  1. As normal in Thailand , the culprits are politicians and rich peoples... they will NEVER be punished... They just laugh and move to the next money-making scheme...

And what about the beaches? All beach strips are or should be PUBLIC or CROWN LAND. Yet here is what I personally observed in Pattaya during the 'Fireworks Festival' a week ago:

Vendors of chaiselongs were charging 30 bt per chair. So far - understandable, it's their business. 30 min before the fireworks the price went from 30 to 100 bt. So far - understandable, demand/supply issue. BUT

in their greed they started putting out more chairs as the water level subsided. To do so they chased away poor Thai families with women and kids who were sitting on their own mats on the sand. I was disgusted by their actions as much as by Thais obedience. This was something characteristic for TIT. Nowhere in the world this could be possible! I was itching to get out of my chair and sit on the sand, just to pick up a fight. My lady told me not to, unless I wanted to be knifed!

What a garnish to a beautiful display! angry.png Please, tell me, where am I wrong...

  2. Here is another (different) problem.

All of a sudden my PC has developed a following glitch:

    a) when I want to delete a spam the little window asking me "are you sure" is jumping around like a flee.

I still manage, but it is very annoying.

    B) in my Messenger when trying to 'phone out' the little box for typing the phone out number when clicked on

clears only partially. The result is - I cannot phone out as the number does not get typed in.

I'm not a computer wiz, rather a 'computer bum'. All other functions are OK.

Did I catch a virus? a worm? My programs and Op System (Windows 7 Home Premium)were loaded by the guy I bought a computer from. But it worked OK so far. What is happening? Thanks for help in advance. :(

Have you run a full virus scan on your computer? Sounds very much like you do have a virus.

If you do not have anti virus get one. AVG free, or Avast amongst others are easy enough to download.

    http://free.avg.com/us-en/free-antivirus-download (AVG free).

    http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download (Avast free)

Thanks p-dingo. I am thinking about ESET. Currently I have a free download of Avira, but I think it's not up to scratch. What do you think? A friend of mine recommends highly ESET.

  4. Never mind OK, P.M. Yingluck and her band of Merry Men will take care of all the problems as promised. Have faith.:whistling:

As evidenced by this determined no-nonsense cut in interest-rates ... of 0.25% ... showing how seriously they take the situation. <_<

Meanwhile the cost of a 5-kg bag of rice, formerly 110B-125B, is now costing me 199B 'on special' at Tesco-Lotus. How are the poor expected to be able to feed themselves at these prices ? :(

 Agreeing with almost everything said here, I must say that:

    a)profiteering from natural national disaster comes not only in form of theft, burglary, but in bumping up prices due to shortages;

b)my main concern is with the tendency of higher prices to stay, even after the reasons for their increase are no more. B)

  5. Beware, no one in the university buy your books. They allcopy, so to sell book your book needs to be the same or lower price than theits photo copy cost

Yes, an interesting question. I have noticed that printed books cost is relatively high here.

Next thing I have noticed that at Uni level 99/100 students in any subject use photocopies of lecture notes instead of books. This speaks for quality of learning/teaching. Questions, doubt, discovery and criticism are not encoureged in thai style learning/teaching: to prevent 'loss of face'. Bad system from prep and up.

Everything is based on Wai/Instruction/Wai. No wonder we are in year 2555. Happy New Year! :D

  6. Yet another run-in with ignorant arrogant farangs.

I feel your pain. Why didn't you make a scene?

Let 'em know they're not in the backwoods of Tennesee anymore.

You're OK Homeboy. All you lack is cojones.

I didn't make a scene for reasons that would be obvious to anyone but a bellicose a**hole like you.

Easy tiger, he was backing you up there.

Really, if there's one type of farang that's not needed here, it's that type. Get some stink-bomb stuff on your boots and pop back in. ;)

Chill it, Homeboy. No need to get abusive, especially to people who are on your side. :)

On a more general note,- thank your God you are in a Buddhist country. Otherwise you could be a 'Dead man walking' or on the path to eternal damnation. I wish you all the best, really. Take it easy, man. :D

  7. I am sick and tired of hearing about how much more I will have to sacrifice in this charade.

Fine. Some Phua Thai big wig decides he doesn't want the farmers in his province to have to suffer and orders the RID to ignore the meterologists and keep the water in the dams, thereby precipitating this crisis. Now, I am told I need to suffer even longer to pay for their political BS.

