  1. Will the Indians, Arabs and Chinese (IAC) start retiring here in large numbers? Will the IACs buy houses and populate East Pattaya? Or will they just visit but not become resident expats? Will they spend more or less than the western expats and tourists? If the IACs do settle here, how will they integrate with the Thais? Interesting changes ahead for sure...

Don't know about the Arabs, but the Chinese and Indians have been here long before palefaces argued their first barfine. And they will be here long after we have left (read "kicked out" as in the other thread). :)

  2. I see these convoys of coaches quite often. They are often being driven like racing cars with little regard for their own or anyone elses safety.

Is there any point at all in offering condolences in this forum? I very much doubt that anyone involved in the accident reads this.

Does it really matter that they're not read, people are voicing their thoughts thats all.

No, it does not "matter" in the sense that it does not cause any harm to anybody. It does, however, convey an impression that the person who purports to extend condolences which will never reach their target is perhaps ignorant concerning his or her own language. Nothing unusual about that for TV, though.

In another fred, someone offered condolences to fans of David Carradine. I can't express how much it means to be consoled in my moment of grief by someone on an anonymous forum. :)

  3. The Phetkasem, too? Oh crap... :)

I need to get out to Nakorn Pathom next week. Anybody have a smart alternative?

If you don't want to fly, you could take a train from Hualamphong Railway Station in Bang Lamphu, Bangkok to one of the Northeastern provinces like Khorat or Ubon, and then take a bus to Nakhon Phanom. I don't know which would be the better place to board a bus to Nakhon Phanom though, since most information that I can find is for routes originating in Bangkok.

    Best of luck to you.

Yes, but you could also do it the easy way without the Isaan sightseeing detour; and take a 1 hour boat ride from Bangkok to Nakorn Pathom. :D

  4. This is what Thais want:

farang either send tubs of money here by mail, no strings attached - as many already do - sending money to bar girls galore (...and to Pussy Galore?).

Or, rich farang show up, stay at sequestered resorts, see a wat, get a mud facial. Spend tubs of money, leave big tips, then leave soon. Bye bye, sawadee crap, come back when you have lots more money. Kittung tee rak.

    Absolutely spot-on. :)

  5. You can open a UK offshore account on the internet, with a Thai address. I did a few years ago. No problems. :)

Thanks Dominator. Can you advise me how to do this as I'm green at all of this? Can you give me a 'dummy's guide' to setting that up?

I will come clean with you all... the reason I don't want to use UK financial institutes is because I left some debt in the UK (15k) about 5 years ago. I am concerned that using a UK bank will make me pop up on the radar; would that enable the banks I owe money to to track me down and recover their funds?

    Thanks again for the help,

    EZ.

Hmm, let's see now, you will have the money transferred to my account and give me a hefy commission, if I first pay the overdue debt on your behalf, no? God bless me and all that.

    :D
