  1. Ahhhhh, arrived!

After 7 months wait, my K1600GTL just arrived from Germany to Barcelona Motors, Phuket.

Manager called and said lots of folks in showroom asking to see the bike or even test drive lol......

He won't let them, still in the box and nobody gonna sit on this baby before me!

    Pics coming soon!

  2. Hey people,

Just received phone call from good riding buddy of mine telling me about bad accident. It involves 3 Phuket based sport bike riders. One of them is member of this forum and I believe his ID is Blade or Blade1, real name Anthony. He rides 2010 red Ducati 848. The other is Khun Somnuk, owner of bike repair shop located at Thepkasattri Rd - opposite BMW Barcelona Motors showroom. Third guy is another Thai, nickname Boy. Apparently, somewhere near Lampang in Northern Thailand, some crazy woman driving Toyota Camry lost control of her vehicle and smashed into these 3 guys while they were idle at traffic light. She hit Khun Somnuk first, his bike bounced over smashing other 2 bikes while car was dragging him for 20-30 meters. According to my friend, his helmet split in half just as dam_n coconut, rest of the protective gear totally destroyed but it saved his life. He is currently in Lampang hospital and all I know is that he is still alive. The other 2 guys sustained injuires but not as bad as Somnuk. All the bikes are destroyed, local repair shop quoted them total of Baht 900,000 for repairs.

Btw, Somnuk is one of the best riders I had pleasure to ride with. He is fast, daring and incredibly skillful rider.

Anyway, I have lost Anthony's and Somnuk's phone numbers and was wondering if anyone can get in touch with them and update us on their situation.

I do believe Katabeachbum and Scubabuddha might be able to get more info on this.

  3. I was afraid it would come to this even though it is the most ridiculous thing you could expect. Who are the people making these decisions? As it isn't bad enough we can't have 95 octane but phasing out 91 too? When 95 was removed from market in March 2010, sport car owners in BKK almost started the riot. So, what about us with bikes? Recommende fuel for most of the big bikes is 98 and 95 but we were using 91 and suffering....Sport bikes running on gasohol.....dam_n...Thai bike mechanics gonna love it..

  4. Booked this baby (K1600GTL), so far first order in Phuket. Sold my ZZR1400 to Paddy but unfortunately he lost his life in tragic accident 10 days later (http://www.thaivisa...._1#entry4442959), may he Rest in Peace.

Price is Baht 1,450,000 OTR excluding insurance but Barcelona Auto manager gave us discount of Baht 50,000.....my wife jokingly asked for price reduction and to our surprise he agreed. Bike is coming straight from Germany, full option except GPS gadget, have to pay extra for that. GT version won't be available in Thailand.

Delivery scheduled for January 2012. Choice of 2 colors only: blue and silver. 2 units sold in BKK already.

Attractive financing package from BMW in house Financial Services. Take a look at attached image, it includes details for all other models available for sale in Thailand.

Interesting, same bike in Malaysia costs Baht 1,680,000.....but manager over there showed me order list with over 60 bookings!!! According to him, Gold Wing riders are switching over.

  5. Condolences to his friends and family. RIP

When you say "team" do you mean racing team?

Is it just me or does Phuket seem like an unusually dangerous place to ride?

    Stay safe everyone!

Not racing team Tony, it is a group of Thai guys that ride with well known Phuket sport biker and mechanic, Khun Somnuk. If you recall, once I described him as most daring rider I've ever had a chance to ride with.

According to unconfirmed reports, both of these accidents took place at notorious stretch where 4 of my other rider pals had accidents. Not sure what happen this time but all my friends had an accidents because of small bikes cutting accross the lanes.

  6. This happened yesterday. He was a member of Khun Somnuk's team. He lost his life somewhere along Thepkasattri Rd while riding sport bike.

This is the second death involving high powered sport bike within last 24 hours on Phuket roads. May he rest in peace.

  7. Paddy O' Mahony, the owner of Paddy's Inn Apartments and Rooms has died at 6am this morning in motorcycle accident. Details about accident are yet to be released.

He was a sport bike enthusiast and very nice man. Just 4 weeks ago we were sitting at my home and exchanging biker tales. Can't believe he's gone now. R.I.P.

My sincere condolences to his wife and children.

  9. Thanks for posting the pics.

Now i can identify these loons and keep driving when i hit their checkpoint.

Have you not been listening? We have no checkpoints. Whoever brio1955 saw was not a farang Highway Police Volunteer nor a member of Ghostriders. AFAIAC, until this alleged video is provided to prove otherwise, it didn't happen.

Yeah Scuba, nothing surprises me anymore on this forum full of old lonely grumpy folks with no life....this fella is either an idiot or someone who detest biking culture.

There is a hardly a topic on Thai Visa without sarcastic remarks and jealousy. I am a member of dozen various forums worldwide but Thai Visa has some of the most insecure members I ever seen.

  10. U

Not too sure what the current volunteer organisations are. Bear in mind that the volunteers who work for Thai immigration and from Kathu police station do not fall under the responsibility of the Thai Tourist Police.

