  1. OOps and sorry about the commercial link as I wasn't sure if it was ok or not.

Just an update that everything went perfect and would not have happened without all the above people's help and posts. My passport was kicked out at check-in at Don Muang but without asking me (I had shown letters for visa from visa agency with stamps from the Vietnam Immigration Department) she consulted another person and came back and told me in the future i should have six months on my passport but gave me my boarding pass and there were no issues in Vietnam with the visa as we paid an extra $20 US to have them meet us there to do all the paperwork with Vietnam Immigration as we just sat and waited (I figured with my situation it was best to spend the money though not necessary as "theoldgit" referred in his post).

A good lesson was learned, that hopefully everyone else in a similar situation will also learn from this one, and that is never let your passport get to within six months of expiration and actually when my wife and i return from the US this year she will have a little bit more than seven months left on her passport and I have told her she will need to renew it immediately as you never know when you may need to travel.

ALSO I could see thai immigration spent considerable time with my passport and discussions ( a very nice and friendly officer who was joking with me in introduction) with another and i am sure it was due to the limited validity of my passport but the passport had ten years of extensions for Non-Immigrant "O" and they let me go without saying anything but they really spent time looking at it.

Again renew before you passport gets to six months from expiration and again thanks to all of you that helped. And boy was it cold and foggy in Hanoi. peace and love

  2. Thanks again CNXBKKMAN (and all) for your help and thoroughness. I have my documents (visa letter from travel agent) for my visa from an agent and have printed out my correspondence with them and have decided to pay another 20 dollars to get a "fast track" agent from their company to meet me inside of immigration at the airport to facilitate getting our visa stamp. They appear to have government approval to jump the cue to allow us to get the stamp. I don't need this service but thought if i could present AirAsia with my letter and their confirmation of the service and people there for my visa would impress the person who has been at the counter since at least four am and as you say up way before three am to meet us at 5:30 am for our 7 am flight.

I called AirAsia and talked to another agent after this info from the blog a few days ago and he said that I need 6 months on PP and I told him I already had visa and info saying ok to come as long as one month left on passport by departure shown in the info I am posting below. He said bring the info and visa letter and present it to agent at the counter. I feel rather confident it will work out with all the documentation and especially with this KLM info that is dated and looks very good. Again Khap Khun Khap and Choke Dee

    Passport required.
    - Passports and other documents accepted for entry must be
valid for a minimum of 30 days beyond the period of intended
    stay.
    - When holding a visa for entry into Viet Nam, passports must
be valid at least 1 month after the expiry date of the visa.

Visa required, except for Passengers with a Certificate of

Visa Exemption issued by Viet Nam for a maximum stay of 90

    days.
Visa required, except for Nationals of USA arriving at Phu

Quoc (PQC) for a maximum stay of 30 days.
Visa required, except for Nationals of USA arriving at Hanoi

(HAN) or Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) with onward tickets for a

connecting flight, on the same day, to Phu Quoc (PQC). They

are required to remain in the transit area of Hanoi (HAN) or
Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) and clear immigration at Phu Quoc (PQC)

where they will be granted a maximum stay of 30 days.
    Visa Issuance:
    - Holders of a pre-approval letter issued only in Ha Noi, Viet
Nam by the Vietnamese Immigration (Ministry of Public

Security) or the Consular Department (Ministry of Foreign
Affairs), can obtain a visa on arrival for a max. stay of 1
or 3 months at Hanoi (HAN), Ho Chi Minh City (SGN), Da Nang
(DAD) or Nha Trang (CXR). Fee: USD 45.- for a single-entry 1
    or 3 months visa; USD 65.- for a multiple-entry 1 month

visa; or USD 95.- for a multiple-entry 3 months visa.

  3. It depends on what passport you hold and your destination country. An american passport holder needs 6 months validity, one clean empty page and a visa for Vietnam. A British passport holder going to the USA just needs the passport to be valid during the visit. So passport is expiring in 7 days but visiting New York for 3 days and leaving before expiry everything would be fine.

