  1. If you do it in 2 stages - with stop in LuangPrabang and/or VangVien - so it will be 12hours(sleeping bus possible) plus 8 hours. If you want to do it

in one go - you can,but it is sadomasochism. You can take boat,Airasia - to VT or LP,train to Nongkhai, there are direct international buses Chianmai/Chiangrai,loei to LP; between VT and destinations in Issan even BKK...If you have iron arse -may be you can sit in bus 24 hours?

  2. You may need visa to Laos in your passport. Some of you look on it from your personal experience, which is:visa runs.

Most people never heard about visa runs to Laos or elsewhere;however they travel a lot.

You will need Lao visa if you want to board flight to Vientian or Luang Prabang on one way ticket.

They will force you to buy ticket at the airport or you will not fly - very expensive exercise!

Most people go to Laos for pleasure of travel and they continue their travel overland to:China,Thailand,Vietnam,Cambo or Burma.

  3. In pdf leaflet from the link - you can figure out the access number used to retrieve your emails:

    +66 81 9009999

They advice you to use their "Call Home Service" to access it.But it works in any way you will make your call!

for instance - you can use Skype ,calling cards,VOIP etc. Just dial access number, like any number in Thailand.

From many countries calls to Thailand are free or very cheap if you use local sim card, you pay only for local air time.

You do not need to use their international roaming!

  4. It must have been a very big air pocket, otherwise C02 poisoning and/or O2 starvation would have gotten him. I'm wondering if this is a hoax ...

I'm wondering if this is a hoax ...

Did you happen to read the full story and see the rescue video?....of course not..obviously facepalm.gif

    keep on 'wondering' mate....

MaxYakov knows a thing or two about russkiy submarines and air pockets - look his avatar.

I also know little bit.It has happened last night - I watched good movie about russkiy subs - "Phantom",real story, rescue operation was reported in National Geographic mag years ago - incredible!nobody survived - 4000mtrs below surface;but they got bodies and they send them to Soviet Union.

  5. You have plenty of options open.

Sony and Olympus sell many models of specialized digital voice recorders and they are available in ChiangMai. - small and handy, fit into shirt pocket.

My smartphones can do the same trick with external mike or internal.

The same about my digital cameras - only Pentax has external mike input, compact Canon - small and handy - no(in video recording mode).

You can find also those secret video/voice recorders in form of pen, wrist watch..;I think - pen is reasonable solution;massive presence of them in electronic shops!

Do not forget about tablets, laptops, walkmans and mp3 players.

Early ipods did not have any recording features, today however they joined the crowd.

There is small problem with mp3 format - there are many other formats in use,and plenty of application/software which will convert into mp3.

You have to test your system before the event!

  6. I can tell you where to change:ChungkingMansion on 1stFloor there are only 3 changers,on GF - many.

So,on 1F Pacific Exchange will give you probably the best rate in town.Western Union in HK gives lousy rate

    for TB,

and the worst rates ever you will get at HK Airport for any currency.

You will find BKKBank in HK in 2 locations, one of them very easy to find - in Central, near Central MTR

  7. I gotten around the problem by putting the passport under hot steam on the pages with the expired entries ...do this gently !

Most of the newer decals come off nicely and you got another useable page

Some immo officers are even so forthcoming, that they will stamp on sticker, not out of it.

Not only Israel gives visas on fiche;today they do it in Hong Kong to everybody;after stay in HK you are allowed to throw it away, but if you lose it before - you are fined.

  8. It is not problem, that they eat cats or dogs. The problem is - how animals are being killed.

Asians believe that suffering makes their meat to taste better:more suffering - makes sweater taste.

I saw many video clips on YouTube illustrating what they do to poor puppies and kittens before cooking - truly disgusting!

May be I will find some of them - I will put links here and I will ruin your weekend.

In Guangzhou/Canton - they have big food court, size of the factory - where they do it on large scale: "Dogs&Cats Hell".

    in all restaurants serving dogs - they bash them up to death - or they burn them over fire;

the worst fate is reserved for cats - they skin them alive and drop them into boiling water.

    enjoy your next dogs dish.

    "....

