Ah! The Thaiger at it again. This lot are just pitiful. Apart from being a ChatGPT generated article I thought I would Google images of Haew Narok waterfall. There are many images of this waterfall and this is just one.

This is what I found when I Googled "drought landscape with sun in background." Look familiar???????????

Thailand has been facing a decline in Western tourists for a decade now. There are a dozen good reasons why Westerners don't visit Thailand as much as they used to. I was recently in Phuket and I would estimate the population of foreigners was 40% Russian, 20% Arab, 20% Malaysian and Chinese, 15% Indian, and about 2% Westerners and a sprinkling of some others. It was a low end crowd.

The sad truth is that Thailand is not doing anything to improve itself they are making absolutely no effort to tackle air quality environmental issues traffic congestion or any other problems plaguing the nation. It seems to be a combination of sloth lack of vision and extreme arrogance.

Surely this is a good thing as it will help tackle the overtourism mentioned in another thread on here. Unless they want less tourists but more Brits. And why wouldn't they.

I wonder what's up with all the hate against Thaksin in this forum? He's no better or worse than any other ultra-rich person in Thailand (all of whom have been up to things that would lead to a defamation lawsuit against anyone bold enough to point it out..) Controversial he is, but to his defence, at least he was a prime minister lawfully elected by a majority of the people, ousted by a military junta guilty of far worse than him...

That's true. However it seems it was him who, despite promises, made sure that those apparently guilty of far worse than him, were never brought to justice.

I had this thread on autorefresh and put it on the TV in the living room. Told everyone in the house if they noticed a change they were to tell me immediately. Not gonna lie it made falling asleep not as easy recently. But my heart was filled with joy today when I saw your latest report from the front.

You are way too modest. These pictures are nothing less than majestic. Jesus Christ himself would have been jealous of a ring of light as majestic as that. The second to last image has something... holy about it. It's as if it shined a light directly onto my soul. I feel truly blessed by having the chance of looking at it. I do worry though that riding your motorized vehicle on public roads might cause others to crash as their attentioned gets involuntarily drawn to your symbol of divinity.

Yes, a very well thought out consideration. You might inspire some kids when they see greatness but you might also gather jealousy when guys realize they'll never be able to rise to such a level of pure competence but have to whitness the panties dropping left and right. Remember: With great power comes great responsibility.

I don't know why, but I get the impression you're not taking this seriously

But for me. we need to stop the boats right now. ( halt asylum at our shores)

We have no idea who these people are, they destroy there documents before setting sail from France, and have a ready made bunch of BS answers to start the asylum process. all 100% lies.

The uk public does not deserve to have these POS in there communities.

let alone paying for it all.

Yes your right,  the government could do more to help the uk homeless.

but it's all on the back burner with the heat turned off.

There seams to be many more agender's highlighted on the Tv at weekends that are more important then the uk homeless.

That seems to contradict itself, plus it makes a a huge generalisation and I doubt with any evidence. Yes some do that and it's difficult to prove someone's religion or sexual orientation but how do you know that it's "all 100% lies". If it were that easy then they would be refused asylum, unless you have a talent for investigation that the Home Office doesn't

I can't remember the percentage of asylum claims that are upheld but it's a majority. Some they will get wrong, but most they won't

The health service missed Harold Shipman and Lucy Letby, that doesn't mean we should stop having nurses and GPs.

Wow what a joyful day! Finally a conclusion to the saga! It's been an intense two weeks. I have to confess I already was thinking maybe he got lost in the maze of screws, nuts and panels as there was no life sign to be found. A snake could have been hiding under the covers. He could have suffered an electric shock. It's a dangerous world out there! But you persevered and made it all the way to the end. Next time we meet the drink's on me!

I don't know if it's too much to ask but.... could you post a picture of final triumphant bulbous machine?

Sorry for the delay. I'm sure you've been checking regularly for this post. Unfortunately I've been busy organising flights and accommodation for a trip to the UK, plus burying one of our dogs that died.

I've included one of the old bulb. I took it as it's easier to read the writing but you can see it's blown. The pictures in my original post were taken with my camera but these are from my phone so aren't as good. It's not easy taking pictures of lights that are on.

I'm wondering if a tour around the country showing off my skills is in order. Maybe not. I wouldn't want anyone attempting and failing at this based on my ability to make it look so easy.

Tax Cuts thanks for the giggle.

But asylum should be halted right away for the uk.  and re-assessed on all levels.

Way to much pish taking going.

Maybe we need to deal with it better. Other countries manage it.

Asylum, illegal immigration and legal immigration are difficult problems but I'm not sure just trying to stop it will have much success. It seems to be more of a problem under the Torys than it was before. My guess is that it's a useful problem for them as they can claim to have the answer if they are re-elected and other smaller parties can use it as well. Not unlike the Trump backing Republicans in the US.

To be honest the numbers coming over in small boats isn't that big, it's the danger of the crossing which is more of a problem. This is something the government is claiming is their main concern, although I'm not entirely convinced. A big problem is that in most cases, with the exception of the schemes for those from Afghanistan, Ukraine and Hong Kong, you have to be in the UK to claim asylum. I seem to remember that at a select committee hearing last year a government minister was asked what options there were for those wishing to seek asylum, to do so from outside the UK, since the government were pushing for changes to exclude those who entered illegally from claiming asylum. They had no answer to that.

None of this helps the homeless, who could probably aided if the government wanted to. I think there are more homeless people now, and certainly more using food banks. Maybe seeing why might help.

