IMO the best Thai restaurant in Bangkok for Value for Money Vs Quality of food and authenticity is Ton Krueng on the corner of Thonglor Soi 13.
It's not particularly touristy it just serves good quality Thai food.
Thanks fellows...you've all been very helpful

Would appreciate a recommendation for a good Thai restaurant to take UK visitor. Price about THB600 plus per head excluding drinks. Not too formal.
I live Thonglor area so not too familar with places around soi 6.
Thanks

just returned from having my fourth extension of stay for one year as residency under application 2006) stamp in my passport and was also thinking the same thing ......splashed across the front page of the local newspapers "foreigners support Thailand as Thai Govmnt has just approved 2,000 new applications for Permanent Residency" or am I dreaming.
At least I get to get a visa estension for one year without any hassle. Took 5 mins this morning.

Have just added the following comment to the Nation's article concerning the need for Thailand to run a PR campaign - and which directly relates to this catgeory.
PR = Public Relations.
PR = Permanent Residence.
Agree that a proper and thoughtful PR campaign is needed - especially after the disgraceful international reporting. IMHO, the best folks to put the correct face to the Thailand situation are the farangs that have chosen to live here - and not the politicians. One obvious element could be for the Government to quickly process the PR applications for 2006, 2007 and 2008 - with attendant and widespread publicity.Thoughts? And more importantly (if the idea has merit) how to advocate it!
Just come back from having my 4th residency under application one year extension stamped in my passport and was thinking the same thing. Splashed across the front pages of the local newsapapers "Foreign support for Thailand as Thai Governemnet has just approved 1,000 applications for permanent residency".(or may be more since 2006 and maybe pigs may even fly. I suppose the good newsi s that whilst still under consideration I get a one year visa extension automatically without hassle. Took 5 minutes this morning as o queues.
Nice twitch. Are you for real?
Yes - indeed I am. I am a 2008 PR applicant and am therefore also interested in looking for avenues to unblock the current impasse (no dount the Joint Foreign Chambers of Commerce in Thailand will be looking for opportunities to support Thailand and am thinking this idea be a possible inclusion in any JFCCT submission to Government).

trying to find out also but surely it will be on BBC radio Nottingham as well.

Anybody know the best way to find a Thai National Full Time Car Driver to work from Sukhumvit Soi 39 area Bangkok. Are there any Internet Sites for example.
thanks for help.

Could somebody please give me the address and phone number of the Permanent Residency Office at CW. Have to get my passport stamped again with the P.R. under consideration stamp (2006).
I am sure the address is in the Forum somewhere but can't find it.
Cheers for the help.

Stopped over for three days on way to Uk and enjoyed the experience. Stayed in hotel overlooking the Creak and did the City Tour including the old town and spice markets etc.
Local people very helpful as was Emirates who travelled with. The A380 was light years ahead of any thing I have flown. That's my view any way.

People ask for the own problems, keeping 60k in there hotel room is stupid..have people not heard of a bank?
He probably started telling them personal information, dropping 2k drink bills by buying these random girls drinks..then they just think lets drug this sucker and rob him, lesson learnt but another fool will do the same thing day after day....
Agree that the fellow was a little naive to pick two girls up in a bar and then head off to Nana with them but in fairness you do expect things in your hotel safe to be secure particularly in a 4 or 5 star hotel. Most people would put their passport, tickets etc in the safe. I guess the drink and the buzz of the evening got the better of him. They say beer helps ugly people have sex and as the evening gathered pace he would thing all around him was roses.

Any news for new PR being issued ? I applied since 2006 and seems a lot of folks are waiting just like me .
Really if they would just get on with it ..... I need to know my future prospects in this country.
Been here for 17 years and if at the end of the day they decide not to issue PR anymore then I am wasting my time in this country.
No news of any description but can't think they are going to stop PR as they have been taking new applications every year since 2006.
Nothing we can do I am afraid except continue the long wait. Maybe they will issue 2006 to 2008 in one go.

If you were married in the UK you can send a copy of your marriage, wifes birth certificate or passport to Pensions Office in Newcstle and you wife will qualify for all benefits in the same way if she was a British National.
Providing your wife doesn't work or if she does is below the current threashhold of minimum earnings your state pension could also be increased.
Not sure if the same conditions apply if you were married under Thai Law.
I find the best way to get replies from the UK is to email the appropriate department who respond quickly.
As far as NI contributions are concerned I was advised to stop paying after the full qualifying period and now receive my State pension so no problem there.

Depends how much you want to bring. I omported all my UK home furniture etc througl a local UK forwarding agent in who came to the house and packed everything up including furniture which all went into a container and was sent by see and delivered door to door about 6 weeks later. No duty on personal effect. Suprised how easy it was.

Seems that's the case. Wonder what happens to all the non refundable fees at the time the application is made.
Seem to remember it was THB7,000 with application time 200 persons maximum for each country each year .
since 2006.
Maybe 400 applications per year.
Small money I suppose.
What ever will be will be

My residency application which was started in December 2005 and accepted in May 2006 after final interview is still in review and all applications according to my phone call today to Residency Office waiting for signature by Minister of Interior. I am told that no decision will be made until 2010 so the time line continues to be extended again.
Anybody else got this same info.

grtaylor, I am happy to hear that you received your approval letter (and congratulations!) despite the fact that it isn't the best timing for you. However, it begs the question whether other 2006 applicants have received their approval letters? Surely you can't be the only one? When I phoned the PR section they categorically said that no 2006/2007 applications have been signed by the Minister of Interior.
If anybody else has received their approval letter please speak up.
The plot seems to thicken......
I have not received notification either for 2006 but my wife who works for The Government checked and was told that they were still waiting to be signed off by The Minister of Interior. Thjey have however sent out the letters to the applicants that failed so not sure what GR Taylor has received as he is in Philippines
.
Suppose in our case then NO news is GOOD news butwho really knows.
The letter I have is signed by the Director General of Immigration. It was sent to my office address as registered at the time I applied. It is not a letter of rejection. . . . . .

Every time I open my Yahoo account I am requested to sign in even if I tick the box to stay signed in for 2 weeks. Sometimes when if I am signed in and reply to an email I am asked to sign in again. Its a bit frustrating.
Any help gatefully appreciated. I saw a comment on this problem that I may have two browsers..and the browser that is not being used sometimes sends cookies to overide Internet Exporer which I use.
How do I find if there is a second inactive browser if this is the problem and remove it
Sorry but not computer illiterate and not sure what cookies are any way.