I'm pissed. Truly. There is over a million baht in damage in my house. I'll accept as much hardship as needed to get everyone out of this disaster, BUT PAY ME DAMNIT!!!!

30,000 baht for your screwup? What an insult. There is only one thing that can fix this Miss Bad Luck Yingluck. Money. Lots of it. Not your pissy 30k maximum either. Promise each resident of Western Bangkok another 200k for their additional 2 weeks of sacrifice, as well as real relief for everyone who was affected by your political crony's bad policy, and then maybe you'll get that patience you want.

Money is the only thing that will fix this. It was one of yours who created this crisis miss PM. You need to fix it. Don't ask me for patience. Mine has run out. I'm going to set up a yurt in the middle of Ratchaprasong intersection until you start being reasonable. If it is good enough for your precious red shirts, it is good enough for me.

And anyone who thinks I don't deserve to rant is someone who deserves to lose everything the way I have.

I am not entering the political discussion of which Gov't would have coped better with floods. Or how much money should be paid to people in compensation for their damages. But one issue has been overlooked here: HEALTH DANGER to people wading in sewerage infested water. The results will surely appear in all forms. Sooner rather than later. But the Gov't inaction in this respect is bordering on criminal. Huge numbers of people are forced to stay in BKK, live in inhuman conditions and risk their health and very lives, by being forced to KEEP TURNING UP FOR WORK, UNDER THE THREAT OF LOSING THEIR JOBS FOR NOT TURNING UP! This situation is directly manageable by the Gov't, yet they prefer to issue emotional pleas and slogans. They can make themselves look good and concerned on TV, but when people will start to die of contageous disease this once again be written off as 'accidents caused by natural disaster'. Thai people must realise that this coming new malady is not accidental, but a direct result of Gov't policy.

Many people in BKK would opt to go out of the city, if they were free to make such a choice without the risk of losing their jobs.

Ms. Yingluck, please, act quickly on this one, or take the blame for inaction in the near and certain future. :jap:

I can annecdotally back this one up.

Some of my wife's cousins were due to come stay with us (relocate from Bangkok to Chonburi). At first, they couldn't get out, due to the flooding (they can't swim, and are in a badly hit area). By the time systems were able to move around (military trucks, I'm told), they were required to go to work. One of them works at a beauty supply shop. Who is buying make-up in Bangkok right now?! But, she is told, if she doesn't come to work, they'll fire her. Now, she is sick (red spots all over) - from the stagnant, infested flood waters.

Puntmeister, I'm sorry for your loved ones.

You must be really insensitive to the Nation's woes at this critical times, asking silly questions about who needs make-up products now in BKK.

First,- your cousins. How are they going to cover the red spots?

Second,- the Gov't. How can they appear on TV and look good?

As to the red spots, black spots, crock inflicted wounds, snake bites, disentery and cholera,- all these things are unfortunate, unforseen and unpredictable events, for which nobody is responsible. Right?:ermm::rolleyes:

  9. PM Yingluck Declines To Declare SOE For Fear Of Affecting Foreign Investors Confidence

    http://www.thaivisa....ors-confidence/

Now that foreign investors confidence is gone, will Yingluck be declaring a SOE?

Please, PLEASE, Not at the times like this!

Yingluck, Abhisit, even the Almighty Thaksin, can not help the natural disaster like flood. It is sad, it is very unfortunate, but we all will have to cope one way or another.

And on this particular issue, please do not politicize! Japs not happy with the flood? Maybe they prefer tsunamis, earthquakes or nucs leak? PLEASE, people, let's be sensible :jap:

  10. Duty rate for Printed matter is 10%, but there is a special Tariff code for Education Materials that is rated at 0%. You should not have refused it, but should have been able to push them to use correct tariff code for 0%

That being said, if they refused, you would have little recourse... you could have them turn over to your designated customs broker for clearance, but given the low value it wouldn't make sense as the charges for customs clearance and delivery would be higher that the duty amount that FedEx charged you.

