  5. Flat roof have two major disadvantages although they have sleek looks. Flats roofs are extremely difficult to make water tight and also difficult to insulate to keep heat out.

This is our house and we chose not to build with a flat roof in the end although that was our first thaughts.

Hi, what is the building to the right? Is that an outbuilding of yours? or a neighbour? Just noticed the flat roof :)

  6. Hi All

I'm looking to build a house in the near future, has anyone built anything modern, minimalist or contemporary here? Maybe with an Asian twist! I know they are broad descriptions but I would be interested to see any examples that any of you have had built out here. I refuse to build a standard moobahn type house, they all look the same and whilst they are practical I would like to do something different. After all its not everyday you build a house. If you can share any resources ( websites, chiang mai based architects and builders ) I would be most grateful. It would be great to see some photo's and get an idea of various build costs. I quite like houses with a flat roof, however I've been told to steer clear of those, anyone have any experience with that type of build?

    Thanks in advance - I hope :)

  8. The German Microbrewery is still open every evening but mostly deserted.

The beer tastes flat and is wildly overpriced.

They recently enclosed the open air area with walls, which mean if you want to sit outside, you have to sit on the concrete benches in the open. They just put up some small umbrellas.

Oh, and as far as I know, Oktoberfest is finished this year on the 19th.

I think the future of that place looks dismal.

I don't know if I would agree that it's "wildly overpriced". Especially when you consider how much somewhere like Number 1 bar charge for 500ml of draft Erdinger (roughly 190B), or Neighborhood on Nimman charge for draft Hoegaarden (200B+). If I remember correctly German Microbrewery charge around 200B for a litre of most of the beers. Saying that, if you go to the right booze shop, you can get two bottles of Erdinger for 250B.

I don't go there regularly, but I've never found the beer to be flat, quite the opposite.

It is a strange venue though. Very dark and dingy inside. It's a shame they have enclosed that outside area, that was the nicest part of it!

I had them provide a keg of Dunkel and a keg of Weisen for my wedding reception. Many people complimented the beer, but had never been to the brewery before, and these were foreigners who had been living in CM for years, or Thais who had been here all their lives.

It would be a shame if it closed down. But yeah, they need to do something to re-invent themselves. If I were them I'd be targetting the Payap university students, with it being so close.

I heard there used to be a crazy golf place over in that estate. Anyone experience it?

The golf place closed years ago, its now a BB gun place I believe.. The other end of that area is very busy with a load of bars ( packed out last night ) and the walking street market on Friday and Saturday is worth a visit. The German brewery place has seen its best days I think, I'm sure it still fills up occasionally with office party's and wot not but I think in general there are too many other new places nearby for students ( that want cheap drinks ) to check out. Personally I'm not too keen on walking street markets these days so its a good quiet place to drink a beer whilst the family wanders around the market!

  9. Hi - I understood a birth certificate was adequate for domestic flights as name will match with mother's ID card.

you don't say which airline, this is from Air Asia

Infants and children must be accompanied by a parent or a guardian. Guests are required to carry proof of the infant/childs birth certificate when travelling. If proof of age cannot be provided on request, airport staff may refuse boarding.

cool thanks for the link, I'm looking at Thai airways, will nip down there and double check / book, I'm sure they will have the same policy.

  10. We are going to Bangkok on Friday and have just realised that our daughter hasn't got a Thai ID card or Thai or UK passport. Does anyone know whether or not a 5 year old can fly without any formal ID? Of course I will check with the airline to make sure but if anyone has any experience and can let me know quickly then that would be great.

We were going to drive ( and might still ) but what with all the rain and flooding up and down the country I thought flying might be less stressful. Has anyone driven down in the last few days? How was the journey? Is there any problems with flooding?

    Thanks in advance...

  11. OP.

I thought the wife and I would try locanda at doi saket last night. Drove the 15 kms at 6pm to find it closed.

Driving 15 km just for have a meal.

    No offense intended.

Yes. We are fortunate enough to own a vehicle and a sense of reckless adventure. :s

I live in San Sai, and we fancied an Italian meal. The nearest places are Arcobalenos, a pizza place on the 108, and Locanda, which we had never tried.

