierarchical submission?

  6. what is it with farangs adminiting that their wifes spend their days watching those tv shows..

You are basically just telling us how lowly educated and dumb your wives are..

I would never be with someone who even enjoys it sometimes.

it's like someone who watches jerry springer and maurry 24/7.. once a month ok.. for lol's.. but more? you've got a problem up there.

The Thais I work with all have a minimum Bachelor's Degree, many have a Masters Degree a handful have MBAs and about 70% have either studied or worked in a professional role overseas.

Nearly all watch Thai soap operas.

So where do you get the idea that watching Thai soaps is only for the uneducated dummies?

Straight out of his "Thai Culture for dummies" book by the looks of it

  7. I don't know that problem it is with the Blackberry. If someone really wants to transfer bad stuff, they won't use it anyways since the PC has much more powerful encryption software which is very hard or impossible to crack. After so much BIG BROTHER advertising, no crackhead would use Blackberry for anything but legals stuff or they would use this, something the BIG BROTHER can't look into too.

What happens when I bring my "htc desire" phone to Thailand from the UK buy a local sim and connect to the internet using only local wifis??

I need to know as my drug smuggling ,gun running depends on this <_<

  8. Same file that was doing the rounds at least 3 years ago..

I remember some TG's watching at at my villa looking around over their shoulders as they watched it.. One said "whoever make this video.. He die now".. Funny seeing how freaked out by it they were.

Thailand never claimed to have real freedom of speech or any other freedom for that matter. People forget that this is essentially a feudal country with traditions and laws that are feudal. I'm not criticizing it because the people seemed satisfied to live under such circumstances.

    Satisfied or afraid?

  9. Many Farangs are as bad or worse than some Thai women.

Stupid comment there and nothing to back it up apart from even more generalisation intended to counter the original stereotyping.

I don't know of any Farangs who have feined love/lust to be with a Thai girl only to run off or go back to their real partner after they have been brought a house, a business and a car etc etc. I know several Thai girls who have done this to a naive Farang and are very proud of it too.

Yes, Thailand does not attract the best Farangs in most places but on the whole we get screwed over way worse than any locals when you weigh it all up.

Suggest you walk round Pattaya to see them then, unless you happen to be the ex husband of the woman I know who doesnt pay her any maintenance.

  10. These are other photos of a mangrove snake. Mangrove snakes are venomous, but not deadly. Their fangs are further back in their mouth.

  11. When I first came here I met 4 girls pre arranged before I even flew in, I still know all 4, out of the four I'd say they were all good with the exception of one who chases money a bit and her reasosn was easy to see, she had a Farang husband and then she fell pregnant with twins, after they were born her Husband ran off with a bar girl and I have a feeling it kind of changed her.

Many Farangs are as bad or worse than some Thai women.

  12. From these forums:

"Thailand’s Intellectual Property Department registered a patent for the royal rain-making to the king in 2003. Two years later, the European Patent Office issued the patent named “Weather Modification by Royal Rainmaking Technology” which is valid in 30 European countries for the Thai monarch. (MCOT online news)"

  13. <snip>

What the Thais, and many developing country nationals are better at than us is adaptation and recycling, and I don't mean copying. They can make repairs on many things with the minimum of tools that farangs, with their throwaway cultures are now simply incapable of. I've seen small groups of Thai workers sink huge metal fence posts without any digging or hammers - using just a simple plank of wood - literally in seconds.

I once tried to run a thread on examples of improvisation in Thailand, and it died a sudden death - the few responders simply assumed the thread was about invention, commercialisation and patenting, which shows the mind set that many farangs suffer from. I see lots of clever improvisation like this around Thailand, but I suspect many farangs never really open their eyes to such things. OK, bring it on........

I'm reminded of when we first moved here. The double doors on a cupboard at our rented townhouse would open on their own whenever there was wind from a fan or whatever. I rigged up an elaborate latch system using plastic, velcro and double-sided tape which fell apart after a couple of days. My wife then solved the problem by slipping a piece of discarded folded-up cardboard between the two door handles. That worked till we moved out of the place a year later.

Tell her you plan a manned mission to Mars and see what she suggests?

  14. Thanks everyone.

I got the wife to phone the local Hua Hin immigration to ask about 90 day reporting. The told her it can be done at ANY immigration office.

To double check I asked her to phone the main centre at Laksi. They confirmed - 90 day reporting can be done at ANY immigration office.

So please spread the word, the statement on the website is correct:

"Offices accepting notification: Immigration offices throughout the country."

About Samui - Yes, after 10 years I saw it declining inexorably. Three Tescos, 1 BigC, 1 Makro, uncountable 7-11s. It has become a concrete jungle. Anyone remember the old days when you'd see "monkey work coconut" signs everywhere? Now the monkeys work concrete. The locals, a murderous bunch, nasty, greedy. Beach erosion on the West side of over 1 metre a year. And on and on.... Now we are so much happier. Permaculture-based small scale farming. Ducks, fish, fruit and veg, utility plants. Can see the stars at night, peaceful and quiet.

I left over 3 years ago for the same reasons you and many others have. Should get aan Expats/ex Samui club going:lol:

I went there 4 years ago and liked it but went back recently and hated it, it seems theyve built and awful lot lately. I went to Koh Kood 5 years ago i wonder what that's like now?