Needing 6 months validity is common for a lot of countries but also a lot of countries don't have that requirement. Whenever your PP gets in the last 6 months its time to get a new one if you want an easy life. Its always worth checking the entry requirements of your destination if you want stress free travel.

Thank you for your reply and everyone else's. peace and love

  4. Air Asia once refused me boarding on a flight to Cambodia for the same reason. But this is, in fact, a Cambodian requirement.

Do you have a Vietnamese visa or were you planning to get a 15 day visa exempt stay? The latter does require passport validity of at least 6 months for UK citizens https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/vietnam/entry-requirements

US citizens AFAIK can't get visa exemption and must have 6 months passport validity to get a visa

In short, it depends on your nationality and visa status. If you have already got a visa for Viet Nam and your period of travel falls within the validity of that visa then you can argue your case with AA and probably win as all they care about is that you not be refused entry (may need to speak to a supervisor though). But if you are going in visa exempt it may indeed be a requirement.

Google Viet Nam entry requirements + your nationality

Thanks Sheryl as I am a US citizen and I am in the process of getting a letter from a travel agent ( www.vietnamvisacorp.com they are extremely helpful and very punctual in their responses to any issues, I highly recommend them and they are in agreement that it is no problem to get a visa with my current passport so it does appear to be an AiraAsia issue) for a one month "visa upon arrival" as it is a common and simple way to enter the country for a short stay of less than one month. Cost is $19 US and $25 US stamp fee upon arrival.

As you can see on my previous email and the info from my agents a visa can be issued and entry allowed if passport for US citizen has less than 6 months of validity.

Thanks so much for your help

  5. Hmm...

Just checked the TIMATIC infos (the source that airlines refer to for visa/entry conditions).

US citizen (are you?) from Thailand to Vietnam:

    Passport required.

    - Passports and other documents accepted for entry must be

valid for a minimum of 30 days beyond the period of intended

    stay.

    - When holding a visa for entry into Viet Nam, passports must

be valid at least 1 month after the expiry date of the visa.

So if you are a US citizen then the info from AirAsia is false.

    Infos can be queried here:

Thank you as I am a US citizen and I got that same info from the link you sent me

  6. Extensions must be applied for in person, there is no online application.

Re-entry permits can be applied for online, but must be picked up in person as you need to supply pass photo, the passport needs to be stamped and the fees need to be paid. I expect a similar system for extensions, where you electronically submit most documents online, cutting down the time at the immigration office, will be introduced in the near future.

Immigration is working on its e-office.

thanks Mario and UbonJoe sounds like a dumby like me would have expected

  7. The TM7 form is used for all a extension of stay applications. Visas are not extended.

Also a monthly income or bank statement would be required to show you meet financial requirements based on your nationality if i am understanding this correctly. I've done this 10 times now and just seem to appear dumb and dumber. People at this time also get the visa of their choice and I choose an annual multiple "re-entry permit" visa that allows multiple entries into the country (gee i guess it is sort of explanatory) for a year. This is all for a "NON IMMIGRANT "O".

    So now a new question!!!

I was just told today that the Swedish Embassy is informing their citizens that Thailand is allowing this entire process to be done on-line?????? HOW WOULD SOMEONE THEN BE ABLE TO PAY ALL THEIR FEES?? i truly believe i was misinformed as I'm sure they are not saying just Swedes can do this but everybody.

NOTE I am not talking about having to do a 90 day notification done on-line. I'm talking about this entire process to renew or ''extend" the NON-IMM "O" for another year.

Is this proceedure now allowed on-line and if so how do you pay the required fees?

thanks for any info from dumb and getting dumber or as they used to say Fords Forever

Costas, as much of a Mate you are ... this is the Farming Forum.

We don't bring the gutter of the General/Pub Forum here.

Nor would MissFarmGirl appreciate the comment ... said in jest ... or not.

    .

When a poster floods Thai Visa with pics of wife and kids, he should expect comments like Costas just made. And, I took the comment to be in good fun.

