  1. I must admit, the  Aussie bogan element think they have  a god given right to take the piss out of anyone, even when its not warranted or called for. Add alcohol and it gets even worse.

The prime minister is no different and shows the standard Aussie reaction here: When caught out, heaps  of back-pedalling

and cries "it was only a joke".

Its kind of why i giggle here when reading the reports about Aussies getting the <deleted> kicked out of them by motorcai dudes

which is believe by some to be a favourite of the famous Luciano Pavarotti.

    ingredients:

    French style crusty bread
    Butter
    Salami
    Avacado
    Cheese
    Mayo
    Lettuce, tomato

  3. Sorry if this has been done in  a previous thread (couldn't find anything via search).

I was recently reading about the new 3 year visa Cambodia is soon to offer. In one way, it seems to good to be true, but then again what is the place

actually like to live in compared to Thailand?

More specifically, do you think one could easily adapt to Cambodian lifestyle after being in Thailand a decade or so?

Considering the negative proposals/announcements from Thai immigration that keep coming with regularity, and with the hurdles forever getting higher

would you be tempted to make the move? Or maybe even consider a six month (or so) change of scenery.

    Any feedback or thoughts?

No, sorry, but the "facts" as reported in this story stink to high heaven.

I would go as far as to say it is one big sh!te sandwich....And by that i mean the whole story is about as easy to swallow as a piece of soi dog turd nestled inbetween two very mouldly slices of bread.

    Lovely sentiment .... not

Fact is that many nationalities holiday or live here on a roller coaster of heavy drinking and high romantic/emotional expectations. A very very bad mixture ...

Indeed. I was reminded of that when a family member contacted me after seeing the Huahin Welsh couples story splashed all over the news in Australia.

My reaction was that with the use of a little bit of the ol' grey matter, many of these kinds of misadventures can usually be avoided.

As far as romantic/emotional expectations, For a logical person its very hard to take such a relationship seriously where:

    - Effective communication, at best is limited...at worst, non existant.

    - The education of the partners, the belief systems, and the morals they have grown up with are seriously different and often in conflict.

Added that the whole thing is usually built on co-dependencys of some sort.

Bound to end up in tears, or worse.

  5. Can someone tell us how can we get the figures for those who supposedly fell from buildings in Thailand? would be good if by province or location last 5 years stats?.cheers

A more telling statistic might be how many Aussies die from accidental balcony falls in Australia?

Ive been alive over 50 years now and although im sure it probably has happened more than a few times, i certainly cant recall any that i have read/heard of.

No, sorry, but the "facts" as reported in this story stink to high heaven.

  6. Interesting... The American Heart Assn. seems to not buy into the whole vegetable oil/aldehydes issues mentioned above, and coconut oil is on their "bad" list along with palm oil.

Hard to know who to believe….the experts had us believing fat was bad and sugar was ok way back when business interests paid them to say so.

    True.

    And that's my point.

As I expected I'm still confused about these choices and didn't really expect any resolution from this thread because in the real world these are still very hot issues.

I would assume, BTW, that by now the American Heart Assn. is not opposed to healthy fats (such as nuts and avocados) and is on board now with seeing the link of sugar with obesity.

There is a website from a farming family in the US that is starting a cottage type industry with pork products.

In regards to the pork fat issue, she has studied the history of the processed oil industries and unearths some very interesting claims.

It seems the processed oil industry was originated from cotton growers that huge backlogs of cottonseed they could not market or sell. Along came a clever bunch of chappies that found a way of processing the seed to make oil.

They did very little real research into the health benefits, but poured cash into a very vocal campaign against the use of saturated oils, butter, and animal fats, just to push their product.

It kind of fits with the M.O of cotton industry considering what they did to hemp, so i can believe the claims.

One of the other interesting claims is that pasture animals obviously get a lot of sunlight, and the vitamin they get from that (is it D?) is stored in the fat, which is another reason why animal fat can be healthy.

  7. Looks like a doorman attacked him....

the doorman or the toiletmen ,,,,,,,

I can't wait until the day these lowlife doormen/bouncers/toilet cleaner (or whatever they call themselves) take on an active duty U.S. Navy Seal or a U.S. Marine Special Forces.

I hope it's caught on video - would love to see that one.

