  1. I ordered a sandwich at au bon pain on Thonglor recently, took my drink and went to sit down until they call my number for my sandwich (they normally bring it to the table to be honest). So i start reading my paper, after 10 minutes I look and see people coming in after me already sitting and eating. I went to the counter and the supervisor was there, I asked about my sandwich and they had no even started to make it, as this was not the first time this has happened I asked her to train her staff better and to take more care when receiving orders. I sat down again and waited for my sandwich. to cut a long story short when she brought my sandwich she also refunded me my money. i intended to give this back as I was leaving. As I finished my sanfwich a cake also appeared as an apology.

Well as I was leaving I gave the money back as I had eaten the sandwich so not really fair to keep the money, they said sorry again and said they hope I will remain a customer (I eat lunch there often) and as long as they don't mess up again I will eat there as they made an effort to put it right.

I had the same problem in Silom so I just got the refund and not the sandwich. I complained by email and they gave me a credit note which I did not use but I was impressed that they took the trouble to apologise and hoped that I would visit them again which I still do and enjoy very good service. I just wish they would not run out of Oatmeal cookies so often as I enjoy one with my coffee.

  2. The Desire's 1ghz processor is just as fast if not quicker than the iphone and it costs less too 21,900 if brought here.

and nope dont know about HTC's with real and virtual keyboards (Desire's virtual one works well though especially in landscape mode)

I would have to disagree with that. I had my Desire for a month and could not get used to the virtual keyboard the reason for me getting rid of it in the end. I currently use an Omnia with a virtual keyboard but that uses a pen making it much easier to pick out the characters. I also had a play with a friends iPhone and I found that virtual keyboard much better to use. I did try some pens one of which was an HTC brand but it wasnt that good.

You can't use pens on the Desire's panel as it is capacitive touch screen. It needs the moisture from the finger to react. You should have tried Swype (available from Market), that makes typing much easier. Since you already gave up I guess that doesn't matter now to you, but perhaps others can use the hint.

That looks interesting, when I brought this problem up with HTC they never mentioned it.

  4. Can the HTC Desire get True 3G? This phone sounds tempting. I have a iPhone at the moment but thinking of a change and not really tempted by the iPhone 4.

No it can only use their Edge and Wi-Fi service.

Where have you got that from? The HTC Desire is 3G enabled, why shouldn't it be able to use True (and other) 3G ?

True, as soon as the lady saw my HTC Desire she told me that the 3G frequency was not compatible. I understand that it works okay with AIS.

  5. I'm talking about Microsoft Office, not Open Office.

yes that's the problem...and there are better free alternatives...

then name me one that has the same features INCLUDING Outlook.

///edit: Just realize that the edit of my previous post wasn't saved for some reason...ok, here we go again:

Agree for Word and Excel, OpenOffice is a good replacement. Unfortunately, OpenOffice has nothing on offer that would replace Outlook and has those three functionalities:

    1) syncing with my mobile phone

    2) syncing through several computers (done with syncing.net, works like a charm!)

    3) integrated calendar, small scale CRM etc...

Thunderbird does NOT have it, The Bat does NOT have it, and any other e-mail client I know of does NOT have it.

I agree I use Open Office but I have seen nothing to replace Outlook which is what I need for the same reasons you state.

  6. Isetan reopens

BANGKOK: -- Isetan Department Store Thrusday reopened its 27,000squaremetre store at CentralWorld after being closed for 82 days, due to the recent political protests that culminated in the arson attacks of May 19.

Company president Takeshi Ito said the unrest was the worst experience during the store's 18 years in Thailand.

The store was not damaged by the fire, which destroyed much of CentralWorld.

I would recommend the Jim Thompson restaurant on the ground floor inside the Isetan store and especially their mango tango. Also I believe on the second floor again within Isetan the Paris Miki opticians great service for glasses, very helpful and after sales service also great.

  7. Another all Thais are stupid thread.

I started work as a shop assistant when I was 14.

In those days there were no calculators or tills that worked out the change for you. It was either work out the sums on paper or in the head.

Since the introduction of calculators, adding machines and computers, people have become lazy and now totally rely on the micro chip instead or having to use the brain for arithmetic and spelling.

It`s the same the world over, not only unique to Thailand. Technology has turned people into blockheads as they consider that pushing a button or key is easier than thinking.

Totally agree, many years ago I bought four first class stamps in a London post office when they were 25p each and the poor girl had to use a calculator.

  8. This was the configuration I was given by HTC.

  9. Hm, I don't know, I bought an Android because of it's native integration with Gmail etc, no interest in Outlook. Suggest for that a Winphone might be a better option.

