  1. If you have a car the Loei Palace is only 1000 baht per night including breakfast, was there only a couple of weeks ago and it was very nice.

Robot is ok went a couple of times, I am 45 and they dont5 seem to care about your age you would enjoy it just get into the groove.

There is some nice restaurants there Larchang on the highway is very good with very good service and the lighthouse on the lake was great with a little bit of live music and they do get the crowd involved if you are willing to get up and have a sing it was good fun.

The scenery in Loei is fantastic very picturesque.

  2. I am planning to spend 3 or 4 days in Cha Am just after songkran with the wifes family and am wondering on any nice places to see or do around the area.

I am planning to relax at the beach but if there is anything that fellow visa members can recommend would be much appreciated

  3. Two friends of mine have been there, both guilty.

It is not good, I have seen the court system, the corruption, etc. Life in jail is easier for foreigners, a lot worse for Thais.

I actually thought it would be the other way around. Far from home locked up in a small box with with 12 other people sharing a bucket as a toilet and bath. No gym, swiming pool, television, internet access, 3 sq meals a day, cigaretes, weekend leave to go to the movies and shopping, the opertunity to obtain a universty degree (study) full medical and dental coverage and even be paid an allowance to stay. Life in a Thai gaol for a farang would be hell compared to the 5 star resorts in places like Australia.

Here here mate my Wifes brother in Thai jail in a place near Si Quew or something like that, have visited once it was not nice as chooka said nothing like the 5 star prisons in Australia I work in one so I have a bit of an idea of the standards in Aus.

  4. I've stayed at both the Queens Garden and the Great Residence. For 1000 baht they both have pick up and delivery from the airport. Both are small hotels with clean, air conditioned rooms near one of the klongs off the river. I prefer the Great Residence, but only because there is a tiny bit more to do outside the hotel. There is a whole group of Thai cafes only a short walk from the Hotel. There is nothing to do near the Queens Garden. But, that is immaterial if you only want a place to sleep for a few hours.

The ONLY problem with the Great Residence is you MUST book on line. They no longer do walk in service.

Good to hear about the great residence, staying there Sunday week.

  5. Thats plenty, go for it.

But what are actually going to do here?

start by clearing my head out.......getting negativity out of my life

I hear you mate I work in an Australian prison and although not the extremes of a US prison the job can get you down.

I work in a pradominately Aboriginal prison and they all want to act like the Afro American gangsters and when I say act that is exactly what I mean a bunch of Di#k Heads.

  6. The last few times between Sydney and bkk the Thai Air flight shave been full. They have also been refurbished larger planes, with 3 -4-3 seats rather than 2-4-2 (2-5-2?..i dont pay much attention to that) like they used to have.

Their fares have also been coming down. They are often the cheapest option for direct now (through travel agent) cheaper than Qantas and Emirates. Emirates has far better service, while i much prefer Thai over Qantas/BA.

I have flown Perth Bangkok a few times with Thai and the service has been great, no complaints at all and it is direct.

  7. maybe as Qantas does not have a U in it after the Q (quantas as in the OP first post and also the URL).

the rate they are going they won't have U, me or anyone in them.

they lost me a long time ago money grubbing mongrels

Here here you wont see me flying with them a bloody rip off and very little customer service, I am very happy flying Thai and they are direct to Thailand.

  8. The road (210) is fine and is a lot less than 100 k,s from Udon to Nong Bua Lamphu.

About a 40 min drive At least half would be duel lane way if I remember.

  9. There is a great little lake about 20 km out with bamboo rafts where they sell great food and beer. Can be a very relaxing afternoon, a good family day. That is the place I like to go to.

2 months and 20 days until we arrive there, but who is counting.

  10. Was in Udon Thani a couple of years ago when I got picked up for driving in the wrong lane, he asked for my lisence which was Australian.

He told me next time you come to Thailand make sure you have international lisence and just waved me on, no interest in any fine he just seemed like a good bloke.

I am coming again later this year and one of the things to do yet is get my International lisence.

I have only paid coffee money once in my times in LOS

  11. I have been to one Songkran and had a ball, but one or two days is enough after that it is recovery time for me. Have to admit it is great fun and I reccomend to alot of my friends here in Australia. I took one mate last time and am bringing over a couple this time and no it is not the tourist areas it is up in Issan country where it is a family get together and lots of fun. clap2.gif
