  1. Wow, seven hours...

When did you do it Robbo?

There's plenty of water in the Mekong up our way at the moment.

Mekong near the Golden Triangle 24/08/2010.

songkrarn time april 14 if I remember rightly but nice drive still the same

  2. Not sure if we're talking the same route, Loei isn't on 211.

    Where is Chaiyaporn?

The road I want to use closely follows the Mekong.

I drove the road about 3 months ago,its a good road but don,t expect miles of divided highway as it is single lane but usually in good condition and quite a scenic drive.

Really nice drive but do not drive it during songkrarn, Chang Charn to Nong Kai took me 7 hours.

Could not believce how low the river was never seen it like that

  3. I know it has been raised before but I am looking for confirmation.

My wife was talking to her sister and said that Tesco was being built in Loei near the airport

    Is this true?

  4. Interesting report on migrant labor Bruce, but it doesn't offer any info on US GUYS.....retirees/married/and teachers and seems a large amount of religious 'do gooders'.

I was surprised that there are nearly 1mil migrant [legal and illegal] workers here at almost any given time....most from Burma.

One personal observation up here in CM is what seems to be an increase of us falangs at least in my neck of the rice fields. 10 yrs ago, there was only 1 other falang in my area, but in the last couple of years, I've heard of at least 5 new falangs moving in.

I also wonder if the current state of insanity down south is scaring some other expats away??// have read quite a few posts on old timers wanting to pack it in and move away [before it gets any worse?].

Curious minds want to know how many of there are here and where we come from....

Agree when I first visited Loei 5 years ago never saw a westerner but now every time I go there are more and more

  5. Im a mad Freo supporter I think the long trip back from Brisbane took a bit of shine off them last night.

They looked very tired in the second half last night.

I think they will do quite well this year recruiting Adam Mcphee this year was a big mistake but had another bad game last night but the young players are doing really well.

    Go Freo

Your team is doing very well I think a certain finals contender and I predict 7th come finals.

    Saints man

Saints down to 7th Essendon won by 12 points.

Another big win for Geelong last night the Blues on a roll downing Port and Hawks just get over the line against Richmond by 3 points.

My tipping is going down the gurgler :)

  7. Just asked the wife if she is happy that I shave my head her reply was yeah better than have hair just on back of head. :)

And nothing more comfortable than having no hair flap around in the wind, combs brushes shampoo havnt used them for years :D

  8. When I first met my wife we went to a Korean BBQ the first one that I had ever been to.

Anyway we get our food and start cooking after all the food that we got I was absolutely chockers couldnt eat another thing when my now wife says you want more I replied no thanks but get some for your self no probs she came back with the same ammount of food I looked in shock and said you are not full yet her reply was oh yes very full but but 79 Baht.

I nearly fell off the bench in laghter

  9. Look I dont really care which way it goes I think Thaksin is so corrupt but know people in the poorer part of Thailand (issan) who say when Thaksin was in there roads improved they got running water in the villages they got rubbish pickups alot of good things were done but it is 50 50 to what I think :)

  10. No, most Thais think Farangs can't drive.

Yes, from what I have encountered that is exactly right. My other half put on a DVD of us in Australia, one section featuring me driving a car & it really stuck a chord with the thais in the room, they couldnt believe that I could drive a car (& I didnt appear to be hitting anything either).

Several of them are also the same people that suggested I couldnt and shouldnt ride a motorcycle in Thailand & I will point out that since that time I have covered a large amount of kilometres & out of all of us Im the only one not to have an accident in that time, actually a couple of them have had several accidents in that time :D:) .

Same with my wifes brother they all thought that I could not drive until one day after many trips between Loei and Udon Thani at 80 kmh I got pissed off and blue the cobwebbs out of the vehicle he had they never said another thing and I got to drive a bit more :D

  11. Man I hope not :D

PS I'm not a drinker, maybe I should be :)

I like to drink and even get drunk. The problem is that my body doesn't like it and punishes me for over-imbibing. Since I don't care to suffer with a two day hangover, I limit myself to a few beers a couple times a week. When I want an extra couple of beers, just thinking about how I will feel in the morning changes my mind. :D

I really enjoy it to. But, the same results :D

Sometimes I have already had those extra 2 drinks and then forget how I am going to feel the next day :D

  12. Just a question is it far from Loei, we arrive in about 4 weeks and a couple of days at Mukka sounds great and you do hay out for some good aussie lamb chops sometimes as every one well knows Thai food is great but but just to have a fix of western food is heavan :)
