  1. the impact on the thai girl front

Once they go black - they wont go back :D

That the impact you worried about, mojo? :o

No thats not what i meant. And for the rocord regarding sensitivity......currently the world is going crazy with all this PC stuff, people cant even express the views with out being labelled racist!

If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck - <deleted> :D

  2. How does one "fit" to fix the timekeeping? By flipping a switch in the clock, or actually fitting a part to compensate for the freqency change?

Also, is it correct to assume that a 60 Hz clock will run slower with a 50 Hz power source? (1/6 times slower?)

OK, firstly yes, if it is a mains sync'd clock it will run at 5/6 speed on 50Hz.

The only way to answer your questions it to have the lid off and take a photo of the works, try to get the part numbers of any devices in the photo. We'll should be able to tell if it's quartz or mains sync from the photos.

Depending upon the chips used and where the clock was made (China maybe) there could be a wire link that you can fit / cut to change from 60 to 50Hz. If you're really lucky the link will be marked as such :D

Time to get out the camera and screwdriver :D

A much easier solution would be to learn how to chant a few magic spells that freeze time - namely "mai pen rai", "rot tit" and "kothod krap". :o

  3. I find the discussions on what the "average" Thai salary pretty much worthless. The range is so wide the average doesn't really mean anything. I sit here in my office in Bangkok and look at the 6 Thai that report directly to me and their salaries range from 45k a month all the way up to 125k. These are university educated, mid to late 30's people with 5-15 years experience working in the Engineering and Construction business. These ranges seem to be pretty normal for this business. So much for the 12k a month average

    TH

Duh, that's what it's an average. Get it? You can talk about the gap between the rich and poor with other figures or go ahead and talk about the average of a certain industry. Of course there will be a wide range.

A recent survey ranked Thailand 2nd among 61 countries, with the widest salary scale gap between senior executives and clerical employees. See the second last paragraph in the article below.

  4. We don't know the facts, but one would have thought the driver of the students bus (probably on a daily after school run) would have been aware of the approx times of trains.

Thai trains don't exactly run like clockwork. :o

A sad loss of so many young lives. :D

SRT is in urgent need of an overhaul. But before any modernization project can take off, the parties have to settle on sharing the spoils. So for the time being, they can stick to promoting trips to see bridges in Kanchanaburi and viewing dead sunflowers in Lopburi.

  5. Tourists' valuables stolen

    Bangkok Post

    Published: 14/01/2009 at 12:00 AM

Thirty foreign and Thai tourists returning from Krabi were robbed by their bus crew and abandoned in Bangkok's Phasi Charoen district yesterday, police said.

After stealing their cash and valuables the Sri Sak Co bus crew abandoned the victims and the bus in Soi Charan Sanitwong 13 around 6am.

One of the victims told police they were on their way back from Krabi to Khao San road when the bus driver decided to stop at a petrol station on Buddhamonthon Sai 2 road.

  6. National police chief reinstated

BANGKOK: -- Caretaker prime minister Chaovarat Chanweerakul Sunday signed an order to reinstate Pol Gen Phatcharawat Wongsuwan as the police commissioner-general.

The order cancelled an earlier order dated November 28 that seconded Phatcharawat to an inactive post at the PM's Office.

Phatcharawat is a brother of Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwan.

    -- The Nation 2008-12-22

From some of the previous replies, it appears necessary to point out to the some of the clueless that the outgoing government's caretaker PM Chaovarat signed the order before leaving office and prior to new PM Abhisit assuming office.

You could also have noted that Former Caretaker Prime Minister Chaovarat left office and became the Interior Minister...

Wouldn't that be giving out one clue too many? :o
