Here is my experience on Monday 11 Oct.

I booked an online app last week for Thursday 14 October.

Booking online was not available for foreign passports .  The drop down box did not open.

And so I used my 13 digit Covid-19 number, that I obtained from online covid booking.

This will take you to various options to renew 1,2 or 5 year licence renewal.    It is all in Thai, so you may need your wife to translate the options.

Once it is all approved, print it out and take it to your local DLT on the app day.

    My case was slightly different.

I had received the residence certificate on Monday.

But, I also had all relevant docs for my driving licence renewal in the car.

On my way home I had to pass the DLT office and popped in to verify my docs were all OK and that my 14 October appt would be honoured.

To my surprise, the female officer asked me if I would like to do it immediately.   Obviously I said yes.

So, 50 minutes later I was on my way home with a 5 year 11 month driving licence,  because mine had expired one month previously.

    Documents I had prepared:

    1.   Copy of passport page

    2.  Copy of current visa extension plus copy of passport re-entry stamp with relevant copy of TM6.

    3....Doctors certificate

    4   Proof of residence certificate.

5   Copy of e learning online test.

    6.  Original passport.

No reaction test, just 3 traffic lights to be tested on.

There were about 40/ 50 people in the room and not one other farang as far as I could see.

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks for your reply.

    1. Can you provide the link to book the appointment.

    2. Does anyone have DLT Accepted experience using a substitute to Immigrations Certificate of Residence?

For example instead of COR taking a letter from a condo office &/or electricity receipts?

Anyone can do the report for you until the due date. The 7-day grace period, however, is only available if you do your own report. At least, that seems to be the established practice at most offices.

Interesting.  If true, that is important information to avoid late penalty by the person helping you do it.  I wouldn't be surprised if that could just be an "extra earner" by selected Imm offices; but of cpourse I don't really know.

I had my first shot of AZ in Bangkok (via SSO from my employer), but then moved to Chiang Rai. My second shot will be due around late Sept/early Oct. Any suggestions for arranging an appointment here?

Chiang mai has a provincial health office that helped me.  I would assume CR has also. Go ask.

Where is it? Perhaps start with the health offices in that long 2 story row of old bldgs about 100 meters east of the main city post office (just east of the old clock tower at the center of the old main city market).

Last time for me at Chonburi:

    1.  The 12 to 14 page printouts of your past years activities that the bank in Pattaya has to order from Bangkok Bank Headquarters in Bangkok.  Do this ahead of time it takes one week to get it.

    2.  A separate bank letter listing all 12 dates and amounts of 65,000 b for each required month.

    3.  Another bank letter showing the current bank account balance.

    4.  Copy of updated bank book and bring it with you as they want to actually look at it.

Number 2, 3 and 4 they want completed/updated on the day you apply for extension.

PS:  Your experience may differ depending on the Immigration representative you encounter.

Seems like Overkill.  This is why I asked for folks experience.

  5. Dr Siri (Siri Chiewchanvit):   Good reputation also.

Thursdays AM at the relatively new Sriphat facility on Suthep Rd:  ph 053-934-733.    Sriphat opposite McDonalds at intersection with Sirimankerajahn.

He has an evening clinic M-F (approx 1700-1900) on Sri Phum Rd about 100-300 meters west of Ta Pei Gate.

What does he do daily:  Not positive but I believe perhaps a prof at CMU Medical School.

  6. Having decided (14 months ago) to have my USG pension sent to Bangkok Bank (account solely in my name only) on a regular basis, I now qualify for Retirement Extension by exceeding the 65K Baht/Month foreign transfer (FTT) criteria..  So, this will be my first try at doing the retirement extension that way from now on (at either the Chiang Mai or the Jomtien Immigration Offices).  Once I see it is successful I will then gradually draw down the 800,000 Baht I had previously reserved for that purpose.  Since this is my first try using the 65K criteria, I thought It wise to ask for readers experience on possible unexpected / surprises additional requirements.

So, with respect to acceptable evidence of the 65K Baht/month, what exactly do I need to obtain from the bank? I think the following:

    1.  A certified bank printout of 12 months account activity?

    2. A additional certified bank letter (showing what - ending balance?)?

    3. Original & Copy of my bank book?

    4 Anything else from bank?

    Any other possible surprises?

    PS,

I did already read the following 26Dec18 Immigration Bureau guidance from the pinned topics (Subject: Supporting Evidence....):

I use Best Friend Visa, 3,000 baht fee.

Used them since we had to start queuing up at 3am in the pouring rain a few years ago.

They take care of the photos, copies, forms and you turn up at Immigration for 5 minutes to have your mug shot added to their data base.

Where is their office, or other way to contact them?

PS, CM Immigration long lines & long waits seem to have become a thing of the past (at least for the moment).  Plus a fellow out front seems sincerely helpful in explaining what is necessary.  No, he is not taking bribes.

One was the application, second was acceptance of 90 day rule and third I don't actually recall. Simply signed and dated.

These forms were previously found in front of the main entrance but now are in the tent where there are boxes numbered accordingly.

You should give the sub issue a rest. It's old news and you have a better issue with the decision to purchase 2 T-50TH advanced trainer jets with this years budget for delivery in 2023.

''Give it a rest'' is cute phraseology.  But it serves to discourage continued public interest & debate on how to most appropriately use a countries limited resources to cost effectively achieve the nations most urgent goals (Defense, Economy, Health, Education, etc) .  The submarine issue may appear dead, but I'm convinced it has only been given a temporary rest.  The Thai public needs to be continually reminded that any future inappropriate use of resources simply robs Peter to pay Paul.

