  1. in all honesty I think they are all talking BS and misinterpreting the the rules, think there may be a rule about having an Non-imm visa to be issued a 5 year DL enforced in some places but as far as I know there are no such rules to be issued an IDP based on a 5 year Thai DL, after all an IDP is only an "official" translation of an existing DL, you already have a valid 5 year DL

I have had mutiple IDP's based on my Thai DL issued over the years from Mo chit and all they have ever asked for was a copy of the data page from my PP and copy of the 5 year DL

    Mo Chit....here I come..wherever that may be smile.png

Seriously, check the attachment. It is the document forwarded to me short while ago.

  2. Despite having 5 years valid car and motorcycle licenses I was denied IDP earlier today at Phuket LTD. I need IDP for vehicle rentals in Europe, otherwise in case of accident insurance is void.

PE visa, which is valid for 5 years is in fact tourist visa. They said in order to obtain IDP I need at least non-O visa even if it's valid for 3 months only. Same goes for renewal of 5 year license. Also, I was told that if I lose (5 years) driving license they will replace it with 1 year license unless having non-o visa.

Spoke to TE reps and there is nothing they can do about this. 3 months non-o visa has more validity then 5 year PE visa. Quite disappointed. Guess I have to run to Penang and get myself non-o.

  3. Why should they disclose it. This is just really an online forum.... I would not be surprised if they have them as a paid advertiser - makes sense on both sides..... each person has to evaluate the option and figure out if it is worth it for them. I have decided it is worth it for me and will probably purchase it next month (just started a new contract).

Paid banner ads above the fold or between posts as TV has, are clearly distinguishable by a user as ads, and your logic would apply there.

However when the premise of the actual site's content is an impartial forum on visa advice, and moderators recommend the TE program within posts in reply to user questions, at that point an affiliate relationship should be disclosed. Assuming the site wants to keep its integrity.

Why affiliate connections should be disclosed, and are often required to be -

    Thanks for your mature reply.

Bias, really? What do you care Mr. concerned citizen. This forum trying to make money and you have a problem with that. Using your logic hundreds of other adverts on the site should be biased too? Some of you guys really need to get a life.....

This member jumping on me adds weight to my argument.

And my argument of you most likely being a geeky high school snitch in the past 1zgarz5.gif

  4. Just thought as thai visa are sales reps for the cards they might do a little extra for there members and save me a trip.

As far as I know Thai Visa forum is not a sales rep for Thai Elite.

I'd be interested in a definitive answer. After TV started emailing newsletter subscribers TE adverts, I started a thread asking if TV are sales reps. It was instantly deleted.

It should be disclosed if they are as then members can be aware that posts on these boards may have affiliate bias.

  5. I hope this detail changes soon, as "might" the rule that gives us only a 1-year renewal eligibility for a Thai's driver's license instead of the 5-year you are entitled, after the full 1-year probationary license expires. Since the PE is a special "tourist visa", The D of LT only currently observes non-tourist visas for the 5-year renewal privilege, but was emailed back from TE that they are "working with the DLT" to try and change this.

jryanb, please keep us posted on this. I already have 5 year valid driving license but require IDP issued by Thai LTD. As you probably know, IDP is given only to those with non-tourist visas and 5 years valid licenses. I asked the TE guy who met me in BKK Immigration about this but he had no clue.