A further option, as referred to by @Liquorice, would be to return to Thailand after 6 June with a 30-day visa exemption which you could then convert to a fresh non-O visa for marriage at your local immigration office, as set out in the following link:-

    https://www.immigration.go.th/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/6.FOR-PROVIDING-SUPPORT-TO-OR-BEING-A-DEPENDANT-OF-A-THAI-CITIZEN-SPOUSE-VISA-NON-O.pdf

If I were to be delayed it wouldn't be the end of the world as I could always apply for a new visa. It just usually takes more paperwork. If I have to do it I will but hopefully I can avoid it.

Truly hope all goes well for you, but am paranoid

about these things and even when here never

leave it to the last week to go for my extension.

You never know what they a will come up with.

This year had a major run-in because name in

bank book did not match passport, middle name

was missing. This after a dozen extensions

at same office, with same mis-match.

Given the choice I wouldn't do it like this, and I have changed plans to work round it. Originally I planned on returning to Thailand in late June, but that would have meant applying for new visa which is more paperwork. Then I was looking at Friday 31st May or the next day to take advantage of the holiday weekend, but that was cutting it a bit fine so now I'll be back early morning on the 27 May. I changed my outbound flight to about a week earlier to get back some of that time.

    Yes.

But you just claim asylum and it's open sesame.

and it's game on,  for countless years, scamming the system.

All at the uk tax payers expense.

    It  needs to stop now.

Don't see asylum seekers living on the streets.

But I see my fellow countrymen on the streets, in every town and city

    throughout the uk.

What a disgrace it all is.

And yes I'm am a uk Tax payer like many here. :jap:

If asylum seekers and any other immigrants were just refused entry, do you think the government would suddenly house those on the streets, or use the money for tax cuts? Probably for the rich. Especially since some in government think homelessness is a lifestyle choice. One that seems to increase in popularity under a Tory government.

Asylum seekers are provided for because they aren't allowed to work. Some countries, I think France is one, allow some to find employment to support themselves.

Homelessness is a disgrace, as you say but I don't think it's as closely connected to asylum seekers as you appear to suggest.

I agree with you that there's not much talent to choose from on either side but my main issue with Cameron was the complete lack of planning for what should happen if people voted for Brexit.

No matter how remote he thought the chances of it happening were (& as we all know it did happen) he should have had a plan (or at least a plan for how to put a plan together) for what to do, but it felt like he had nothing & just ran away leaving it to others to pick up his mess.

I'm not saying that achieving Brexit is easy, nearly 8 years later there still doesn't seem to be a truly workable solution, but to be in that position & have absolutely no plan for what to do following the referendum is unforgivable.

    Yes true.

To be honest I think Boris Johnson backed the best idea, which probably came from Dominic Cummings. The idea was, in the event of a leave vote, which wasn't expected, negotiations would take place with the EU. This would be similar to those undertaken earlier by Cameron, but with the extra leverage of the leave vote. I don't know what could have been achieved but that was certainly when we had the strongest hand. I'm guessing the idea Cummings had was to calm the fears of those on the fence, that voting leave was a dangerous, one way leap.

Thailand remains faithful to it's shameful record of the highest road accident death toll in the world. Sad for the victims. If only Police corruption was stopped and the cops started to do their jobs,  instead of chasing only the foreigners to racket money.

I don't think Thailand has the highest death till in the world, A lot probably depends on how you count deaths. It seems Thailand doesn't count it as a road death iunless it occurs within 24 hours.  That may be wrong but I've never had anyone dispute it.

Thailand seems to move between 2nd and 5th, at least in the years I was checking. Still Shangri-la and, as you say a lot has to do with the police.

No idea how he was let back into the government never mind Foreign Secretary (Though it wouldn't surprise me if he's prime minister once Sunak gets the push).

Life is the farce which everyone has to perform

He's one of the best performing ministers to be honest. Shows how shallow the talent pool is these days.  Sunak isn't doing too bad but he's not got the ability to enthuse people.  Plus he's come in at a time when the Torys are unpopular and it's not really possible to turn things round.

As for the visas, that sounds good excerpt I've just paid for a 10 year visa for my wife. It'll probably last longer than me.

If something happens so you are not back in time just get an e-visa from London, usually fairly quick, mine was about 48 hours.

I went back in Sept to renew my passport and expected to get both passports back at the same time. However I was told the old passport would come back about 10 days after the new which if it had materialised would have been after flight back. Rather than change the flight I just applied for an e-visa. I was prepared for a hicup and had available the required information and used the funds in Thai account, all very straightforward.

My old passport did come back shortly after the new so I then had the choice of returning on the re-entry permit or the new visa, I opted for the new visa. A bit like you my extension was due to expire shortly after returning so using the visa gave me a bit of breathing space before going to immigration.

    All about personal choices.

That sounds a good idea.  I'm not expecting any problems but it's always good to have a back up plan just in case.

Yes, that's what I've got.  I never looked before as I was certain it was single entry.  It was only after she mentioned it to me that I remembered getting it. It was certainly single entry before.

Things have been a bit complicated around flights which has distracted me a bit.  I've had problems paying with my credit card as I don't seem to receive the OTP code. My Lloyd's debit card stopped working as well until I phoned them, and if I tried logging in on their website I couldn't receive the OTP from them either. Oddly Qatar, Airbnb, NHS, my wife here and my bil in the UK don't have a problem.

    Anyway, sorted now.