I fail to see the point of your post. In your world, do you only eat within a certain distance of your home?

I fail to see the point of his post as well. Maybe he doesn't enjoy a family outing?

it's all about the drive out there apparently!

Just needs to add a few extra lyrics about wasting time and never being open! :)

.....from personal experience its best to call first, and then be told they are not open! One day I'll be able to try this place, it's become a personal mission of mine, 4th time lucky I'm hoping. Just not right now, below from the website!

"Good day everybody! OUR LOCANDA WILL STAY CLOSED UNTIL MID-AUGUST, AS WE ARE IN A CULINARY TRIP TO ITALY AND TICINO!! SEE YOU IN AUGUST,THEN, TO CHECK OUT WHAT WE HAVE LEARNED FROM THE MASTERS!!!! BUON APPETITO AND Best Regards Roberto and Darunee Villa-Conti "

  12. It has never been any different, or for those that wish to argue about it, it`s always been the same.

Do any of you remember those advertised flight special offers or promotions back in our own counties?

For example: Special deal, must book this month only, London return to New York, only £180. And then discover that the only way anyone is going to obtain a return flight from London to New York for £180, if they are a seventh son of a seventh son, need to be over 75 years old and have their grandfather accompany them during the flight, has to be snowing on a day when there is a solar eclipse and all the planets of our solar systems are in perfect alignment. In other words, nobody for one reason or another ever gets that flight for the advertised price.

Most of you old hands out there should know this by now..

    Feckity feckity <deleted> <deleted> <deleted>!

  13. Sawasdee Khrup, TV CM Friends,

As long as we're on the topic of buffets, kindly allow us to clink-the-chains of buffets-past, and ask whatever happened to the supposed re-opening of the Nang Ngual down in the Nong Hoi area, on Thanon Kaw Klang ?

For 89 baht, once-upon-a-time, that used be our favorite (both when we had taste buds, and after we lost them).

    best, ~o:37;

I think its opposite Miguels in the Plaza 89 - I only went once at the old location, are you talking about the Japanese and seafood buffet place. If so pretty sure it just moved to Plaza 89 or whatever its called ! :)

  14. The musicians arrested about 10 days ago for performing in a bar without a work permit. What happened to them?

Thats a good one NancyL & I would like to hear more also

    G

update on the miracle whip situation would be nice and where is gotlost?

  15. Would really appreciate, after your having a look, a report on what facilities and equipment they have in terms of cam-driven machines, free-weights, treadmills, sauna, showers, etc. How clean the place was, whether they have lockers, are things like treadmills "pro quality" etc.

cam-driven machines? if you mean pulley, then yes a fair range of them,

good range of free weights, smith machines along with a good crossover, although not huge weights

treadmills - about 6 under 80 kilo user weighted units, about 3 over 80 under 100 kilo user weighted one, old machines that require the machine to warm up longer than the user

    lockers, bring your own lock

    no showers

    no sauna

    no classes

    no noise allowed

    no anything else..

certainly would not use the word pro in relation to the place

get better prices at other gyms with much more equipment and classes, fitness thailand seems the best all round for free weights, machine weights, good sturdy runners, classes, showers, professionalism blah blah blah

NB time limits imposed on all cardio equipment, limited to 20 minutes ABSOLUTE MAX including machine and user warm up, no arguing, arguing not allowed, if you dont like it, this is not the gym for you...

This 20 minutes is per user per day per piece of cardio equipment... so you can not even do a double workout in a day.

come clean! it was the mankini that got you banned.. :)

  17. A friend of mine just showed me his chest and leg covered in psoriasis. I had no idea it could affect people that badly, it looks really really painful. I want to get him sorted out asap, where is the best place for him to see a specialist please? Any advice / help appreciated.

    Kind regards CM2

  18. Hello

Can anyone recommend a specialist site where I can download torrents specifically for Rugby. Are there any that specialise in sports as opposed to films, tv, music etc ?

Also, although my interned connection isn't great is it possible to stream these games? Again is there a special site for that ?

    Any help appreciated.

    Kind regards
