  1. I have two printers an Epson multifunction CX6500 and a Canon LPB2900, both of these are connected to a D-Link DPR-1260 Print Server on Ports 9100 and 9101 respectively. My Windows XP computers connect to a Netgear DG834 Wireless ADSL router. I have no problem connecting and printing to the Epson and can scan documents. However I cannot print to the Canon. Both printers have configured okay and both printers show up on the Print Server status page. The only difference between the two configurations apart from the port No's is that the Canon shows OFF LINE. Now there is no problem with the Canon if connected directly to a USB port but when connected to the print server although the print server has recognized it, it remains in an OFF LINE condition. I have turned my firewall off but nothing has changed. I have changed ports, and leads with the Epson but still the same.

Canon advise that their printers are not supported for networking and D Link do not even reply. Can anyone help with this problem, please.

  2. Every so often I read in the Nation of some planned new infrastructure project which will make Thailand a hub for Asia, that word hub always gives me a good laugh. I believe this week it was railway hub. The airport hub has been and gone along with the Telecomms hub and I guess many other hubs. I give up trying to view any YouTube videos from about 4 p.m onwards as the whole thing slows to a crawl, some hub!

  3. Hi,

Has anybody seen the Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000 in LOS, if so where?

Thanks in advance for any help

    Paul

I asked the same question several weeks ago and nobody responded with any shop that stocked them. I have since searched Fortune Tower and Pantip plus many of the department stores and most have not even heard of this model. I am now getting mine from Amazon UK

  4. My next step is to link the Panasonic VHS cassette player into my computer via a Snazzi DVD Pro video capture card and use some sort of software to overcome the protection.

You'll probably need a macrovision remover to transfer from VHS to your recorder.

Thanks for your help I will try and source one locally and if not, hope that I can obtain it from the USA or UK. I note most of the UK ones use a scart I/P and O/P so that would pose another problem as my connections are RCA.

  5. How did you end up transfering the material in the end?

I used a Panasonic Video Cassette Recorder (Player) for my video tapes and recorded them direct to a Pioneer DVD Recorder direct to the DVD rather than the hard drive. This was very straight forward with the majority of the tapes. I have a number of tapes which the Pioneer just says cannot record so I assume that is due to some sort of protection. My next step is to link the Panasonic VHS cassette player into my computer via a Snazzi DVD Pro video capture card and use some sort of software to overcome the protection.

  6. It’s been some time since I started converting my tapes and most of them have converted successfully. I now have a stack of pre-recorded tapes which I will be binning shortly. However several of my tapes will not allow my DVD recorder to record them as I guess they are copy protected. As I have no wish to pay again for something I have already paid for is there any way around this.

  7. I have several and talk to several in the states with them.

Logitech is the only brand worth purchasing. I primarily use a Logitech Pro 9000, but a Pro 5000 will get the job done and is about 60% of the price. Other Logitechs will also work...

Good Luck. Skype is great and it's free!

Could you let me know where you got your Logitech Pro 9000 webcam please?

  8. Hi,

I have had one for over a year, saved a 1000Bht in Pantip Plaza compared to Siam Paragon. Last week did big download - it added some new stuff. Bit of fun you can wear a crown whilst chating and other craze animations.

I was in Pantip on Saturday and could not find the Pro 9000 anywhere and nobody had heard of the model. The latest model they had was the Pro 5000 and the QuickCam® Ultra Vision. I would certainly like to know where you found yours. I could not find it in any of the department stores nor at Fortune Tower so any info would be greatly appreciated.

  9. My UK passport is full, so I plan to replace it next week at the UK embassy in Bangkok.

I will then return to London in December for Christmas, where I will apply for a new Non-Imm B visa at the Thai embassy in London (with new passport) before returning to Bangkok in January to start a new job.

Do I have to transfer my current visa (valid until Aug 2008 with work permit) to the new passport?

What would happen if I showed up at Suvarnabhumi with both old and new passports.. can I just show the visa in the old passport to get an exit stamp in the new passport when I leave Thailand?

    Thanks for any help.

I was in the same position and just a little more information on the above reply, you will need a copy of the old passport with the visa stamp and the arrival card, a copy of the new passport and then pick up a form at the immigration office which you fill in and in my case at Suan Pluh they then dealt with it at the LOST PASSPORT counter which I believe is No 5.

  10. This is my experience of attending Suan Pluh Bangkok to get my first extension to my Non O-A visa which was issued to me in London. I arrived at Suan Pluh Immigration Offices around 10 a.m. on Thursday morning and was given my ticket which put 16 others ahead of me in the queue. In fact several of those slots were not taken but it still took 90 minutes before my number turned up. Once I was at the desk the whole thing took 10 minutes to complete and I had my extension visa stamped. Then I went to the multiple entry visa counter and there was no queue there so that took another couple of minutes for them to give me a multiple entry visa.

For the Non O-A visa I completed form TM7 1 photo and 1900 baht fee. I obtained two letters from the Bangkok bank. One to show that I had transferred more than 800K from a UK bank and the other giving the balance. Both letters involved a wait of no more than 10 minutes all you need is the bank book and your passport. They charged me 200 baht for the transfer letter and 100 baht for the balance letter. I did try and order the letters several days in advance but they told me no need as they would give me them on the day I wanted them and they are set up for just that with standard letters ready to be filled in.

In addition to form TM7 they require a copy of your passport, the previous visa stamp and your arrival card. There are several shops opposite Suan Pluh office which seem to know the regulations and if you give them your passport or bank book they know exactly what has to be copied without you saying a word. I had not made a copy of my Bangkok bank book but the lady who was dealing with my application sent me across the road where they copied the front page of my bank book followed by the page with the money transfer and the transactions from that date. I was back at the desk within a couple of minutes by which time she had finished putting her stamp on my documents. I was also given one other form while I was at the desk which required me to fill in my name address and sign. I was then told to take my forms across to her supervisor who gave the final approval and advised me to get an entry visa if I wanted to go outside Thailand which I intended doing anyway.

