elwood replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Same for me. Came to live here in 97, and heard a lovely song being played everywhere in Ubon, and bought the CD. She is from Ubon province, and I have been an admirer ever since. -

I used Thai Visa Express last year for renewal. Excellent, no fuss or BS. If memory is intact, the handler was Paul. -
Opinion: Tony Woodsome and the (not so) secret deal
elwood replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Well said, a much-missed contributor to BP. Sadly, the wonderful Atiya, who followed the same pattern, also left that paper a year or so ago. -
Yes, same for me, still paying, in our village 30 baht, despite not still residing there. The fund is a very good idea, helps the bereaved.

RIP Ubon Joe - ASEAN NOW visa expert
elwood replied to Rimmer's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Condolences to his family. Joe was the main reason for looking at this forum; his advice, always given in a straightforward, non-judgemental manner, has been accepted as gospel by almost all on this forum. He will be sadly missed. -

In 25 years, I have attended 11 funerals of family members in Ubon, and one in Bangkok. Only once was I asked to help financially, by a close nephew who paid me back when his father's insurance was paid out. From memory, most occasions lasted 3-4 days, mainly to allow time for relatives and friends to travel from other parts of the country.

How high is your blood pressure that you take medication
elwood replied to steveb5's topic in Health and Medicine
I am also an avoider of whole-arm machines. I used to get readings of 200++ /over 120! Now my appointment card for the hospital always contains the doctor's note -BP Manual, and the regular staff immediately produce the manual machine when they see me. When attending for my covid injections, I always showed them copies of my appointments plus my hospital book showing manual recordings. -

Many Brits are unsympathetic toward Prince Harry !
elwood replied to Social Media's topic in World News
This garbage started when Whinge and Cringe left the UK and Royal duties. The Oprah interview, the Netflix programmes, all originated before the Queen's death. And of course he had this book written many months before publication. Crying and blaming all their misfortunes on someone else is the only way they can make money. . Monarchy on the downward slope? Only in the dreams of a small minority. As for its fallibility, it appears that H and M are the ones facing the public condemnation. -
I get mine from a local clinic, 500 baht - the same price for years. I did ask once at my local hospital, but they were out of stock. Private hospitals also supply, but more expensive than a local clinic.

I did mine yesterday at Ubon Immigration. No fuss, no fee, very smooth. I only provided copies of the documents requested on the Immigration list, no extras. -
Received my passport yesterday, just over 14 weeks since application approved. Many thanks to Paul Aslett and Thai Visa Express Pattaya, did a first-rate job.

Romania Pledges Cooperation with Thailand on Cybersecurity
elwood replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
https://www.romanianstartups.com/about-romania/ For many years, Romanian gangs have been "credited" for the vast majority of ATM and bank card frauds throughout the western world. But only fair to add, that the majority of Romanians with vast technical skills work legally! -
Romania Pledges Cooperation with Thailand on Cybersecurity
elwood replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Way off the mark. Take a look at this; Romania is the leader in Europe, and sixth in the world, in terms of the number of certified IT specialists, with density rates per 1,000 inhabitants greater than in the US or Russia. There are almost 100,000 specialists in the IT sector. Approximately 5,000 of the 30,000 engineers graduating every year in Romania are trained in ICT.Microsoft acquired Romanian Antivirus Technology in 2003. According to Microsoft, Romania has a clear potential in information technology, an area in which Romanian students, researchers and entrepreneurs excel. A few years back, during a spate of mass thievery in UK through IT, it was noted that Romania and Bulgaria had the dubious distinction of being amongst the world's best at it.
