  1. Hi All, I need to replace the soft top on my wrangler TJ, would I be best importing this from The States, if so, what would the likely import taxes be based on, or would it be possible to have one made or bought here in LOS, the zippers would need to be replaced as well as some of the plastic trim which holds the top to the body work. The finished job would need to look good and work well.

    Thank you in anticipation.

    Tom

  2. The hot weather causes the plates in the battery to Sulphate, the lower the charge in the battery the quicker the sulphation, when charging your battery with a trickle charger you charge it at the ampare rate of the battery, ie 150 ampare hour at 150 a 75 ampare hour at 75, this helps to desulphate enhancing battery life.

  3. Hi, I have a samlor, this was purchased from what would appear to be the same dealer.

I was not able to register this, but it was explained to me that if I had a business and could provide enough evidence then it may be possible, this information from the land transport office near Ekamai.

I also have a license for a trike and have been stopped in Pattaya twice in 4 years been fined 200 Baht on each occasion for not having a number plate, my Thai friend informed me that once they know who I am, have see I have a licence they will no longer bother me, this has been the case. Polar Bor insurance cost's around 550 Baht.

I have driven to Bang Na to collect a gearbox, Chonburi to collect an engine and box as well as many times to Satahip never a problem.

  4. Hi All, transfered the registration from Nakhon Pathom to Chonburi, received the new number plate to day, collect the new book in 1 week. I feel much happier now this has been done, the book shows the jeep as having 6 seats, not 2, the clerk said this is no problem, every thing ok.

Any further comment would be welcome.

Thank you for all of your input on this matter.

    Regards Tom

  5. In December 2010 I purchased from a dealer in Bangkok a jeep recently imported second hand from Japan, it was registered in my name at Land Transport Office Nakhon Pathom, it was previously owned by his wife before being transfered into my name, it has green digits and numerels on the license plate the same as a 2 door pick up, he now says I will need to transfer to a number plate with black insignia, cost 300000 Baht or I could have trouble with the police.

I have paid the road tax 2 times without any problems being 1050 Baht per year.

What is the issues with this, what is happening,

Does this money need to be paid,

Am I liable to pay this,

    Should he have to pay,

Can I register this in jeep in Chonburi,

What would happen if I later tried to sell the jeep.

Any information would be gratefully received.

  6. Thank you for the information received.

I took my Jeep upto Pattaya land transport office, they provided me with a car passport and decal's for 80 Baht even though It is registerd in Bangkok.

I had help at Vientiane immigration filling out all the paperwork and getting the insurance, the guy charged me 400 Baht the third party insurance, 14 day cover cost me 300 Baht. As you drive away from the Friendship bridge a new LPG gas station is all but finished so it would seem that it may be available in other Laos locations before long. We had no bother from the police at all.

On driving from Vang Vieng to Phonsavan to visit the plain of Jars employing the Sat Nav and map the route via Ban Naluang appeared the best bet, the sat nav giving us regular updates, the road was recently resurfaced at most, eventually it directed us up an unpaved road, after asking of the locals who said we could not go this way due to water, so we carried on along the main road which would bring us out at Phonsovan, this road was gated at a check point, we were told we could not go any further due to water, I assume a dam, so we made our way back to Vang Vieng then headed towards Luang Prabang onto Phonsovan, the road here being offten unpaved as well as being full of potholes.

I managed to buy another map which showes our original route, restricted area not always passable so around 300 kilometers was unduly travelled. Fuel regular is around 11200 kip per litre, 10000 kip about 40 Baht. We crossed over into Thailand at Hauy Xai the ferry cost 1500 Baht, normally 1000 more due to Song Cran Holiday, offical fees about 200Baht our Jeep was not inspected either end.

The GPS Laos map was bought in Tuk Com on a sd card for 700 Baht, the detail on the map is minimul most towns not being shown.

On chatting to An American Laos resident he informed me that you can now drive from Huay Xai to Pak Beng via Pha Oudom, the road being suitable for all car's.

  7. Please can any one help solve my on going jeep wrangler ecu problem, since having lpg installed, the first problem I encountered was, failing to switch from petrol to lpg, the installer fixed this in a matter of a couple of minutes, next i found it was neccessary to rev the engine to switch from petrol to lpg. Then after a 500km drive after turning off the engine the jeep on starting ran for 15 seconds then stopped, ran for another 10 secondsthen stopped, ran for a further 5 seconds then stopped and would not start at all, so was trailered to an lpg installer in phitsanulok, who started the Jeep within minutes, but would not show me the problem, after another 1500kms having returned to Pattaya, same problem engine ran for a few short bursts then failed to start, it was then started with an alternative ecu fitted. An ecu keyed to my chassis vin number was sent to me from the States, this started the jeep with the lpg circuit disconnected, after connecting the lpg circuit the jeep failed to start, this ecu was replaced under warranty, the jeep was taken back to the installer of the lpg, a short circuit or loose wire was repaired, the jeep ran ok for 70 kilometers, then same problem after turning off the engine on starting it ran for a few short bursts then stopped, would not start. Later an alternative ecu was fitted after being taken back to the installer of the lpg and an electricians workshop, the jeep ran ok, i returned the ecu to the states under warranty, thay say the unit is ok working fine, I must have a security or some other issue with my Jeep, this is now in the post being returned to me, i do not want to have the same problems over again.

It has been suggested that I switch back to petrol before turning off the engine.

    Is it an electrical problem,

    is it an lpg problem,

is it a problem with the ecu,

I could try running the jeep around with the lpg disconnected?

  8. My jeep wrangler ecu problem has not been resolved, I was sent a reconditioned unit from the states, i disconected the battery, conected the ecu and also disconnected the lpg, the car would start and run for 15 seconds at a time only and stop i reconected the lpg, now the engine deos not start at all with or without the lpg connected even after disconnecting the battery. Can any one be of any help or know of some one who can.

It is a reconditioned unit configured to my vin/ chassis number, there tel number is 954 983 4948. They would repair mine for 125 dollars + 80 dollars postage, they will send the unit back with your correct milage. They stock most makes of ecu.

  10. My jeep wrangler TJ 4.0 ltre has recently been converted to run on lpg injection or petrol, automatic switching.A problem arose after about 250 kms when it would not switch from petrol to lpg, took it back to the installer who recified the problem in minutes, app 500 kms later the jeep would not start I thought because it was now switched to lpg, starts on petrol, had it taken to an lpg installer explained the problem he had the problem sorted in minutes, but would not show me the problem. My jeep now will not start, had the original installer back to look at the problem, he says it is the jeep's ecu, no signal to the injectors, removed the ecu, part number 286AC, fitted an alternative ,not the same part number, jeep started, saying this is not suitable as it will not operate the air con & other functions, need to have the original repaired. I have taken my original ecu to be repaired, they say the ecu is not likely to be the problem as they are not like for like, not a proper comparison, they will run a scan but perlimonary checks appear to be ok. Also To get the system to change from petrol to lpg I often had to rev the engine. My gut feeling is it is a lpg system problem. How can I discover the problem & rectify the situation.Help Ian