Without getting into the weeds on the military's budget justification for their various Defense programs, I believe it would be clearly visible to experienced military budgeteers that the Korean trainer jets are most likely far more easily defendable on multiple issues, than are the Chinese submarines.  Total Life Cycle Cost being the most immediately obvious (look at the aircraft carrier "Chakri Narubet" sitting idle tied down in Sattahip).

At the risk of over simplifying, primary among such issues would be (for each of the various alternative ways to accomplish a stated mission) a Total Life Cycle Cost vs Performance Effectiveness Analysis.  The Korean Trainers would most likely pass muster, whereas the Chinese submarines would very possibly fail scrutiny; especially in competition with other Thai national requirements (Health, Education, etc, Peter pays Paul).

Then there is the "Faustian Bargain" issue.  I'm guessing that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has siezed the opportunity to offer a submarine program "Loss Leader" (perhaps with "back handers").  Like their Belt & Road initiatives, the purpose being to grab the Thai military by the "short hairs".

The Thai submarine program would then in future be dependent upon the CCP for Chinese submarine unique assistance & advice on all of the following: Doctrine, Organization, Training, Logistics (Supply, Maintenance, Transportation), and Materiel Upgrades.

The CCP knows what it is doing.  A grandiosity seeking, seemingly naive Thai military leadership very possibly does not appreciate the ramifications.  The Thai public should be continually reminded.

There are plenty of reasons to criticize the budget priorities of the Thai govt. But it was actually featured in thaivisa.com that no money was appropriated for the purchase of submarines in the latest budget. Give this factoid a rest already.

Satire. Satire about unneeded submarines from the Chinese of all countries.  What a Faustian deal with the devil that would be.

But to your point, if I'm not mistaken, I think the money was only unwillingly temporarily removed from current budgets after extreme criticism from high profile non military public figures & academics.  If not for the covid issue turning extremely serious now, I believe the military government would still have it in their current budget.

So I disagree strongly with your assertion that the submarine issue needs a rest.  I feel that the submarine issue deserves to remain front & center in peoples minds.  Unless people continue to object strongly to it, the current decision makers will once again attempt to make it a priority.

    Let's see what happens.

  11. Quote: "Perhaps you're talking about the state governor of Florida, he made a (legal) decree that it's forbidden for people in restaurants, shops, public transport, offices etc., to wear masks."

Comment / Question, just asking, not arguing because I don't know:

Are you sure the "decree" didn't simply forbid restaurants from forcing people to wear masks??

    Two completely different scenarios.

Let's say for the sake of argument that thailand would spend $20 per dose of an mRNA vaccine. So 2 doses per person would come to $40. And let's say that everybody is going to get vaccinated twice with said vaccine. Even kids, just for the sake of argument. That would be about 70 million people. So, what does that total come to? About 2.8 billion dollars. The Thai govt.'s budget in 2020 was about 110 billion dollars. So that 2.8 billion dollars (which is a big overestimate) would come to less than 3 percent of Thailand's 2020 budget.

And Thailand has an extensive public health system.

So what exactly is your objection to my analysis?

But...but...but, you forgot about the higher priority given to those strategic & tactically absolutely necessary Chinese submarines.  Priorities you know.

I agree completely. It’s strange how dismissive/aggressive some people become at the very mentioning of Ivermectin. This drug has been used for decades and has been proven to be safe. Why not at least try it? The worse case scenario is that it does nothing besides killing any parasites that might be living in the patient’s body.

Agree.  Except I don't find it strange if you consider the knee jerk rabid hate some folks & news channels have for Fox news and/or Donald Trump.

Whatever resulted, a few years back, from the city's decision / notice that a high rise condo on Raum Rudee had to be torn down?  I think the reason was the same, namely that the street out front, Raum Rudee I guess, was not wide enough (for what, firetrucks, the density of the condo?).

I don't live in Bkk now so perhaps I just missed any followup / blowback that might have been in the news. Anybody have an update on that one?

A notorious example is the Aetas Residence -- a 20-storey hotel and serviced apartment on Soi Ruamrudee in Pathumwan district. On Dec 2, 2014, the Supreme Administrative Court ordered the BMA to demolish the upper levels of the project's buildings, saying it breached a Building Control Act clause that limits buildings constructed on roads narrower than 10 metres to eight storeys.

The court ordered the demolition to be completed within 60 days of the verdict, and the BMA has repeatedly pledged to carry out the job. Governor Aswin had even publicly estimated that the demolition would cost around 200 million baht, which would be shouldered by the developer.

That said, six years on, the building is still standing.

My partner and I toured Ashton Asoke.  It's a beautiful project but it was out of our price range.  I certainly hope some accommodation can be reached.   I feel like once a project is finished and people are living there, the city has lost its chance to object to a building and demand it be torn down.  The time to inspect, halt construction, and possibly revoke a construction permit and cancel a project is before or during construction, not several years down the road after a project is done.

Assuming you are on Facebook. There is a group;    Thailand travel restriction

It lists current regulations and checkpoints between Chiang Mai and other areas  of Thailand. They have a couple listings for taxis, taxi drivers and companies who do long distance routes. Like Chiang Mai to Suv. Or minibuses, or people wanting to share a taxi. It gives you a good idea of the prices, and posts from people who have traveled these routes recently.

PS - Lists info on other means of transport. The NOK flights, and train - yes there is a train running between CM and Bangkok.

If easy for you, could you please provide a link for that Facebook group you referenced.  Thanks.
