Out of curiosity, are you limited to certain Thai banks? And (like for US gov't pensions direct deposited abroad) do you have to physically present yourself to withdraw the money?
Thanx.
NO but some Thai Banks are better than the others
-
My UK Pension has been paid directly to a Thai Bank Account since the facility became available. Very punctual with slightly better exchange rates than any Thai Banks.
Of course the future amounts are frozen as per your first payment amount. I call it theft and to get this unfair "rule" changed there have been many unsuccessful attempts so far.
UK Bank Account costs are also prohibitive I believe?

Any problems with the shops in Pirom Plaza?
Also looking for 35 mm film and a suitable Processor in Bangkok. Are there any left these days?

Armstrong model, Trek 1600 road bike, size 53 cm, straight top bar, blue and silver aluminium frame, carbon forks, Shimano clipless pedals, Shimano 105 twin chainset, Tiagra brakes, bottle and cage, frame pump and nice Richey saddle.
Bike is like new with only very minor scratches to one brake lever.
It was purchased from Probike about 5 years ago who have suggested a selling price of Baht 12,000 to 15,000.-
Can be viewed near to Laksi Island, Ramintra Road.
Please send personal message for further details and discussion on price.

I don't think any of the naysayers who have replied actually have the experience of costs outside Bangkok, Pattaya etc.
In fact, the prices for Accommodation in particular, eating out and so on are considerably less than the Bangkok scene. Some commodities are slightly more expensive.
The OP could succeed easily in provincial Towns for sure and enjoy a pleasant life..
The only problem I can see are the Visa issues.
-
I have lived here for 25 years, eat Western food and have a Thai wife who works. We don't share expenses but the only thing we can't jointly afford at the moment are expensive holidays and the like.
-
Far too high Mr Soul!
Blimey, I live on considerably less now, around $500 a month, but the OP would need extra cash for Visa costs, travel etc.
-
Thanks.
My Doi Saket single estate beans cost Baht 750 but I know that the Verizon Shops are rather expensive. Nice coffee though.
-
What do you consider to be a reasonable price? Less than Baht 200 for 250 grams or higher?
-
Try Central Lardprao for a burr grinder or Fashion Island.
I have tried Hilkoff peaberry from Ratika which was quite nice. Their blends are quite cheap.
-
As man and wife it is quite normal to help each other with the respective languages.
But teaching the wife's' pupils is clearly not permissible in that scenario.
-
Anybody know where I can buy Doi Chaang beans in the Laksi area?
-
You don't need photos of jointly used wardrobes any more. Photos of the happy couple inside and outside the house with house number showing are sufficient at BKK.
-
And absolutely no sign of flooding approaching it from Laksi.
I drove there last Thursday.
-
OK, I did the 90 day report this afternoon. Waited less than 15 minutes.
Chaeng Wattana Road from Bang Khen rounabout had a couple of wet patches and no flooding anywhere up to and past the Government Complex.
-
Many thanks Mario.
Chaeng Wattana is more suitable as it is near to my home and my intended shopping :jap:.
-
On an associated topic any recent updates on the flooding in Chaeng Wattana road as I plan to drive there tomorrow and do some shopping on my way home.
I'm too old to be climbing onto Army lorries and if necessary I could take the MRT to Chamchuri Square instead.

Well said with a retirement extension being the easiest and quickest one to obtain.
As requested please identify which Immigration Office will be used and the way you wish to provide the financial details.
-
Have you checked how many Thai Staff you need to obtain a Work Permit?
I think around 4 to 6 but don't know the precise details.
-
At least it was worth checking. Interesting that the Captain had been moved to Suan Plu although they never told anybody that Staff had been temporarily moved. Presumably a person of higher rank signs when a particular Captain is absent due to illness?
Being normally less than 10 minutes flood free drive from Chaeng Wattana I would have made an effort to go there expecting normal service which may of course still be available.
-
The Immigration requirements are that the funds are accessible at any time.
Up to the Officer whether your method is accepted. Last time I looked there were a few term deposits available with reasonable interest rates offered which were always accessible BUT of course if you withdraw any cash you immediately lose the better interest rates.
-
Normally the Captain who countersigns the Application documents will sign the actual extension stamp. Hence I suspect Suan Plu may reject you.
Better to ask them if you can.
-
The problem is being flooded in and not being able to go anywhere. And when local post offices are closed due to the flooding, even 90 day reporting is impossible by boat.
I think Thai Visa should ask the Immigration to relax the rules until it is practical to comply with them.
-
Given that a recent Poll indicated the Governments' failure to address the flooding problem by appointing people not qualified for the jobs they were given, that the PM was recently given full marks for determination and no marks for ability, that her instruction to pump out Don Mueang Airport by last Friday has also failed miserably (totally impossible) indicates to me that the Government, the PM and FROC are totally incapable of understanding and handling water management.
If you live with Thais and amongst them, you will know that nobody trusts the Government and FROC anymore but they now have an even greater respect for the Bangkok Governor, the Army Commander and his troops for the dedication and efforts demonstrated over the last few weeks to help people in distress.
Content Of Bank Letter
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Posted
BAY Head Office does all the Bank Letters, scans them and sends them to the Branch in less than one hour. You just fill in a request form at the Branch. Two months ago I did this one day prior to my application with no issues at Chaeng Wattana.