What does an active duty U.S. Navy Seal or a U.S. Marine Special Forces do when several attackers are coming at him from all directions?

Pull out a few Stevan Seagal mooves eh?

I would like to see the video also...the look on the loudmouths face when cracked on the back of the head with a piece of bamboo would be priceless

  8. From mine, the mainstream recommended ones such as vegetable, canola etc. burn/evaporate so quick you have to use three times as much, even if just frying off onions.

That makes it a lot more expensive and probably means you are digesting a lot more fat and a lot of the nasties as well.

Considering the fumes they give off when overheated, akin to plastic bags burning, cannot be so good for you.

  9. why not just rent urself for 6 months??

anywhere will give u a 6 month lease

why would anyone BUY a place unless u can live there as much as you wish and they guarantee you can get a visa every year, UNLESS your married and/ or have kids?

First i should point out, i am not looking at buying. Been there done that, and it amounts to big losses if you plan to also rent while out

of the country. So its rental im looking for.

Secondly, from what i hear, it can be quite hard to actually get any rental appartment in some Aussie areas.

There can be a long list of people applying, hence many to choose from, and the real estate agents and property managers can

    be real p****s.

Six month leases are few and far between and most owners prefer 12 months minimum, with option to continue on the lease without changing contract.

In this case it would be a 3 year plan and would convenient to have a place already secured to drop into 3 months per year,

instead of the hassle of having to find a new place every year, having to pay for storage of furniture and on and on.

Obviously the biggest factor would be trust, and being able to rely on the other partners paying up and doing the right thing.

I was going to do a costing of what it would cost 4 people to share an appartment for 1 year (each party having the place to themselves for 3 months)

but since theres been little interest shown, ill presume the trust issues involved make it a non starter!

  10. excuse me but i am not understanding this topic, but would like to.What is a DE visa? What is METV?...what is your objective "ossieoverseas"

    Hi SBC,

The crux of the matter is that many people stay in Thailand long term on double entry tourist visa (DE) allowing six months per visa.

These visas were able to be applied for at Lao or other countries bordering Thailand.

The speculation that a new system (multiple entry tourist visa METV)

will replace the DE's these people are using now.

Some speculate that long stayers will only be able to get the visa from our own country (not LAO or bordering countries of Thailand) )

SO my idea (and purpose of this thread) is to see if it would be viable to have a base in Australia, as i may need to go back to Aus everytime i need a visa for Thailand.

As rental apartments in Aus are deadly expensive, the idea is getting 4 like minded parties to share a property and the yearly cost, with each party being able

to stay at the property in Aus for 3 months.

By which a 3 month stay outside of Thailand would seemingly satisfy the conditions of the new tourist visa to Thailand and suit people who want to live 9 months in Thailnd and 3 months in Australia every year.

  11. Bound to see a resurgence on the Stock Exchange Thailand on the back of this reassurance.

Every time he makes a gaffe the foreign investors look elsewhere.

If that's all it takes to spook investors i sincerely hope i don't have any (financial) exposure to their products.

  12. Correct.

I enjoy Perth and always have a good time when visiting!

However , beware the costs in Perth! Expensive!

Yes i hear you there. From my experience, everywhere is Aus is dead expensive. And now i hear Turnbull is proposing lifting the

    GST another 5 percent!

Actually i was just thinking, as far as my idea goes, there may be Aussies staying in Thailand who rent their properties in Aus.

If this new system requires long-stayers to return home every 8 months to get a fresh visa this could work for property owners.

Stay at your own place for 3 months and rent "off the books" to 3 other trusted parties for 9 months?

It would be otherwise out of the question to live in your own place and have guaranteed tenants for nine months.

    Its a thought anyway

  13. Could perhaps work but not for me!

When I visit Perth I stay with my son who is a newly minted Australian with a UK passport in addition to the new Aus. passport !

You have got it made then. Im sure you find Perth a great destination for trips to and from Asia.

I fear my idea would be near on impossible if you were looking to rent through an agent. They want 100% scrutiny of who was to stay and with availability

its tough market to crack into. Not sure owners would be to keen on the idea either.

However, I have an aunt who is a retired real estate agent. If i was to go any further, she would be the first to talk to

as she may have some old contacts or property owners she knows well.

still, maybe to much of a risk for whos name appears on the papers...that being me! probably best to do it like you and

rent a room at rellos place for 3 months

  14. With the pending change in availability of DE visa for us in Thailand (under 50, not married) im wanting to test the water

    on the following idea.