The multiple entry visa was obtained at another counter using form TM8 one photo and fee 3800 baht.

I have obtained all my forms from this site in Word format and filled in all my details so they are now ready for next years application.

One snag I hit as I obtained a new passport about a month ago. When I went to report for my 90 days I took both passports but she would not process my 90 day form TM47 until I had transferred my visa stamps into the new passport. Once again you need a copy of your passport, the arrival card and the previous visa stamp. They also give you another form to fill in and then you get a ticket for the “LOST PASSPORT” counter for some reason. They do not charge any fee for that service. It took about 10 or 15 minutes so it was all done very efficiently.

I would like to thank some of the members on this forum for the advice that helped me a great deal and also for the Word format forms provide on this forum especially TM47 which I use on a regular basis for my 90 day reporting and forms TM7 and TM8.

I hope this information may prove useful to others.

  11. I just ordered Dell Vostro 1400 at Commart and now I'm eagerly waiting for it to arrive at my doorsteps. :o

Anyone has ordered Dell in Bangkok? They told me they'll deliver within 7 to 10 days.

Normally, they deliver on time or late or earlier? What if I'm not at home what they come?

I hope you don't experience the service I received from Dell. I bought a desktop from them less than 2 years ago and now I want to fit a media card reader. I contacted Dell but they say these are no longer manufactured. I pointed out that these units appear on most of their current models and fit into a standard computer bay but they have not replied despite repeated requests. I bought my Dell from Dell Malaysia but now they have a Thai office but neither office will reply to my emails. I was going to buy another Dell early next year but I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole now. I think I will build my own.

If you send emails to Dell Thailand you get an immediate acknowledgment from the person who deals with their corporate sales who forwards your emails to another person asking them to contact you but who never does.

I also tried to contact Dell USA but they are not interested.

Now I make do with a USB connected media card reader.

  12. What was the basis your Non-O was issued, Marraige, family etc ?

I obtained my first Non O-A retirement visa in London in combination with a multiple entry visa. The last occasion I used my multiple entry was last November which then gave me 1 year from that date. I now wish to renew or is it extend my retirement visa in Bangkok and again at the same time apply for a multiple entry visa so that I can make the occasional trip back to UK and visit other courties in Asia.

During my time in Thailand I have complied with the 90 reporting rule and I intend showing evidence of my retirement income when applying for my extension.

  13. Next month I will be renewing my Non O-A Visa. I seem to recall that some of these forms had been converted to Word format allowing the details to be filled in prior to printing. I know that TM47 is available in Word but is the form to renew my Non-Immigrant Visa Non O-A available. Also when I submit this application can I also apply for the multiple entry visa and if so what form is required for that?

  14. I recently had a video card go bad (nVidia 7800 Go) in my Dell E1705 laptop. I ordered a new card (7900GTX) from the US but this replacement had a busted connector and needed to be returned. I have spent loads of money shipping parts to and fro and I'm getting a bit tired, and poorer, from the whole process... Please resist the urge to suggest that I should have bought the Dell care package, i've already beat myself up enough about this. :o

I'm trying to get an idea of what my options are at this point. I was looking forward to a vid card upgrade but at this point i don't care what it is, I just want my laptop to be usable. A local shop had the dead card working to the point that everything seemed to be ok, they were playing a few 3d games and all was looking good. He wanted to keep the laptop 1 more day for some burn-in and I agreed it was a good idea. The following day it was dying again, now the display has a severe green cast over everything and it refuses to run at 1920x1200 anymore (according to them, i didn't test that).

Are there Dell parts available someplace closer? I might try ordering again if it's from someplace in the region. It's getting harder to justify Fed-Exing more parts here and paying absurd customs fees, etc. Especially after the last outcome.

I have had more than one person tell me that sending the laptop to Dell in Malaysia for repair would be ridiculously expensive because it is out of warranty. Buying directly from Dell is typically overpriced as well...

Also, is there any shops better qualified at something more specialized like video card repair? It seemed to be fine for a bit, i'd hate to give up too soon on the current card.

    [/rambling]

I hope you have better luck than me. I contacted Dell Thailand for a media card reader to fit into my Dell desktop. These are fitted as standard on most new computers. After being given the run around I was finally informed they no longer manufacture the item even though these units fit into a standard computer bay. My desktop is less than 2 year old and I pointed out that these units appear on all new computers they sell but thus far I have had no response. All Dell units came from the Malaysia depot until recently when they seem to have opened an office in Thailand. My advice would be to contact the Malaysian service centre as you will not get much help from the local office.

  15. Many thanks I will set it up this week so they have plenty of notice.

If your bank is a small branch out in the nowhere, you may do this as a dry run, just to check that they know what you want and need.

But the actual letter to immigration should be made on the same day or the day before you actually go to immigration.

    Regards Thedi

Thanks for that I was planning to ask them to prepare my letter for the 1st November and I will attend the Immigration Bureau in Bangkok on the 2nd.

  16. I will be doing the renewal for my non immigrant O-A visa at the beginning of next month and I am going to obtain a letter from The Bangkok Bank

    1. To confirm the transfer of my 800K from the UK which was done in August to comply with the three months

    2. To confirm the balance as of the end of October. (Which will be in excess of the 800K at the time I am issued with the letter)

Does anyone have a specimen letter to this effect which they have used so that I can show it to the Bangkok Bank or do you think they will know what is required?

I just asked them for a letter for immigration...no problems. Also take the bank book with you.

Many thanks I will set it up this week so they have plenty of notice.