Whether he or anyone else holds Malaysian law in high esteem is not the point. Malaysia has the law, traffic drugs and die. Quite simple, if you don't like it don't come here. Fine with both of us...."

Anybody can come to Beautifull Malaysia. The point is- what is the deterring effect of the law?

    I wrote in another post:

"...follow this story to the source - New Strait Times;you will learn, that in the same place where that unfortunate woman was busted - many others

were busted with suitcases full of weed...."

If there is money to be made - people will go for it.You can cal them stupid or daredevils;they do not care.

  10. p.s.

    I remembered wrong.The answer is:

    200grams or 7 ounces

    heroin is:15grams

It doesnt fit to movie "Troubles In Paradise",may be in past it was different?

For people, who did not see the movie: young fella is facing gallows for resin, which had been dropped into dustbin by somebody else.

Half pound wouldnt end up in dustbin? To much money?

And it was all about stolen bicycle, not drugs. But gallows was very real and very realistic.

  11. "...

Plus was not 18grams...but18,172grams that is to say 18 kgs not really a dose for personal usewhistling.gif..."

OK Mister Worldwide.... you know it all.

No I dont, but I am bright enough to recognise that a sovereign state, particularly one with a democratically-elected government, has the right to decide what punishment is appropriate for a given crime. For those who feel strongly about this particular case, its clear that you need to boycott Malaysia from any future travel plans, and that's 100% fine with me.

Mister Worldwide ... you know it all? I do not think so.You seem to have Malaysian law in great esteem?

    Could you tell us:

What is the weed amount which would qualify offender to face hangman in Malaysia?

I will give you a hint - it makes few posts here, including one in quotation above - without merit.

Another hint:in Malysia everything they are calling "dadah"(all drugs, narcotics, stimulants)

    - and: - "dadah=death"

  12. that's kinda crazy, not even crack or heroine... just cannabis, something grown natural. Way too harsh.

If you follow this story to the source: New Strait Times - you will find, that there were many more incidents of the same sort in the same place.

On the enclosed picture - you will see victim who is just sad;her guards look obviously - devastated,I wander - who is happy running this killing machine?

And one was lucky one - he claimed mix up of identical suitcases and it worked! What if it did not work?and mix-up had really happened?

Anybody remembers movie - "Troubles In Paradise"?same area - Kedah,Penang...

  13. I pulled 20 years out of thin air on the basis that many Westerners are given insanely long sentences for trafficking offences in Thailand. If you were a 7 year-old child forced to survive without your mother, would '1-5 years' seem like a fair sentence anyway ? This wasn't simple possession - she was trafficking drugs - game over.

She had to be bloody desperate to do what she had done:18 kilos - it is bulky thing - no way to conceal it in any way, just full luggage!? -

may be she was fan of that old movie - Deer Hunter?Russian roulette....

Weed is also very cheap, small investment, only life of this poor soul was at stake - this is how bastards are doing this biz: waste young life for small money.

  14. - she stuffed up in the wrong country, simple as that, but how much better off would her family be if she was sentenced to 20 or so years in a Thai jail ?

one post up I had written:1-5 years, max 15yrs;why you do you write - 20 years? Cannabis in Thailand is classified as No5 maximum sentence is 15 yrs,

    heroin is No1.

I know case when sentence was 5 years for 500kgs(half a ton);she had 18kgs - could you calculate her sentence in Thailand in the same proportion?,I think no more then 2 yrs.

In Malaysia everything is No.1 and may be she did not know that or she did not want to know.

    As I said:judicial murder...

  15. Hard drive is of course must, but not enough. It can fail or you may lose it.

    Memory cards are cheap nowadays and very small,smaller then hard drive in fact;

so when your card is full - buy new one,old one keep for future.Keep them in another place, then hard drive.

    And...

popular email provider "yahoo" bought photo-sharing biz called Flicker.

Flicker allows you to keep yours photos in full resolution.

Yahoo is so nice, that 1000G or 1T(Tera) of space is - FREE!

If it is not enough - you can open another yahoo account getting 1000G more and so on...

Flicker takes videos as well.Videos are memory hungry - today any compact camera can do videos in full high resolution.

Many mobile phones can do it as well.
