Hi All, the engine is the 6cyl 4.0litre 2004 model.
Took the Jeep in to an alternative shop, who said all the spark plugs had failed, replaced them, an unlikely event.
They again plugged in an ODB unit, indicated a faulty map sensor, so my question is, is this an original device which came fitted to the engine, or a device added when the LPG was installed.
The map sensor it does in some ways point to a faulty sensor as both the LPG and Petrol are affected.
Any replies would be gratefully received.

Hi All, is there a workshop preferably in Pattaya, but can travel to Chonburi or Bangkok, who can hook up the engine to a diagnostic machine, the problem being when I drive over rough ground, the engine cuts out or will not rev, having to drive with one foot on the brake the other on the accelerator when driving down hill. Since arriving back in Pattaya have tried to create the same problem, but with no avail, this is the second time this has happened, the check engine light also comes on. The Jeep is able to run on petrol or LPG, the same problems with either fuel, the problem will sometimes rectify itself, then re appear.
Thank you in anticipation,
Tom

Hi Mac, I am using a GT-Rider The Laos Guide Map, which has a lot of information, but the route I mentioned earlier is not clear. I enjoyed my drive Pak Beng over to Houei Xai, then the ferry to Chiang Khong, 1000 Baht weekdays, up to 1500 Baht weekends and holidays, be a lot better when the bridge is open. My GF's family live in Chiang Saen
Thanks for the info.

Hi All,In the past I have driven from Houei Xai to Pak Beng via Pha Oudom to Phu Luang then the last 5 kilometers to Pak Beng, in my jeep, a very pleasant drive over mountains and thru beautiful country side and villages along an adequate dirt road. Is it possible to drive from Luang Prabang to Nang Lew onto Huai Noun then onto Pakbeng Via Hongsa.
Does any one sell a good gps Map of laos, the one I have now is as much use as an ashtray on a motor bike, the map bought in Pattaya.
Thanking you in anticipation Tom

Thank you for all the people who replied to my previous posting.
I think I would have a better idea what the problems might be, having an understanding of the workings of the mechanics and electronics.
This car only does 4km liter, apparently set up for racing.
Spark plugs sooted up, black sooty exhaust, compressions ok 150 psi cold, car starts first time no problem, very quick off the mark, good acceleration.
It is a long time ago now since I rebuilt engines, then setting the timing up with a strobe tach dwell meter.
On a modern day car
What governs the amount of fuel sent to the injectors,
What governs the ignition timing,
The turbo, is this governed by the same mechanism or separately.

Hi All, sorry for not replying earlier, I have been advised that this car is set up for racing, hence the high fuel consuption, how do I find out how to rectify this as the car is to be used as an every day car,is there a shop in or around Pattaya who can do this or will I need to travel farther afield, any info or help would be gratefully received.

Hi I driven into Laos on a couple of occasions, without any problems, the cost of insurance is only a few hundred Baht, there is usually an insurance shop on the Laos side which are not open on Sundays, depending on which crossing you choose they may do the paper work for you, on coming back into Thailand at Chiang Khong, the boat crossing will cost you 1000 Baht weekdays, week ends and holidays 1500/2000 Baht. As above you will need a car passport.

My recently purchased car Mazda, is fitted with the Nissan 2 litre turbo charged engine, the fuel consuption is around 4 kilometers per litre, the exhaust pipe is a single pipe branching off into 2 at the rear of the car, no silencer is fitted, Mr. Somchai says this is the reason for the high fuel consumtion, as there does not appear to be any fuel leaks, but a strong smell of petrol persists, the exhaust is sooty black.
Any ideas to as what the problems might be.
Thank you in anticipation.

I have recently purchased the above car and are experiencing problems engaging gears on starting up the car, to engage gears I have to turn off the engine, engage gear then start, when cranking over the engine the clutch does not fully disengage, but after driving for a number of kilometers and the engine hot there is then no trouble engaging gears or with the gearbox.
The paddle shift system does not operate, maybe disconected, or no longer in use due to the engine change ? .
Will it be the original gearbox since the engine has been changed ?.
If the clutch needs to be replaced, can this be done without removel of the engine ?.
Any constructive help or information regarding this car as it now does not have the rotary engine, would be gratefully received.

Is there an alterative to buying the lpg valve saver fluid which is added to the reservoir tank in the engine bay, which does seem expensive at around 1200 baht per liter, can you use molly slip or two stroke engine oil or some other instead.
Thank you in anticipation.

Is it possible and practicle to have car wheels chromed and if so, where can this be done, my location is Pattaya, Tyre sizes, I understand the measurement 255- 75-15 , but what of the measurements 31/10.50 15LT or 30 / 9.5 - R15, and that the latter sizes will increase fuel consumption and possibly make for a harder ride, My jeep is not used off road exept on the rare occasion.

I own a 1998 Jeep Wrangler TJ soft top the road tax is 1050 Baht per year, registered as a 2010 in the registration book imported from Japan 2010, having now bought a 2005 Wrangler also imported from Japan I notice the the road tax per year is 10.000 Baht, if I were to remove the hard top, take out the back seat and only use the soft top would it be possible to have the taxation class changed, it is currently registered in Phuket, the intention is to register locally in Chonburi, or other locality, what would you suggest.
Thank you in anticipation.

I am considering buying an MX5 would consider an older 1.8 circa 1995 or a later 2.0, what are the pro's and con's of these two models, on the 1.8 would you consider ABS to be a must or not as this seems to be an optional extra, any information would be gratefully received in anticipation.

Hi maybe the answer could be to purchase a tuk tuk 660cc 3 cylinder Dihatsu from Mukdahan, not to costly, I own one here in Pattaya, have carried in exess of a ton in the back many times, good mpg, insurance 600 baht per year, no road tax, maintenance very cheap.
The only issues are, no number plate, class 3 insurance not available, in 4 years have only ever been stopped twice for no number 200 Baht each time, have driven to Sattahip, Chonburi and Bang Na Bangkok on many occasions, this machine has paid for itself many times over.

Jeep Wrangler problems
in Thailand Motor Discussion
Posted
HI All, forgot to mention that the mechanic said that as the map sensor is faulty, the engine does not know whether to run on lpg or petrol which is causing the problems, although the jeep does seem to be running better at the moment, it does some times still cut out at low revs, so I am having to drive with a foot on the brake and one on the throttle to keep going, but having said that, before have driven for hundreds of kilometers before the fault arises mainly having driven over a pothole, then to right itself maybe a few hundred later.