    There's a therad about copy/paste in Android here: http://androidcommunity.com/forums/f41/how...opy-paste-4579/

The Outlook thing is resolved although as I mentioned access to that and the disk seemed a backward step given that most phones allow access on connection especially to the disk which is available to Windows Explorer or whatever it is these days as soon as you connect via USB. I would have thought copy and paste would have been a must but from what I have read so far it is not available on the HTC Desire. However thanks for your reply and another link which looks very useful.

  10. So far I am not that impressed with this phone. First the access to the disk and being able to sync with Microsoft Outlook were not that straightforward. Both require going into the phone configuration and selecting access to the sync or disk. With my Omnia both are available as soon as you connect via USB. Now I am searching for a Copy and Paste function and thus far I cannot see how it is done. Anyone who has one of these and knows how I achieve that please?

  11. Just a quick update. I asked a Thai friend of mine to phone them to check stock and figure out the payment options. They said they have plenty in stock and they were prepared to accept a Cash On Delivery term. I ordered mine at 10:30am this morning and by 12:30 i had it in my hands.

They offer a 1 year in house warranty (Thai script based Warrenty card) and it appears to be the UK import - as its the UK based plug adapter.

Overall, very impressed with this company so far

Just to add I have just come back from Fortune Tower and three shops there with good stocks of HTC phones gave next month, next week and no idea when they would be in. I think I will try a COD as you have suggested.

  12. Try the Ritz in Jomtien Complex for dinner. Manhattan's is a rip off. The chicken wings are so good at the Great American Rib that it's worth going there just for them.

Is that the one run by the elderly Brit? Quite good if I remember.

There are one or two others inside the Jomtien complex worth checking out..swiss or german

There are so many elderly Brits about its difficult to tell. Yes, it is run by a local Brit restauranteur well known in the gay expat community, but you don't have to be gay to eat there.

just to set the record straight about John the proprietor of Cafe Ritz in the Jomtien complex, he may be well known in the gay community and its true that he does have many gay patrons but he is certainly not gay himself.

he is in fact a happily married man whose beautiful wife works with him in the restaurant.

i have known him for many years, he is a great character and he deserves every success in the world with this enterprise.

i thoroughly recommend Cafe Ritz to all, wether you be straight, gay, bi or third gender.

I heartily agree whenever I visit Pattaya I make several visits to the Ritz and haven't been let down once, excellent food.

  13. It is my understanding that the HIGH SPEED Express train is only accessible at Maksasan. There is a new local train that runs from Phayathai BTS, on the same tracks, to the airport and will take considerably longer than the Express. Ironically, it appears that it will NOT stop at Makasan, so no transfers are possible to the Express.

I'm sure Crossy can correct this if it not correct, but I remember reading that the regular line will only take 15 minutes more than the express. I'm not sure if they will have luggage checking on the "local" line, but I'm not sure that I'd want to check my luggage anyway.

As to how close the airport lines are to the other lines, I heard mention that Phayathai BTS station may make a walkway to the airport line so that you don't have to go down to street level. I've also heard that the MRT is planning a walking tunnel to the Makasan station, similar to the one at Hua Lamphong. Whether either of these will actually happen, I don't know.

My only worry, is that if I want to get back out to Pinklao from the airport, I'll have to get a taxi from Phyathai. If it is anywhere near as difficult as getting a taxi from Ratchtewi station, it's going to be a pain in the ass.

Yup, Express from airport to MAK is about 15 mins, City is about 30.

Access to BTS at Phayathai is via a concourse level walkway, last time I was out that way the span across the road was missing, maybe someone can confirm completion.

As to the access from MAK to the MRT absolutely zip is there (supposed to be elevated), it was on the initial drawings but seems to have fallen off the Good For Constructions :)

As of today the pedestrian span across the road is still missing so no connection between the airport link and the BTS unless you go down to street level. A few weeks ago I did see someone being hoisted up and using a measuring tape on the concrete beams.

  14. A very important item in above post - the branch bank(s) at the new location appear to be authorized to issue acceptable letters of account balance for those who bank elsewhere.

Yes I also noticed this statement.

May I ask the OP what kind of account he has, regular savings or fixed deposit?

My KBank insists that I can get the letter for my fixed deposit acct only at the branch it was opened and then it takes one day (the manager signs the letters only after public banking hours).

    opalhort

On my passbook it says Fixed deposit account, its the one with the orange cover that the Bangkok Bank issues. Every month I transfer my monthly allowance from this book into an ATM account but I only present my Fixed deposit account as evidence as this is where my annual transfer from the UK is deposted. You are quite right my account is based at Silom Road and there was no problem getting a letter from the branch where the immigration bureau is located.
