  1. Probably around Soi Day/Night/

I've seen lots of people sashay around the streets there - and the breakfast offers are pretty good value.

But are they really doing Marmite ln sachets now? Never seen any. Suggest it to Villa Market or Friendship - they may take the trouble to import it, but it's probably an expensive way to get your daily vitamin B fix.

I'm a Marmite addict, sometimes have to resort to Vegemite, have a steady stream of people from UK. bringing VERY LARGE JARS here plus Boots Ear Plugs, more important than sustenance.

One told me that it is now banned in schools ,(didn't say you could not bring a sandwich), due to it's high salt content.

The prices here are ridiculous, but I suppose that goes for any imported food.

  2. Yea..had exactly the same. like being struck with a bat. Went to top hospital in BKK. X-Ray..well OK, but it's muscle.

Long wait, aged doctor says I probably have a heart condition. I queried that it was very coincidental with my fall.

He said "All you farangs just eat junk food (they have a MacDonalds in the hospital), and never take execrcise.

I pointed out I was a vegetarian who cycled a minimum 80 kms per day. He never listened. A nurse arrived to wheel

me to th cardiac room. I was shocked, it looked like the waiting room to hel_l, such was the haunted appearance of the

    waiting patients.

I insisted that she take me away, she refused, so like a miraculous cure at Lourdes I jumped up and hobbled away as

fast as possible, and made my way to Starbucks in the lobby. Five minutes later a search party found me, extremely

concerned that I had not paid the bill.

So, RICE as the guy says.

  3. Well, I would agree what the drivers from HP are the lousiest in the industry.

We had a similar problem with Color LaserJet 3600 if I remember correct. The accounting program of our customer was able to print to any printer except this one.

Contacted the developer and they said there is a bug in the HP drivers what is exposed by the third-party printing library they use, so they can't do much.

Well they come from the same place that produces the tainted milk, so what else to expect. I also believe the drivers are rubbish

  4. As Professor Joad would say "It depends what you mean by "near" and "hiking". I think for a general understanding the answer is NO.

THe only places that you may have a quiet lengthy walk are Prapadaeng, Rot fai Park and Buddamonthon at Sai 4.

Otherwise look at Google Earth and see if anything near enough is interesting.

There are some guys who bushwhack their own trails on the "mountain" range in Ban Chang, but it's not hiking it's...masochism. it's called geocaching

  5. it s better you buy thai school children uniform for her then pay 5 thb or if you dont enogh money for baht bus inform me I ll send you 100 bht I think

its enough for yor granddaughter holiday transportation

It staggers me that 5 baht 10 baht etc are worth writing about.

In Lotus once an old farang dropped one of those little brown coins, which I trapped under my foot, he caused considerable delay while searching assiduously and anxiously for it. I guess he lies awke at night wondering about it.

I wonder what plans he had for it.

Did the guy write for the 100 baht?

  6. 1. Get some brown rice, put in deep microwave bowl

    2. Put in tap water 25.4 mm above surface.

    3. Set Microwave to pretty hot

    4. Watch it does not boil over

    5. When you think it's done..can't see any water, mix in handful of raisins and cut apple, or whatever.

    6. Return to microwave for a while

    7. Remove and tip in Soya Milk (Sugarless), and/or delicious but you know what, fresh coconut milk.

Aloy mak and great for limited budgets.

  7. Thanks for that. :o

  8. Ok, if you come in to On Nut, park up at Carrefour and walk out onto the main drag, yr on Soi 77, loads of little shops selling kitchen stuff.

    I'm assuming you have transport.

I'm sure Patty would have similar stores?

TVM will buy and use near pattaya (15km south), the thought of living IN pattaya makes me feel faint.

    will keep you upated.

  9. Try the small chinese-thai general stores, they usually sell a lot of household plastics and hardware.

Usually run by mom & pop. :o

    Where are you?

    Hi half pattaya half bangkok

  10. It seems it's a no brainer that white rice has had all the nutrition beaten out of it, and is only carbohydrate, whereas brown rice has all the goodies..so why do we rarely see brown rice eaten in the Orient?

Also I have some black rice..not sure how to cook it..any ideas please..I am extremely limited as my wok post shows.

  11. Best wok material is old fashioned carbon steel.

You will need to season it with salt.

Best high temp oil is groundnut / peanut oil, if you can find it, it's what the Chinese chefs use without a flame up.

Don't forget to buy a copy of "101 Ways to Wok Your Dog" :o

Hi..Please advise where to buy carbon Steel wok, I've looked but only see Al, SS and Teflon..which I don't want

    Thank You

  14. Yes, start with very hot oil and after dropping in the mixture flip quickly and reduce heat to 'nothing'. Practise makes perfect.

TVM..by "flip" do you mean sort of toss it in air the so it turns over and lands other side up..If so do we practise with dummy things, I can imagine me and the stove being covered with boiling oil and egg mix.

  15. I know Silverlake Vineyard but what what confused me is the near Ban Amphur bit, it's probably futher away from Ban Amphur than Pattaya is and last time I was there it wasn't a winery, it was only selling grape juice.

    Have things changed?

I was there recently, it as you described.

btw I wanted to walk around the ATV area there,(there was no activity), I was stopped and told I must hire at least a bicycle,

(my $3000 Cannondale was in the car), but I said I would pay for a hire, but wanted to walk.

Cannot they replied. TIT as Bernard used to say..where is he now?