This is beyond belief!!!!! How does someone like Costas not get kicked off this forum or at least reprimanded with his filthy and ugly innuendo. Both of you are what Issan Aussie and Fruity (RIP) raised at their farms and I hate to degrade their stock by insinuating that you are even close to their status. I said i would be back with a posting in a year or two well this is it for me as I see it. What a miserable degradation this has become of what was once a very intelligent and valuable source (sure we had a little kind humor mixed in, key word kind) to anyone wanting to be involved in trying to work with mother earth and improve her and their lives at he same time.

I guess you two might say that every attractive women that dresses in an attractive manner just deserves to be attacked and molested by men (your quote "When a poster floods Thai Visa with pics of wife and kids, he should expect comments like Costas just made.) as how can they control themselves if she is so callous to be doing such things to the fine males that dominate this fine dream that you two live in. Ugly and filthy were the thoughts and remarks. Helmsman if you post photos of your family and try to help others is that your code that makes you deserve abuse and sexual innuendo on our Farming Forum. ABSURD. Sail your ship off the end of the earth as you live and still think in a day when the earth was flat. I am truly astounded that noone came out and just knocked these guys back to where they wouldn't crawl out of the caves that they live in. I don't have a clue who David 48 is but my apologies to you for what has transpired. things have changed here big time and this may very well be the end of me in this forum.

Pidgeon Jake and Rice hahaha thanks for the nice words and I will end this with something that you R555 will appreciate. My first Dead was as a 12 year old as they really bummed me by unplugging my pinball machine (with free games on it) and plugged in as The Warlocks in my local Pizza Parlor Magoos. They are good guys as they paid me back in spades with many free shows and a few times back and on stage at heir performances.

wow the trip got a little stranger; costa get on the helmsman's ship a go down with him on his ship of fools.

no helmsman of mine nor of your mate costas

this next one just replace the thought of a woman being the reason and plug the above dynamic sailors you'll catch my drift in your life raft

  9. Some immigration offices now allow you to apply for your extension of stay (it is not a visa) up to 45 days early. You should check with your local office to see what their policy is.

Thanks you Joe bone I just went to the Im office and first person told me only 30 days before but she referred me to a senior person who said they just changed this and you can in fact renew 45 days in advance now. Thanks for the help. Fords Forever

  10. I believe that you can renew this 1 year visa a month early but my question is if anybody knows what the criteria is for renewal if you won't be in the country when it expires

This is my tenth year and have renewed early many times but may be faced with the situation of being out before the one month before and will return possibly over one month after it expires. Any help will be most appreciated. Thank FF

  11. Pure is just before the overpass (over the railroad) on the south of town (at the Takiab Rd intersection) on the right side of the road going south (going south do the u-turn under the over-pass to return to Hua hin and heading north again you can enter by turning left into a small road next to their shop before re-entering Petchkasem Rd.) There are a lot of Pure shops now in town but I had visited many of them and I think that Rose at this shop is very good and she speaks excellent English. If you wish to make mineral water instead of just purified water my wife sells systems that cost about 30,000 baht and are US made.

  12. Actually that report was not about US testing but one associate professor at a NJ university publishing his findings - no information on reliability or testing methods and no other report has ever been made - and this was more about Chinese rice than Thai.

Right on that one and I hadn't heard of his University before but when somebody does something like this the Thai should be abl;e to pull up #'s and spec's from their test to refute this as it can cause a lot of grief. Unfortunately I'm gone from the house without the article so will have to dig it up in a week and do a bit of due diligence and see what I can find or see how it plays out in the papers. Probably the reason the gov doesn't ever pay the full 20,000 a kilo unless your connected as they are factoring the lead out of the rice's weight,. ayukka yuk. Jump on the bus in a few moments and have aniother 150 banana trees coming by pikup in less than a week. Got to get the lead out and push that pencil. FFFF