Obviously, not thought it out fully, but as is the nature of this forum will soon find out if at all possible and all

    the pitfalls.

Basically, the idea is to get another 3 reliable foreigners to share the initial and yearly costs of securing and renting a residential

    apartment abroad.

The idea is to have 4 parties who want to spend 9 months in Thailand and stay at an apartment in Australia for the other 3 months.

I am assuming the worst, in that this new METV will not be available to us in bordering countries, so a trip abroad for 3 months

would solve a few of the requirements (as we know so far anyway)

Of course, such an idea would limit the destination and citizenship of the players. In this case Perth, Australia, for

reasons obviously i am Aussie myself.

Also: Perth is only a 7 hour flight, can fly starting from 10k baht one way.

I also have relatives living there who could assist in finding/securing a place and helping with the lease provisions etc.

Before everyone goes rabid with flaming, i am proposing this for 2 other possible people i know well (aussies) but havent mentioned

anything as the whole thing is just a thought at this stage

    Any ideas/ comments ?

  15. So many sad stories of the treachery of Thai women. But in the loyalty stakes, and in cases of a woman spurned, i think they are

little different to women of any race.

Funny thing though, when you make suggestions of how to mix it with these women on the same level, guys on here (probably the same guys who do all

the moaning) seem to quickly jump on the womans rights, PC wagon, call you a chauvinist and attack you.

I once made a post many years ago and mentioned the word "training" in regards to developing a Thai ladys thought process/logic

to a point where both farang and Thai could understand each other on a "fairness" level.

Wow did i cop it. SO now i say Som Num Na to all those that got conned.

Me, im still ok. Ive trained a few to come around to my way of thinking and havent got done over.

A large part of that is the liberal application of a lot of BS. Like for instance, if a Thai lady hangs around in the case where

you tell her you will be pretty much dead broke for six months and cant afford this and that.. and maybe she'd be better off going and finding

    a rich farang.

Prevention is better than cure. Ive think ive dodged a few potential bad ones with that tactic.

Now that i think about it i could be complicit in the crime, if any followed my advice and went on to rip a few of you old fools off. haha

  16. Long since given up on all the speculation and BS on here as far as info on opening bank accounts in BK..

I went on a short trip to Surin recently and got an account with Kasikorn, no problem

needed no work permit, no yellow card ect ect

My passport was the only requirement, with the usual info needed

Got all the info, card, book and guide for internet banking..had to deposit 500, and pay 600 for the account itself

worth every penny both the the account and the trip to Surin, as have been trying the BK banks mentioned on this forum with no success on occasion during the lpast 2 years ive been coming here

would have deposited many k's when the aussie rate was 29-30 if i had this account before smile.gif

    no need embassy letter?

My post above, referring to my opening a bank account in Surin, would have to be many years old now. Ive had it for some time.

No, there was no mention of any embassy letter at that stage.

Seeing the way things have gone lately, id have no clue what is now required for a farang to get a bank account in Thailand.

I wouldn't be surprised if it is all but impossible these days, either in Bangkok or upcountry without a valid work permit.

I believe its not just the Thai system, but I think many countries all around are putting pressure on these kinds of regulations so they can keep an

eye on their nationals abroad..no doubt for taxation matters

  17. What could possibly go wrong? shock1.gif:shock1:shock1.gif

Anyone see and holes in my plan?

This is one hell of a soft loanshark.if I was him I would surely have got wind of the low price she was selling at snap it up myself.you are a lucky man.

    Exactly what i was thinking,

why wouldnt the loanshark take the property, cancel the girls debt and then sell it himself

and make and extra couple of hundred thousand profit?

Knowing Thais and their greed for money if it was doable theyd do it..doesnt make sense.

  18. Sheezuz what a rigmorole. And i thought buying property is ones own country was headache enough.

Here: laws against foreign ownership, a bunch of permits/processes/housebook rules you know little about, paperwork you cant read, cant get professional help cause you cant trust

trust em, rules that can change at any time or with any officials slash of a pen.

and if all thats not risk enough, the gf can kick you out on a whim and you've got no recourse whatsoever.

    balls of steel man!