My personal view? Too many splinter groups, no common standard applied nationally to all volunteers, too much 'my pet police team' for local police bosses, too little volunteer continuous assessment/monitoring, too little relevant and ongoing training, too few Thai speakers - too little commitment by Thai authorities to invest in and support a professional team of foreign volunteers - and so on and so on...

I am maybe one of the very few who held a police volunteer visa, but it was a hassle to obtain

Apart from that - it's all fine :) Every Saturday night, I relished the opportunity to get my nose broken (or worse), as I tried to separate drunken tourists who were fighting...

There are some very dedicated and good people working as police volunteers. There are also some who should perhaps be wearing the handcuffs that they carry.

    Simon

All of you saying that volunteers cops dont need a WP are wrong...You are in fact breaking the law whilst being the law enforcers!! Because. to make life easier it is not enforced,,this is also illegal!! How bl--dy ironic is that.

We were watching at the police roadblock on last Monday night on Siriraj RD...We were actually upstairs in a guesthouse videoing the goings on. Remember the Thai guy comming from the south, without a helmet..YES?? sees the cops and does a quick U-turn and heads back to the south again..yes? NEXT THING A FARANG WEARING THE "G....... RIDER" PATCH ON A KAWASAKI TAKES OFF LIKE A MANIAC IN PERSUIT AND GET THIS....THIS PRETENDER HAS A SIREN AND FLASHING LIGHTS GOING OFF!!!! FAR FROM LEGAL HUH! Anyway im telling the thai guys i'm with "i'll post this on youtube [both the club and the police will enjoy that, but i think simons advice to report this is going to have more effect in removing this guy as he is obviously "one of the bad eggs!!" Come April "solly we not want you play police more"

Talking about Ghost Riders MC? With all due respect, I think you are seriously mistaken. Not calling you a liar but we don't hang around on street corners and chasing fellow riders....Our activities are ride, ride and ride, no politics and similar bullshit let alone pretending to be Law Enforcement.

1st, we don't wear a patch but black long sleeve t-shirts with team logo at the back. There is only one rider who has a patch on the vest and that is me, and never use it anyway....I should know because I started this club and made those patches.

Yes, I am farang and ride Kawasaki but have no police lights or siren. There are multiple Kawasaki owners in our team, only one of them has a police lights but no siren and he is Thai, not farang. After all, I'm not even certified HPV even though there is a sticker on bike windshield, 1000's of other bikers have it too.

The only time our members helped as highway police volunteers was during Ghost Riders anniversary back in October 2010. None of them works with highway police at island roadblocks.

There were 3 Kawasaki's: Scubabuddha's green 650 R, Katabeachbum's white 650 R, Thai guy (Khun Chee) I mentioned above riding silver GTR 1400 and our Franko/Dutch member John with Harley Night Rod. That is it, nobody else is a certified volunteer except another Thai member (Khun Seree) riding grey BMW K1200S. Take a look at their pics bellow and let me know if it's one of them which I seriously doubt anyway.

Love to see that video, I would sure recognize the rider no matter what club or group he belongs to.

  11. Lol...so much sarcasm in this tread. At the end all comes down because guy owns 60 ft yacht and rest of you don't.

Seriously, if any of you owns expensive yacht and have no choice but to use those waters, wouldn't you at least try asking for help? No harm asking...Just because someone put word "demand" in title of this thread it doesn't really mean they were demanding but merely asking. God forbid something happens to these people and their 2 year old child...

  12. to pull a larger crowd, you may want to invite a sports bike club like the Ghostriders next time

but all in all, well done :)

Katabeachbum, we were there from 1pm when group ride took place. We actually expected to be better than last year especially since it was organized for worthy cause. Perhaps memories from perfectly organized Southern Big Bike Charity are still fresh in our minds and comparing these 2 events does no justice to NHBE2. At SBBC Saphan Hin everyone was happy and friendly, awesome group ride, beautiful bikes, great media coverage, colorful evening parties and charity auctions. As few posters mentioned, drunk farangs at the gate were bit of embarassment and moody biker groups each in their own corners ....anyway, we looking forward to next year and even bigger and better organized event.

I do have some video clips but nothing special really....will post them later on.

  15. From the early 50's we (USA) learn not to trust the Russians, now it's Thailand turn to learn.

Who cares, rest of the world distrusts USA since 1991.

    1 word.. Compete !!

Even in the non Free market, one with work permits, taxes, restrictions and a FAR higher cost of operating.. Visitors are still using non Thais ?? The concerned Thais should try to analyze why that is.. Take a long look in the mirror and wonder why a Russian can operate at a lower cost for a better service than a Thai is able to, given the huge disadvantage that the non Thai faces in every aspect of business.

Instead the Thai solution is not t think, improve or compete its cartels, blocking competition, lowering quality of service, keeping monopolistic pricing.

As they do this Thailand starts to overtake Euro destinations in costs and prices, for far inferior services, then they wonder why Tourists are spending less freely. Big picture world view is absent from the thinking.

    Ditto!

  16. I bought 2 Persian silver tubbies at that sunday market in Hongyok road something....that was 5 years ago. Lady who sold them to us is still there. Check it out.

The other day, I saw some cats for sale in Supercheap too, kept in small cage right next to seafood stalls. Not persians but not ordinary cats either, medium fluffy...perhaps those are the Burmese.