  13. In the other newspaper I just read an article about the US testing some 300,000 tons of Thai rice (90% Hom Mali) and they found lead levels in it ranging from 20-60 TIMES (read as 2000 -6000%) above the minimum safety standard for consumption. First thoughts are water and soil as the causes. It isn't April 1 and this is really a big deal and with the amount of time that it took us with big hitters (major hospital directors etc) to get water tests in Hua Hin for a charity school project (nearly a year and a half) I can't see a way to really test this soon or expect the gov to do so. I did find a place in Bkk that tested but they charged a fee of 300-500 baht for everything individually you wanted to test for in water. No standard water consumption tests. You think the gov is going to help us on this one with tests of water soil and rice???? heck they want to just throw money at this hazardous waste when you harvest it (last guy who sold under the program got only 15000 a ton to the mill thieves). Well I'm off to plant my organic hazardous waste today and will test tomorrow isn't that the way to do it here. "I told you to cut that branch or somebody will lose an eye. Now I see you did it. Who lost their eye?" "oh nobody really just a neighbors kid"

  14. This is not an avocado graft as I am waiting for those trees to get a bit larger. A branch of one our mango trees broke off during a windstorm 5 days ago and I decided to try to graft the branch with fruit to a fast growing tree I planted from seed. Five days so far and one of the mangoes fell off but the leaves are looking very healthy. I used a 1/4 inch square piece of hard balsa to support the scion and stock together and then used 1 inch duct tape to secure it all together. It doesn't look pretty but so far so good. At least the leaves didn't fall off the first day as I thought they would.

    8641590005_a7f4686bc4_z.jpg

remove the fruit from the grafted branch so you give the graft stock more chance to adhere to the rootstock in the wind and also not use any energy trying to keep the fruit on the tree but pretty amazing results from those poisonous (to me) trees.

  15. I used a lot of bleach in my day until I was turned on to Hydrogen peroxide. I don't have the numbers with me right now but if you are not looking to drink the water I would recommend you use one bottle from the pharmacy (about a half liter of 3%) for your first go at it and it should clean up any problems with bacteria and none of the residuals of bleach or smells or other related bleach issue. H2O2 in h2O is a good thing. Also to drain the tank put in a hose and make sure it sits on the bottom of the tank (tie a rock to it) the turn on the water as if to fill it when water is flowing intop the tank just disconnect the hose from the faucet and lay it on the ground and it will then reverse and suction will empty the tank.

  16. Yes there is a charge for each team as there will be a record 22 teams competing with many professional players coming to compete in the top level. the cost will be either 5 or 6 thousand baht depending on how many players we have. This includes the two dinners at the Dusit which leave nothing to be desired with the beachside restaurant dinner a seafood specialty buffet but all the other courses you can imagine also. If you can't play Tyker come on by and watch a game or two and say hey to the guys on the team. thanks for the interest.

Also I made an error with the games as we play 3 games on Monday the 8th not two

  17. The world famous Hua Hin Hop A Longs are looking for a couple of players for this year's event. we are in the "Masters" division this year so that means we need players 45 years old or older. The tourney involves playing 5 games one on Saturday the 6th and two more each following day. We then have an off day on Tuesday and playoffs will be on Wednesday. Introductory huge buffet dinner is on Saturday night at the Dusit Hotel (as is the tourney) at the beach front outdoor restaurant and is semi-formal (not so much so if you don't want to but if your wife or girlfriend likes to dress up this is their chance). Final dinner and awards are casual outdoors on the lawn but still the full on Dusit buffet again. If interested call Tom at 086-621-9693

  18. You are driving, yes?

If so then you should expect really bad traffic before and after especially if there is a large exhibition at Challenger next door. Add in a football game at the Thunderdome stadium (located just north of Challenger) and the whole area can be a huge traffic jam. (And don't forget that 10k also live in the MTT condos, located just to the east of Impact)

On the occasions when there are a few events on the same night at various venues, getting in and out of MTT can be a nightmare. On those nights, it is not uncommon for people to spend over an hour trying to get to Chaeng Wattana rd (1.5kms away) on really bad nights or 30-40 mins getting onto the Expressway ramp. If it is only the concert, then it won't be too bad.

Arriving 2 hrs earlier will give you time to park in the carpark. However, if you know the area there are a few better places to park away from Impact which provide a quick exit (given you don't know the area so well it may just confuse you to detail these options).

There are a few restaurants adjacent to Impact and if Challenger is open many eateries located in the pedestrian link between Impact & Challenger will be as well.