3I think we are discussing the wrong issue. The point is - there should be no tax, duty, VAT or any type of government surcharge on knowledge, hence textbooks. But TIT is strongly for it, otherwise it wouldn't be what it is. :)

  11. Sorry, I'm not a farmer, but I always thought that the answer to OP lies in Location

    Soil quality

    Water availability

    Climatic conditions

    Market availability and access

    What do you grow

    Your farming ability

    Your business acumen

Please add anything I missed out.

Best of luck, my friend :)

  12. I am not so worried about 800,000Bt prerequisit. In my view it's OK and in-line with other Asian countries (say, Malaysia)much less xenophobic to foreigners.

The complications with business activities and land purchase are at least logically explainable,- they do not want the whole country in our hands... Fine!

What pisses me off, is two things:

1)If I am a retiree and live in my own place for years, WHY ON EARTH I MUST GET A PIECEMEAL ONE YEAR VISA?

    2) If I live for years in my own place AND have this lousy 1 YEAR VISA, why do I have to report to Immigration every 3 months? This defies any logic. And why my Blue book cannot show my name as a legit owner? Care to give a logic for this? :bah:

    Note: It's still a wonderful world :)

  13. Dear friends. Any comments appreciated.

Living 200km from BKK, 35km from Rayong is not axactly in the woods. For the last 2 weeks I have lost the TV reception for english speaking channels (Star Movies and BBC). All I see is

E48 or E52 blue strip. Our condo has a 'technician' who's only answer is restricted to:

'Too many clouds' OR 'Too much rain' OR 'Too windy', end of repertoir.

The roof of condo has 6 3m diameter antennae, all looking like they belong to WW1 period.

Have a laugh at my expense, but, please, tell me, if a flood, tsunami or earthquake will come to enhance rain, wind and clouds, will I see anything?

TIT for crying outloud! The rain, wind and clouds have been here for the last 10M years. Why did they sell to me 2 TV sets if I cannot see anything? :D

    I'm actually not laughing... :bah:

  15. They were probably deported for working without a work permit in a job that is classified as restricted to Thai's. Get paid B100,000 for a year's work, housing allowance, lie around and do nothing for a year. Yes many Thai ladies want that job.

This is an insult... You dont get babies by 'lie around and do nothing for a year'... 'Many Thai ladies do more for less'...:D ( This is meant as a compliment, by the way, no derogation intended)

  16. I

Good - but wont make one bit of difference. There are hundreds willing to 'martyr' themselves in his place.

Don't agree...Nazism pretty much died along with HItler...Italian and Spanish racism with Musolini and Franco. Individuals in history make a difference.

This isn't a quiz with 'agree-disagree' tick the box. Hitler, Mussolini, Franco - are dead. So are Lenin, Stalin, Mao and many others.

Look around. Is the world any better?

Saddam, Osama, Obama - what difference does it make, really?

The people die, their ideas live. More people will die. And back to normal life is returning...

I'm really sorry for us all.:jap:

  17. Personally, this new coming legislation does not affect me. :)

The retroactive impact will hit a lot of THAIS, not me or any DEAD foreigner.:bah:

The human rights aspect will hit the COUNTRY and it's current POLITICIANS, but who really cares?:D

I would really love to see one day a PINK movement (Party) parading for their money from old dead foreigners.

Finally, I am trying to think just how this country is going to remedy the cultural effects of Thai men impregnating innocent Thai girls and leaving the aftercare to old stupid foreigners?:jap:

  18. Cover up or no cover up, there is no way would I ever stay at the Doomtown Downtown Inn.

The place should be officially closed down until a positive convincing report has been published regarding these suspicious deaths.

    OH, MY GOD!

I have just realised, I stayed in a Downtown Inn in Phuket.

Please, somebody, tell me I'm alive...

But it's no use, too late anyway... They made my wife pay 400Bt for a cheap, low quality bath towel, because it was soiled with her black hair colour paint. I told her not to pay, but she did. When we came back home, she washed it out completely.

Anyone wants a s/h low quality bath towel?:D

  19. Caucasian? No mention in the news item about the color of the foreigner.

A very unusual reaction to a very frequently seen fact of life.

None of the above posts explain it rationally.

Just a thought: could it be jealousy?... or resentment of competition on mother's side?

Not a totally impossible situation given the geographic locale. At least this would be a rational explanation of the seemingly irrational act.B)
