  1. Just got he information, that some consulates are giving out the Non Immigrant O 1 year Multi Visa if you are visiting friends.

So my question now is, what informations they are asking you for handing out such a Visa and if there are any required documents.

Further more I would like to ask you if the fees for a Non Imm. O Visa for visiting friends are the same as a regular Non Imm. O Visa for, let´s say visiting your wife/fiance or whatever....

    I guess so.

  2. Not sure about bangkok, but I don't buy many electronics here because of the generally inflated prices/tax. I bought one in the US from amazon just this past week for a bit under 14000 baht.

yes thb 14000,- is a good price, even though you can already get it cheaper in the us. unfortunately you have to stick around with the prices you are getting offered and can´t just order from abroad due to high tax fees.

i think in germany i could get the 1000he for about thb 15000,- and just if i buy it through my company to get the 19% VAT back. Otherwise it would cost me about thb 18000,- as a regular basis customer.

so it´s a pretty good deal. even though there comes no XP with the netbook or you just get a copy, cause they are reselling your original XP.

But I don´t really care. if it is a copy or not doesnt make the OS any better :o

  3. The TZ7 is one of the new breed of cameras that records in high definition, albeit in a reduced size. The format is called AVCHD Lite and it records HD at 1280x720.

I have just picked up the FT1 which is the waterproof version, and the quality of the video is gorgeous. Oh, and you can zoom while recording too. I bought the camera to make watersport videos so haven't really checked the still images, but Panasonic have a good reputation, particularly with the LX3.

If you are looking for a camera to do movies, AVCHD Lite capable models may give you the best quality video.

yes the AVCHD format makes it possible to record in very good quality. but it also depends on which converter you are using.

I have seen vids that were recorded in AVCHD with a bald quality that did not remember in HD at all and I have seen vids that were recorded with exactly the same camera and rec. options and they were stunning.

  4. ...i was also planning to get a new cam and thought about the tz7...unfortunately i don´t know the price for that cam.

do you know what the tz7 would cost?

I haven't seen that one yet, either. I have the TZ3 and it was 17,990 nearly two years ago. I remember being really, really pissed off that you couldn't zoom while taking a video. (Funny how they don't mention what features you can't use in all modes :o ) The new one you can, although some reports say the auto-focus is very slow.

I wouldn't be surprised if the TZ7 is about the same cost, maybe slightly less.

i do also think that it is in that price range....

tried the cam a couple of times here in germany and must say that the autofocus is a bit lacky, but for that you have a better wide angle lens and more zoom than the previous model.

i really like what they stuffed into that cam. even though i am a fan of dslr´s and haven´t been using regular digicams for years now.

i think the tz7 got me back to normal digicams a bit :D

normally i don´t record videos, because the quality you get isn´t worth to run around with the device, but the tz7 does a hel_l of a job when it comes to video recording in the digicam-class.

a well done hybrid cam that gets better and better when rolling out their new models, even when the differences are getting slightier...but better! :D

for getting the same or a little bit better than the tz7, you also have to be ready to pay more. not to mention that "better" cams are bigger and just on one side better and on the other side loose some points on some specifications.

i heard that the tz7 uses a different battery, so you can´t use your old ones from the tz3. if that´s true it´s no big deal, because the new ones have longer battery time...

and the dimension compared to the tz3 did shrink a little bit.

still one question: when will the prices for sdhc cards drop? a bitter taste when on the road and wanting to film some scenery and stuff and you don´t want to use the crappiest video quality.

maybe the cards are cheap in th, bu i can just talk for germany or the moment, cause i am still in the gilded cage :D

  5. I couldn't recommend the TX1, it has some major lens flare issues in bright light. I've used the SX1 IS but only for stills. A friend has it so I can shoot some video if u want a sample clip.

Thanks for the info about the TX1. I really like the look of it and it's nice and small.

About the SX1 IS - that's a very kind offer, but there's really no need - I'm quite happy to read reviews and watch the videos that they contain.

I did go to a shop today and ask about the SX1 IS - they didn't stock it and she said it cost "eleven thousand three hundred baht".

I said "Are you sure it's eleven thousand - I think it's a lot more."

She then checked the figures and started saying "Song meun pun..." :o

So I pointed out that that was 21,000 not 11,000! :D

Pity there's no legal way of holding her to the original price she quoted!

that would have been a bargain :D

i was also planning to get a new cam and thought about the tz7...unfortunately i don´t know the price for that cam.

do you know what the tz7 would cost?