However, you wanted a picnic. There is a grassy area immediately in front of Impact Arena but this will be noisy with people. There is another located to the west of the Arena adjacent to the rd which runs between Imapct and Challenger. This will be nicer, more quiet and still close.

If you really want some space then somewhere around the Lake which is located to the NW of Challenger/Impact you'll find some areas to hang out (access from Bond st which is continuation of Chaeng Wattana soi 33) but then you have the problem of driving that last 1km or so to Impact when traffic may be bad.

I'd probably stick with arriving early, picnic by Impact which also gives time to visit some eateries and restaurants nearby should you wish.

Thanks Lake buddy also you too Friso guy. We are going to have a driver with a van take us there and are leaving Hua Hin at 3pm for 8:30 show. When i leave for the farm in Buriram I am usually somewhere short of Saraburi in about 3 hours (leaving at 3am). So we are factoring for a frijole full of traffic into our plans and like the idea of the 1 kilometer away lakeside spot for picnicing as we want to be able to walk away from the crowds of the venue to rondevous with our van driver and won't need to worry about having parking nearby as he can be waiting 5-10 kilos away until the show is over. thanks for the help For Fans and Fords Forever

  19. Anybody been to this venue? We are coming from Hua HIn so have the fudge factor for the traffic and will arrive possibly two plus hours before the show. Is there anywhere around the venue close by that would be good to have a picnic dinner? Any other suggestions. Muchas gracias

  20. yeah I was a bit incapacitated at harvest. Harvest is when you pay all the vbills because got to get it out of the wet into the pile then off the straw into the bags dried to optimum out and into the bags if necessary and anywhere to do it with the weather then the cost to get it to the buyers warehouses and and then no warehouses wants to do this govt idioticy so can't sell to them at 20 and there are only a few houses buying under the govt program; as it was easy to promise but there was no delivery by the paper pushers and the plant growers brogught in their wares. Some day they would only process three!! trucks with the paperwork for pledged rice and the other dozens to hundreds of vehicles in the cue could spend the night and hope it didn;'t rain or as they always do sell to the houses out of program price. My FIL got conned into 11 baht for organic hom Mali and never even saw close to 14. Some might remember the little bit of flood waters to deal with. we were flooded early and manage to sve the crop others lost theirs (organic methods and nano-calcium and high foliar feedings of essential micros were teh key i believe) then a big drought hit and turned everything the other way. the new water and irrrigation system saved us again and then the big floods came sooooooo not a very big rice harvest on top of that, Weneed to feed nearly 20 people with the rice there wasn't so much to sell and when I found out our big farm's entire minmal harvest was conned away for 11 baht we didn't make the money to get the stugff ojut of thr ground and into the mill. Our premium stuff was completely held back to feed the family and hopefully a few newer bigger strains are harvested and in bagsand will make for a good seed stock for this year. we got hammered by this 20 baht bull. It just gave the buyers another edge to get the ignorant indebted Issan farmers completely devastated. i guaranteed my FIL that I will buy all his rice this year for 11 and yes we started with flooding again which scrtewqwed the palnting again this year but now are in a drought so we maintain consistency over the last half dozen years. Enormous crop of Jack fruit this year as effects of lots of organic compost and EM are showing.

  21. My back aches just looking at the monster rolls of sod. Well done and many things can be done many ways. I grew turfgrass on pavement not too intentionally but definitely it can be grown from the top down no problem. Like Aussie and others say. Supply the nutrients, mulch the cuttings bacvk into the turf will eventually make slightly alkaline as is ideal to keep vermin away but Zoysia is magic grass and is the indigenous (native) grass of this area that has been shipped over the entire world and is considered an extremely effective droughtand disease resistant invasive hot weather turfgrass. effective irrigation and dilligent weeding in its original introduction will produce the best turfgrass in Thailand bar none unless you have huge saline problems then "Seashore paspalum" would be best. A constant diet of good organic compost and effective microorganisms, EM and you will have a lawn that will survive isn the best and worst of conditions. Feed it good and keep it happily moist and you can't lose. I just was in the middle of nearly a thousand of rai of it in an old pineapple plantation and it was magnificent.Fore on Fords Forever
