  1. Yes I think they are spoiled my missus spoiles the hell out of our little boy.

He is a great little boy always happy but he has the missus wrapped around his little finger which she completely denies but everyone sees.

The wife said to me once that she wanted our son to have a better life than she had as a child, I guess you cannot argue with that.

My wife and her family treat our little boy so well when we are on holidays in LOS and my little fella just takes it all in the clever little bugger.

Just to note our little boy is very caring as well.

  2. I found Hellfire Pass very moving, there happened to be an old Digger who was visiting and listening to him was quite emotional the hardship they endured.

Well worth a trip for those interested in the history of the second world war.

I think that Hellfire Pass is run by the Australian Army.

Please cxorrect me if I am wrong

  3. Just watched Zimmerman on Foxtel and he was doing a special on Issan Country he spent some time in Udon Thani and surrounding farms I think it made me a little envious.

I need to get back to Issan Country soon,

He was eating foods I had eaten but a few I have not and to be honest be a little nervous about trying.

Rat I dont think I could ever eat a rat but he seemed to force one down and the innards of a cows guts while eating laab nouer.

I love Laab but I have never tryed the undigested guts of a cow.

    Anyone out there tryed either.

  4. It is a very nice place chaing khan will have the meekong coming down. they have a really nice market on the river and phu rua national park about 50km fropm loei is worth a look great views to see there hope you enjoy

  5. I have stayed at Loei Orchard hotel right in the middle of town near the roundabout a few times very nice and quite comfortable.

Around about 400 - 500 baht a night, they have a web page cannot remember exactly but im sure if you google it it will come up.

Enjoy Loei is a really nice place.

PS if you want to live it up a bit the Loei Palace is the gem of Loei a little old but the rooms are very nice around about 1300 baht.

  6. I love Udon Thani after many trips to the flashing lights im now so happy to fly into Udon and just cruise around so many young dudes now in pattaya im only 35 but it can be very noisy when your around the boys who visit the bars for the first time...

so for me in Isaan you will find me @ the wifes village bun phan in Nong Khai or in the Udon town... I LOVE ISAAN

Great place to get away from it all best thing about issan is the lack of tourists.

    It is the real Thailand

  7. We live between Udon Thani and Loei. Having traveled around Isaan quite a bit, I prefer Loei to all other locales. They recently opened a Tesco Lotus there so the shopping improved greatly with that addition.

The surrounding countryside is quite lovely, the weather is cooler year round, the highways are good, the infrastructure is good and well maintained and the traffic is less than nothing when compared to Udorn, Khon Kaen, Korat.

There is a 9 hole golf course at the Army base.

I doubt if there is a large farang community, although I do see a few of them from time to time in Lotus. There is a decent hospital with western standards in Loei as well.

Housing prices seem to be more reasonable than most other cities.

I still live in Australia but the wife is from Loei and that is where we will eventually settle.

Loei is a great place and I am looking forward to our next trip there, but if I had a choice it would be Udon Thani.

    It has everything you need

  8. I would never go to Tiger Temple after viewing pictures of some of the tigers and reading about their general neglect and abuse as reported by others. If you do a quick search you will see what i mean. I wouldn't ride an elephant either after viewing how some of these elephants are trained to perform. Engaging in an activity that at times leads to hitting an elephant with a sharp stick is not what I would want to be associated with. From what i have gathered, Thailand does not generally care about animal cruelty so i just avoid the animal performance venues.

I actually didn't ask for your opinion rather asked for recommendatsions on a reputable tour company. Why did you think I would be interested in your opinion. IF i had of wanted it I would have asked for opinions on tiger temple and elephant riding ?

You asked what is good and what is not. If you consider animal cruelty good I can only pity you. You sound like an angry little man.

I agree Tiger temple is no good, have been there once and will never do it again but the Erawan falls and hell fire pass is fantastic and I am sure your teenage kids would enjoy them both.

Hellfire pass for its history and pain the Australian soldier went through.

Erawan falls for the relaxation and scenes a great place to swim and relax for a day.

  9. I have been talking to my wife about bringing her niece a 7 year old out to Australia for a better life and education.

She is a great kid with a real personality and very smart, the future for her in Thailand is not so bright my wifes family is very poor and I understand to get a good education you need to be financial.

My question is how hard or easy or hard is it to get a visa for her to come and live in Australia full time almost adopt her i suppose.

Her father and mother have separated and she lives with her father who is a great bloke but has no money, he has already told my wife that it is a good idea for her to come out here and she is ready to come tomorrow.

I hope someone can help with some good advise.

    Thx

  10. I live in Australia but I have stayed at the Irish Clock really nice place.

Chaing Khan is a nice little place on the Meekong not far from where my wife is from Loei.

It is a nice drive from Udon to Chaing Khan along the Meekong very scenic.

    Enjoy your selves

  11. Ian love Kanchunaburi, do you have any photo's of Hell Fire Pass or the Erawan falls.

Hell Fire Pass should be a place everyone should visit just to see how hard the POWs really had it.

It definately bought a tear to my eye when I visited there a few years ago.

The Erawan falls is a great place to relax and swim.

  12. I work in a prison in Australia and phaodophiles are everywhere.

They are the most polite in prison but the most dispised.

The people who travel over seas to places like Thailand and other Asian countries have no morals

and do not deserve any type of understanding or care.

I honestly believe that chemical carstration is the only answer for these type of people.

  13. Couldn't go without my toasted ham, cheese and tomato.

Sticky rice covered in egg on the bbq would be my favourite issan food.

Oh and the leo is at the top as well as it seems to be a good supplement meal.

Dont forget the bacon and egg toasted sandwich with cheese your missus makes arroy mak mak mate

  14. Why does Thai fish always seem to taste 'earthy' or 'muddy' ?

I had a Thai friend taxi driver from Phuket who came to Loei for my wedding a few years ago and could not eat the fish because as you say it tasted like mud.

All he ever eats is sea food in Phuket so yes a huge difference between ocean and river fish.

I personally dont mind the rivrer fish but definately not my favourite issan food.

  15. I love alot of Issan food Laab Nua, Laab Phet I think that is duck,Pat Kapow Moo Kai Dow and I love the barbeque chicken and pork with Khou neow.

Som Tum Thai I love but the Som Tum Low not my cup of tea that pla rah just stinks to much for me :bah: .

I also love some of there breakfasts rice soup and the noodle soup is just arroy mak mak.

I do love to cook bacon and eggs every now and then when I am over there in fantastic Issan.

  16. just a question is it common to shave the baby"s head in Thailand, my wife wanted to do it and I was very hesitant about it.

Is it a Buddist thing or just Thai tradition.

I should just explain my wife is christian. Note the baby did not lose his hair.

  17. Can not remember exactly, I think around 80 to 100,000 baht.

But it was the best money spent food, drink, entertainment.

Probably the best party that I have ever been involved in,dancing girls on stage the side road closed just a great night.

Approximately 300 people,I knew about 10 people 4 of them aussie blokes that I met a week ealier in our hotel in Loei.

It really does not matter how much it costs if it is like my wedding it will be the best party you have ever been involved with.