  6. hey guys,

i was planning to buy the new Asus EEE 1000HE and thought to buy he netbook in/around Bangkok and would like to ask if somebody knows the price for exactly that netbook and where to get.

I am not in TH at the moment, but will be there soon and thought I getting it over there would maybe be cheaper....

    let´s find out :o

found a price that is about THB 16000,-....Is that price ok or do you know where i can get a better one than this?

  7. hey guys,

  8. for 80% import tax i would grab the stuff with me into the plane...

tried to get the tariff through the custom website, but the two categories havent been in the list.

wrote them an email, but did not receive any answer, yet.

hope i´ll find someone who can get me the correct rates.

so what about forgetting some money on the table. does that make them forget to pay tax or do the guys at the counter don´t care and have their tea money already in that duty price and grab their part afterwards?

  9. Two posters have said no and you want to make it yes. The answer is no - unless you apply at a consulate that allows "friends" type issue (which are few and far between). As you have not indicated where your are or what passport you have that is about all we can advise.

i understood from the reply of Lite Beer, that I can´t get an extension for it, but I could get a non imm o visa in a consulate that says it is ok for friends and familiy reasons.

so i thought he ment i could get it in my case, but just no extension of my current visa status or an extension of the lenght.

am i still wrong? was the interpretation not right? :o

cause if some consulates say visiting a friend would be ok to get a non imm o visa, i don´t get it if i wouldn´t get one if it is because of my nephew...

  10. You will not get extensions from Immigration to visit a Nephew.

However it may be possible to get a Non Imm O Multi Entry Visa to visit freinds and family. This would mean a border run every 90 days and can be stretched out to a stay of 15 months.

There have been reports that Stuttgart may issue. Try ringing them or Hamburg. http://www.thaiembassy.de/Address.htm

Failing this the Consulate in Hull UK will issue. There have been reports by members living in Europe of doing this by mail. Contact them http://www.thaiconsul.co.uk/

so it is possible to get a non imm O multi entry visa trough my nephew, right? the 90 days run do not matter. if it´s just once every 3 months i don´t see a problem.

but there is no 180 days per year limitation or something like that, right?

And how do I have tohandle that? Just get the Non Imm O Visa form from one of the consulate websites, fill it out, give them my passport and a picture, pay the fee and wait till they gonna give me the stamps?

Or do they want me to write down an explanation about the situation why I want/need to get the non imm O Visa trough my nephew?

Do they also or still want to see a minimum ammount on my bank acc to give me the visa? if yes, it is Bht 400.000, correct?

  11. I believe its only tax free if the products are produced in an asean country. A product made in america then imported to china will still require import duties. Even if its free expext the thai customs to make problems because this is Thailand.

yes, this is the same what i heard when i was trying to get some infos.

i think the person you have to deal with at the custom wants to make you some problems even if it might be free of taxes to get some tea money.

does anyone know how much import tax would be for the needed items?

or if it might be exempted from taxes?

  12. China is not member of the association, well that's what it seems to say on the web site... Unless it is out of date and cr@p...

i checked that, too. but i got so many results on the web that they are a member of asean since 2004/2006(?).

so, let´s assume that it is not true what the web says ( that is common :o ) and china is not a member of asean:

how much would the import tax for te items be if imported from china?

couldn´t find those in the import index.

  13. I really want to stay a while in Thailand and asked myself which way could be the best.

And then came the idea: I could get a Non Immigrant O Visa through my nephew.

First of all, I am not sure if it is working or not. This is why I am posting it here and ask you guys how the chances are :o

My nephew is half thai and has a thai passport. He and his mother was living outside of thailand with my brother.

as they want to go back to Thailand I was thinking to get a Non Immigrant O Visa through my nephew or is it just possible for mother/father/son/daughter?

If it is possible through that way, do I have to go the regular way like copy of birth certification that shows my nephew is a Thai citizen and so on?

Just want to give it a try and see if it works :D

  14. Hi there,

I would like to know if there will be charged any import taxes for items that will be imported from china.

I want to import some photography equipment and packaging materials and have no clue if there will be charged any import taxes for those catgeories and if so, how much it will be.

I thought China is also one of the ASEAN countries, but I think just some categories/items are free of import taxes within those states, am I right?

Can´t use the way of "hand luggage" or "put all stuff in your bag" in this case :o

If this is the wrong category, please move it to the correct directory..

Hope you guys can help me out with that.
